BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 - Disse frattanto Dio a Giacobbe: «Muoviti, e sali a Betel; ivi fermati, e fa' un altare a Dio che ti apparve quando fuggivi Esaù tuo fratello».	1 In the meantime God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother.
2 Giacobbe dunque, convocata tutta la famiglia, disse: «Gettate via gli dèi stranieri che sono fra voi, mondatevi, e cambiatevi le vesti.	2 And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments.
3 Levatevi, e saliremo a Betel per farvi un altare a Dio, che m'esaudì al tempo della mia tribolazione, e mi accompagnò nel mio viaggio».	3 Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, that we may make there an altar to God: who heard me in the day of my affliction, and accompanied me in my journey.
4 Gli consegnarono dunque tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano, e gli orecchini che avevano agli orecchi; ed egli li sotterrò sotto il terebinto che è al di là della città di Sichem.	4 So they gave him all the strange gods they had, and the earrings which were in their ears: and he buried them under the turpentine tree, that is behind the city of Sichem.
5 Partiti che furono, Dio riempì di terrore tutte le circostanti città, che non osarono inseguire quelli che s'allontanavano.	5 And when they were departed, the terror of God fell upon all the cities round about, and they durst not pursue after them as they went away.
6 Venne dunque Giacobbe in Luza, chiamata "Betel", nella terra di Canaan, e tutta la sua gente era con lui.	6 And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, surnamed Bethel: he and all the people that were with him.
7 Edificò un altare, e chiamò quel luogo col nome di "Casa di Dio", perchè ivi Dio gli era apparso quando fuggiva il fratello suo.	7 And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.
8 In quel tempo morì Debora nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al disotto di Betel, a piè d'una quercia, e quel luogo fu chiamato "Querce del pianto".	8 At the same time Debora the nurse of Rebecca died, and was buried at the foot of Bethel under an oak: and the name of that place was called, The oak of weeping.
9 Apparve Dio un'altra volta a Giacobbe dopo che fu tornato dalla Mesopotamia di Siria, e lo benedisse,	9 And God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him,
10 dicendogli: «Non ti chiamerai più Giacobbe, ma il tuo nome sarà Israele». E lo chiamò Israele,	10 Saying: Thou shalt not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And he called him Israel.
11 e gli disse: «Io sono Iddio onnipotente; cresci e moltiplicati; genti e popoli e nazioni da te usciranno; dei re saranno tuoi discendenti;	11 And said to him: I am God Almighty, increase thou and be multiplied. Nations and peoples of nations shall be from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.
12 la terra che detti ad Abramo e ad Isacco, la darò a te ed alla tua discendenza dopo di te».	12 And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee.
13 Poi disparve da lui.	13 And he departed from him.
14 Giacobbe dunque nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato Iddio alzò un monumento di pietra, versandovi sopra delle libazioni, spargendovi olio,	14 But he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him: pouring drink offerings upon it, and pouring oil thereon:
15 e chiamando quel luogo col nome di "Betel".	15 And calling the name of that place Bethel.
16 Partito di lì, giunse in primavera nella terra che conduce ad Efrata. Ivi Rachele, essendo di parto,	16 And going forth from thence, he came in the springtime to the land which leadeth to Ephrata: wherein when Rachel was in travail,
17 per la difficoltà del parto cominciò a correr pericolo. La levatrice le diceva: «Non temere, che avrai anche questo figliuolo».	17 By reason of her hard labor she began to be in danger, and the midwife said to her: Fear not, for thou shalt have this son also.
18 Stando però essa per morire dal dolore, così vicina a morte, chiamò il figlio suo Benoni, cioè Figlio del mio dolore; ma il padre lo chiamò Beniamino, cioè Figlio della destra.	18 And when her soul was departing for pain, and death was now at hand, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, The son of my pain: but his father called him Benjamin, that is, The son of the right hand.
19 Morì dunque Rachele, e fu sepolta sulla via che conduce ad Efrata, cioè a Betleem.	19 So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata, that is Bethlehem.
20 Giacobbe alzò un monumento sul sepolcro di lei; ed è quello chiamato anc'oggi "Il monumento di Rachele".	20 And Jacob erected a pillar over her sepulcher: this is the pillar of Rachel's monument, to this day.
21 Partitosi poi di lì, fermò le tende al di là della Torre del gregge.	21 Departing thence, he pitched his tent beyond the Flock tower.
22 Ma, mentre era per quelle parti, Ruben andò, e dormì con Bala, donna del padre suo, il quale lo venne a sapere. Eran dunque dodici i figli di Giacobbe.	22 And when he dwelt in that country, Ruben went, and slept with Bala, the concubine of his father: which he was not ignorant of. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
23 Figli di Lia: Ruben, primogenito, Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issacar e Zabulon.	23 The sons of Lia: Ruben the firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Juda, and Issachar, and Zebulon.
24 Figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.	24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25 Figli di Bala ancella di Rachele: Dan e Neftali.	25 The sons of Bala, Rachel's handmaid: Dan and Naphthali.
26 Figli di Zelfa ancella di Lia: Gad e Aser. Son questi i figli di Giacobbe, natigli in Mesopotamia di Siria.	26 The sons of Zelpha, Lia's handmaid: Gad and Aser: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.
27 Tornò in ultimo Giacobbe al padre suo Isacco in Mambre città d'Arbee, cioè Hebron, dove Abramo ed Isacco eran venuti pellegrini.	27 And he came to Isaac his father in Mambre, the city of Arbee, this is Hebron: Wherein Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28 L'età d'Isacco giunse a centottant'anni.	28 And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
29 Allora consumato dall'età morì, ed andò a riunirsi al suo popolo, vecchio, pieno di giorni, ed Esaù e Giacobbe suoi figli lo seppellirono.	29 And being spent with age he died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
