1 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Va' dal faraone e digli: "Così ha detto il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei: manda via il mio popolo perché mi serva:	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this:Let my people go and worship me.
2 che, se tu rifiuti di mandarlo via e li trattieni ancora,	2 If you refuse to let them go and detain them any longer,
3 ecco, la mano del Signore sarà sul bestiame che tu possiedi in campagna, su cavalli, asini, cammelli, sulle mandrie e il gregge: una peste molto pesante.	3 look, the hand of Yahweh wil strike your livestock in the fields, horses, donkeys, camels, oxen andflocks with a deadly plague.
4 Il Signore farà una distinzione tra il bestiame che possiede Israele e il bestiame degli Egiziani: niente morirà di quanto appartiene ai figli d'Israele".	4 Yahweh wil discriminate between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt: nothing of whatbelongs to the Israelites will die.
5 Il Signore fissò il tempo, dicendo: "Domani il Signore farà questo nel paese".	5 Yahweh has fixed the time. Tomorrow, he has said, Yahweh will do this in the country." '
6 E il Signore fece questo il giorno seguente: tutto il bestiame posseduto dagli Egiziani morì, mentre delle bestie dei figli d'Israele non ne morì una.	6 Next day Yahweh did this: al the Egyptians' livestock died, but nothing of the livestock owned by theIsraelites died.
7 Il faraone mandò a vedere: ed ecco, del bestiame d'Israele non era morto neppure un capo. Ma il cuore del faraone si indurì e non mandò via il popolo.	7 Pharaoh had enquiries made, and found that of the livestock owned by the Israelites not a single beasthad died. But Pharaoh was obstinate and did not let the people go.
8 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: "Prendete per voi a piene mani della fuliggine di fornace, e Mosè la getti verso il cielo agli occhi del faraone:	8 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and before Pharaoh's eyeslet Moses throw it in the air.
9 diventerà polvere su tutto il paese d'Egitto, e produrrà sugli uomini e sugli animali delle ulcere con eruzioni di pustole in tutto il paese d'Egitto".	9 It will turn into fine dust over the whole of Egypt and produce boils breaking into sores on man andbeast throughout the whole of Egypt.'
10 Presero dunque della fuliggine di fornace, si tennero davanti al faraone: Mosè la gettò verso il cielo e diventò ulcera pustolosa con eruzione su uomini e animali.	10 So they took soot from the kiln and stood in front of Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and onman and beast it brought out boils breaking into sores.
11 I maghi non poterono stare davanti al faraone per le ulcere: perché c'erano ulcere sui maghi e su tutti gli Egiziani.	11 And the magicians could not compete with Moses in the matter of the boils, for the magicians werecovered with boils like al the other Egyptians.
12 Ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone e non li ascoltò, come il Signore aveva detto a Mosè.	12 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretold to Moses, he did not listen to them.
13 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Alzati di buon mattino e mettiti davanti al faraone e digli: "Così ha detto il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei: manda via il mio popolo perché mi serva.	13 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh. Say to him, "Yahweh,God of the Hebrews, says this: Let my people go and worship me.
14 Poiché questa volta io manderò tutti i miei flagelli contro di te, i tuoi servi, il tuo popolo, perché tu sappia che non c'è un altro come me in tutta la terra:	14 For this time I am going to inflict al my plagues on you, on your officials and on your subjects, so thatyou wil know that there is no one like me in the whole world.
15 che, se ti avessi steso la mia mano e avessi colpito te e il tuo popolo con la peste, saresti stato cancellato dalla terra;	15 Had I stretched out my hand to strike you and your subjects with pestilence, you would have beenswept from the earth.
16 e invece, proprio per questo, ti ho tenuto in piedi, per mostrarti la mia forza e perché si parli del mio nome su tutta la terra.	16 But I have let you survive for this reason: to display my power to you and to have my name talked ofthroughout the world.
17 E ancora tu ti ergi contro il mio popolo per non mandarlo via:	17 Since you take a high hand with my people, refusing to let them go,
18 ecco, domani a quest'ora farò cadere della grandine molto pesante, quale non ci fu mai in Egitto dal giorno della sua fondazione fino ad ora.	18 very wel , at about this time tomorrow, I shal cause so severe a hail to fal as was never known inEgypt from the day of its foundation until now.
19 E adesso manda al sicuro il bestiame che possiedi e tutto ciò che hai nella campagna: su tutti gli uomini e le bestie che si troveranno nella campagna e non saranno stati raccolti in casa, cadrà la grandine e moriranno".	19 So now send word to have your livestock and everything else you own in the fields put under cover.On man or beast, al that happen to be in the fields and are not brought indoors, the hail will fal and they wildie." '
20 Chi tra i servi del faraone temeva la parola del Signore fece scampare in gran fretta nelle case i propri servi e il proprio bestiame;	20 Those of Pharaoh's officials who respected what Yahweh said, brought their slaves and livestockindoors,
21 chi non diede retta alla parola del Signore lasciò nella campagna i propri servi e il proprio bestiame.	21 but those who did not take to heart what Yahweh said left their slaves and livestock in the fields.
22 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Stendi la tua mano verso il cielo: ci sarà grandine in tutto il paese d'Egitto, sugli uomini, sugli animali e su tutta l'erba della campagna nel paese d'Egitto".	22 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven so that it hails throughout thewhole of Egypt, on man and beast and on everything growing anywhere in Egypt.'
23 Mosè stese il suo bastone verso il cielo e il Signore diede tuoni e grandine, con fuoco che guizzò sulla terra, e il Signore fece cadere grandine sul paese d'Egitto.	23 Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and Yahweh thundered and rained down hail. Lightningstruck the earth and Yahweh rained down hail on Egypt.
24 Vi furono grandine e lampi tra la grandine molto pesante, quale non c'era stata in tutto il paese d'Egitto da quando era diventato nazione.	24 And so there was hail, and lightning accompanied the hail, very severe, such as had never beenknown anywhere in Egypt since it first became a nation.

27 Il faraone mandò a chiamare Mosè ed Aronne e disse loro: "Questa volta ho peccato: il Signore è giusto, io e il mio popolo siamo colpevoli.	27 Pharaoh then sent for Moses and Aaron and said, 'This time, I have sinned. Yahweh is in the right; Iand my subjects are in the wrong.
28 Pregate il Signore, ci sono stati troppi tuoni di Dio e grandine! Vi manderò via e non resterete più".	28 Pray to Yahweh, for we cannot bear any more of this thunder and hail. I promise to let you go. Youneed stay no longer.'
29 Gli disse Mosè: "Quando uscirò dalla città, stenderò la mia mano verso il Signore: i tuoni cesseranno e non ci sarà più grandine, perché sappia che del Signore è la terra.	29 Moses said to him, 'The moment I leave the city I shal stretch out my hands to Yahweh. The thunderwil stop, and there wil be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to Yahweh.
30 Ma io so che tu e i tuoi servi non temerete ancora il Signore Dio".	30 But as for you and your officials, I know very wel that you stil have no respect for Yahweh God.'
31 Il lino e l'orzo furono colpiti perché l'orzo aveva la spiga e il lino era in fiore;	31 The flax and the barley were ruined, since the barley was in the ear and the flax in bud,
32 il grano e la spelta non furono colpiti perché sono tardivi.	32 but the wheat and spelt were not destroyed, being late crops.
33 Mosè uscì dal faraone e dalla città, stese le sue palme verso il Signore, e cessarono i tuoni e la grandine e la pioggia non cadde più sulla terra.	33 Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He stretched out his hands to Yahweh and the thunderand hail ceased and the rain stopped pouring down on the earth.
34 Il faraone vide che era cessata la pioggia, la grandine e i tuoni, e continuò a peccare: indurì il suo cuore, lui e i suoi servi.	34 When Pharaoh saw that rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he relapsed into sin,
35 Il cuore del faraone si indurì e non mandò via i figli d'Israele, come il Signore aveva detto per mezzo di Mosè.	35 and he and his officials became obstinate again. Pharaoh was stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretoldthrough Moses, refused to let the Israelites go.
