1 Dall'Egitto Abram risalì verso il Negheb con la moglie e tutto il suo avere. Lot era con lui.	1 From Egypt Abram went up to the Negeb with his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot accompanied him.
2 Abram era molto ricco di bestiame, di argento e di oro.	2 Now Abram was very rich in livestock, silver, and gold.
3 Dal Negheb ritornò a tappe fino a Betel, fino al luogo dov'era già prima la sua tenda, tra Betel e Ai,	3 From the Negeb he traveled by stages toward Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had formerly stood,
4 al luogo dell'altare che egli aveva eretto prima; ivi Abram invocò il nome del Signore.	4 the site where he had first built the altar; and there he invoked the LORD by name.
5 Anche Lot, che viaggiava con Abram, possedeva greggi, armenti e attendamenti,	5 Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,
6 e il territorio non bastava ad una loro abitazione comune, perché avevano beni troppo grandi per poter abitare insieme.	6 so that the land could not support them if they stayed together; their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.
7 Nacque perciò una lite tra i pastori del bestiame di Abram e i pastori del bestiame di Lot, mentre i Cananei e i Perizziti abitavano nel paese.	7 There were quarrels between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot's. (At this time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were occupying the land.)
8 Abram disse allora a Lot: "Deh, non ci sia discordia tra me e te, tra i miei pastori e i tuoi, perché noi siamo fratelli!	8 So Abram said to Lot: "Let there be no strife between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are kinsmen.
9 Non sta forse davanti a te tutto il paese? Sepàrati da me. Se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò verso destra, ma se vai a destra, me ne andrò verso sinistra".	9 Is not the whole land at your disposal? Please separate from me. If you prefer the left, I will go to the right; if you prefer the right, I will go to the left."
10 Allora Lot alzò gli occhi ed osservò tutta la valle del Giordano, perché era tutta irrigata -- prima che il Signore distruggesse Sòdoma e Gomorra -- come il giardino del Signore, come il paese d'Egitto, fin verso Zoar.	10 Lot looked about and saw how well watered the whole Jordan Plain was as far as Zoar, like the LORD'S own garden, or like Egypt. (This was before the LORD had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)
11 E Lot scelse per sé tutta la valle del Giordano e trasportò le tende verso oriente. Così si separarono l'uno dall'altro.	11 Lot, therefore, chose for himself the whole Jordan Plain and set out eastward. Thus they separated from each other;
12 Abram risiedette nel paese di Canaan e Lot risiedette nelle città della valle e acquistò il diritto di pascolare vicino a Sòdoma,	12 Abram stayed in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the Plain, pitching his tents near Sodom.
13 nonostante che la gente di Sòdoma fosse molto cattiva e peccatrice.	13 Now the inhabitants of Sodom were very wicked in the sins they committed against the LORD.
14 Il Signore disse ad Abram, dopo che Lot si fu separato da lui: "Alza gli occhi, e dal luogo dove stai, spingi lo sguardo verso settentrione e mezzogiorno, verso oriente ed occidente.	14 After Lot had left, the LORD said to Abram: "Look about you, and from where you are, gaze to the north and south, east and west;
15 Tutto il paese che tu vedi, io lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza, per sempre.	15 all the land that you see I will give to you and your descendants forever.
16 Renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra; se qualcuno può contare il pulviscolo della terra, anche i tuoi discendenti potrà contare!	16 I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth; if anyone could count the dust of the earth, your descendants too might be counted.
17 Alzati, percorri il paese in lungo e in largo, perché io lo darò a te!".	17 Set forth and walk about in the land, through its length and breadth, for to you I will give it."
18 Poi Abram acquistò il diritto di pascolare e di andarsi a stabilire alla Quercia di Mamre, che è ad Ebron, e vi costruì un altare al Signore.	18 Abram moved his tents and went on to settle near the terebinth of Mamre, which is at Hebron. There he built an altar to the LORD.
