CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
For every high priest, having been taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men toward the things which pertain to God, so that he may offer gifts and sacrifices on behalf of sins;1 Διοτι πας αρχιερευς, εξ ανθρωπων λαμβανομενος, υπερ ανθρωπων καθισταται εις τα προς τον Θεον, δια να προσφερη δωρα τε και θυσιας υπερ αμαρτιων,
he is able to commiserate with those who are ignorant and who wander astray, because he himself is also encompassed by infirmity.2 δυναμενος να συμπαθη εις τους αγνοουντας και πλανωμενους, διοτι και αυτος ειναι περιενδεδυμενος ασθενειαν?
And because of this, he also must make such offerings for sins even for himself, in the same manner as for the people.3 και δια ταυτην χρεωστει, καθως περι του λαου, ουτω και περι εαυτου να προσφερη θυσιαν υπερ αμαρτιων.
Neither does anyone take up this honor himself, but rather he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.4 Και ουδεις λαμβανει την τιμην ταυτην εις εαυτον, αλλ' ο καλουμενος υπο του Θεου, καθως και ο Ααρων.
Thus, even Christ did not glorify himself, so as to become High Priest, but instead, it was God who said to him: “You are my Son. Today I have begotten you.”5 Ουτω και ο Χριστος δεν εδοξασεν εαυτον δια να γεινη αρχιερευς, αλλ' ο λαλησας προς αυτον? Υιος μου εισαι συ, εγω σημερον σε εγεννησα?
And similarly, he says in another place: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”6 καθως και αλλαχου λεγει? Συ εισαι ιερευς εις τον αιωνα κατα την ταξιν Μελχισεδεκ.
It is Christ who, in the days of his flesh, with a strong cry and tears, offered prayers and supplications to the One who was able to save him from death, and who was heard because of his reverence.7 Οστις εν ταις ημεραις της σαρκος αυτου, αφου μετα κραυγης δυνατης και δακρυων προσεφερε δεησεις και ικεσιας προς τον δυναμενον να σωζη αυτον εκ του θανατου, και εισηκουσθη δια την ευλαβειαν αυτου,
And although, certainly, he is the Son of God, he learned obedience by the things that he suffered.8 καιτοι ων Υιος, εμαθε την υπακοην αφ' οσων επαθε,
And having reached his consummation, he was made, for all who are obedient to him, the cause of eternal salvation,9 και γενομενος τελειος, κατεσταθη αιτιος σωτηριας αιωνιου εις παντας τους υπακουοντας εις αυτον,
having been called by God to be the High Priest, according to the order of Melchizedek.10 ονομασθεις υπο του Θεου αρχιερευς κατα την ταξιν Μελχισεδεκ?
Our message about him is great, and difficult to explain when speaking, because you have been made feeble when listening.11 Περι του οποιου πολλα εχομεν να ειπωμεν και δυσερμηνευτα, διοτι εγεινετε νωθροι τας ακοας.
For even though it is the time when you ought to be teachers, you are still lacking, so that you must be taught the things that are the basic elements of the Word of God, and so you have been made like those who are in need of milk, and not of solid food.12 Επειδη ενω ως προς τον καιρον επρεπε να ησθε διδασκαλοι, παλιν εχετε χρειαν του να σας διδασκη τις τα αρχικα στοιχεια των λογων του Θεου, και κατηντησατε να εχητε χρειαν γαλακτος και ουχι στερεας τροφης.
For anyone who is still feeding on milk is still unskillful in the Word of Justice; for he is like an infant.13 Διοτι πας ο μετεχων γαλακτος ειναι απειρος του λογου της δικαιοσυνης? επειδη ειναι νηπιος?
But solid food is for those who are mature, for those who, by practice, have sharpened their mind, so as to discern good from evil.14 των τελειων ομως ειναι η στερεα τροφη, οιτινες δια την εξιν εχουσι τα αισθητηρια γεγυμνασμενα εις το να διακρινωσι το καλον και το κακον.
