Salmi 107

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Lodate il Signore perché è buono, poiché eterna è la sua misericordia.	1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good, his faithful love lasts for ever.
2 Lo dicano i riscattati del Signore, i riscattati dalla stretta dell'angustia,	2 So let them say whom Yahweh redeemed, whom he redeemed from the power of their enemies,
3 i radunati dai vari paesi: dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mezzogiorno.	3 bringing them back from foreign lands, from east and west, north and south.
4 Quanti vagavano nel deserto, nella steppa, non trovavano il cammino verso una città abitata;	4 They were wandering in the desert, in the wastelands, could find no way to an inhabited city;
5 affamati e assetati, languiva in essi la loro anima.	5 they were hungry and thirsty, their life was ebbing away.
6 Gridarono al Signore nella loro angustia, ed egli li liberò dalle loro strettezze:	6 They cried out to Yahweh in their distress, he rescued them from their plight,
7 li fece camminare nella via giusta in modo che giungessero ad una città abitata.	7 he set them on the road, straight to an inhabited city.
8 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a vantaggio degli uomini;	8 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
9 poiché saziò l'anima assetata e l'anima affamata ricolmò di beni.	9 He has fed the hungry to their hearts' content, filled the starving with good things.
10 Quanti sedevano in tenebre e ombra di morte, prigionieri dell'afflizione e del ferro,	10 Sojourners in gloom and shadow dark as death, fettered in misery and chains,
11 per essersi ribellati ai precetti di Dio e aver disprezzato i consigli dell'Altissimo.	11 for defying the orders of Yahweh, for scorning the plan of the Most High-
12 Il loro cuore era abbattuto nella pena, giacevano oppressi e nessuno li aiutava.	12 he subdued their spirit by hard labour; if they fel there was no one to help.
13 Gridarono al Signore nella loro angustia ed egli li salvò dalle loro strettezze:	13 They cried out to Yahweh in their distress, he rescued them from their plight,
14 li trasse dalle tenebre e ombra di morte, frantumando le loro catene.	14 he brought them out from gloom and shadow dark as death, and shattered their chains.
15 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a vantaggio degli uomini;	15 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
16 poiché infranse le porte di bronzo, mandò in frantumi le sbarre di ferro.	16 He broke open gates of bronze and smashed iron bars.
17 Erano infermi per la loro condotta malvagia ed erano oppressi per le loro colpe;	17 Fools for their rebellious ways, wretched because of their sins,
18 qualunque nutrimento aborriva la loro anima e già toccavano le soglie della morte.	18 finding all food repugnant, brought close to the gates of death-
19 Gridarono al Signore nella loro angustia, ed egli li salvò dalle loro strettezze:	19 they cried out to Yahweh in their distress; he rescued them from their plight,
20 inviò la sua parola e li guarì, li strappò dalla fossa già pronta per loro.	20 he sent out his word and cured them, and rescued their life from the abyss.
21 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a vantaggio degli uomini.	21 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
22 Offrano a lui sacrifici di lode e annunzino con giubilo le sue azioni.	22 Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices, and recount with shouts of joy what he has done!
23 Quelli che scendono in mare sulle navi, facendo commercio sulle grandi acque,	23 Voyagers on the sea in ships, plying their trade on the great ocean,
24 videro le opere del Signore, i suoi prodigi nella profondità del mare.	24 have seen the works of Yahweh, his wonders in the deep.
25 Disse e fece soffiare un vento di tempesta sollevando in alto le onde marine:	25 By his word he raised a storm-wind, lashing up towering waves.
26 salivano fino al cielo, sprofondavano fino nell'abisso; languiva la loro anima nell'affanno;	26 Up to the sky then down to the depths! Their stomachs were turned to water;
27 vacillavano, barcollavano come ubriachi, era svanita ogni loro perizia.	27 they staggered and reeled like drunkards, and al their skill went under.
28 Gridarono al Signore nella loro angustia e li fece uscire dalle loro strettezze:	28 They cried out to Yahweh in their distress, he rescued them from their plight,
29 egli ridusse la tempesta in calma, e s'acquetarono le onde del mare.	29 he reduced the storm to a calm, and al the waters subsided,
30 Al loro placarsi furono pieni di gioia, ed egli li guidò al porto che bramavano.	30 and he brought them, overjoyed at the stillness, to the port where they were bound.
31 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a vantaggio degli uomini;	31 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
32 lo esaltino nell'assemblea del popolo e lo lodino nel consesso degli anziani.	32 Let them extol him in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the council of elders.
33 Tramutò i fiumi in deserto e le sorgenti d'acqua in terra arida;	33 He has turned rivers into desert, bubbling springs into arid ground,
34 la terra ferace in salsedine, a causa della malizia dei suoi abitanti.	34 fertile country into salt-flats, because the people living there were evil.
35 Trasformò poi il deserto in lago, la terra arida in sorgenti di acqua.	35 But he has turned desert into stretches of water, arid ground into bubbling springs,
36 Là fece dimorare quanti erano affamati ed essi eressero una città da abitare.	36 and has given the hungry a home, where they have built themselves a city.
37 Seminarono campi e piantarono vigne e raccolsero in abbondanza i loro frutti.	37 There they sow fields and plant vines, and reap a harvest of their produce.
38 Li benedisse e si moltiplicarono assai e non fece diminuire il loro bestiame.	38 He blesses them and their numbers increase, he keeps their cattle at full strength.
39 Ma poi furono ridotti a pochi e tribolati, per oppressioni, sventure e malanni.	39 Their numbers had fal en, they had grown weak, under pressure of disaster and hardship;
40 Chi effonde il disprezzo sui potenti li fa vagare in un deserto impervio.	40 he covered princes in contempt, left them to wander in trackless wastes.
41 Ma sollevò il misero dalla sua afflizione e rese le famiglie numerose come un gregge.	41 But the needy he raises from their misery, makes their families as numerous as sheep.
42 Vedano i giusti e si rallegrino, ma ogni malvagità chiuda la sua bocca.	42 At the sight the honest rejoice, and the wicked have nothing to say.
43 Chi è saggio da osservare queste cose, da comprendere le misericordie del Signore?	43 Who is wise? Such a one should take this to heart, and come to understand Yahweh's faithful love.
