CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
Paul, called as an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God; and Sosthenes, a brother:1 Παυλος, προσκεκλημενος αποστολος Ιησου Χριστου δια θεληματος Θεου, και Σωσθενης ο αδελφος,
to the Church of God which is at Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints with all who are invoking the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place of theirs and of ours.2 προς την εκκλησιαν του Θεου την ουσαν εν Κορινθω, τους ηγιασμενους εν Χριστω Ιησου, τους προσκεκλημενους αγιους, μετα παντων των επικαλουμενων εν παντι τοπω το ονομα Ιησου Χριστου του Κυριου ημων, αυτων τε και ημων?
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.3 χαρις ειη υμιν και ειρηνη απο Θεου Πατρος ημων και Κυριου Ιησου Χριστου.
I give thanks to my God continuously for you because of the grace of God that has been given to you in Christ Jesus.4 Ευχαριστω παντοτε εις τον Θεον μου δια σας, δια την χαριν του Θεου την δοθεισαν εις εσας δια του Ιησου Χριστου?
By that grace, in all things, you have become wealthy in him, in every word and in all knowledge.5 οτι κατα παντα επλουτισθητε δι' αυτου, κατα παντα λογον και πασαν γνωσιν,
And so, the testimony of Christ has been strengthened in you.6 καθως η μαρτυρια του Χριστου εστηριχθη μεταξυ σας,
In this way, nothing is lacking to you in any grace, as you await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.7 ωστε δεν μενετε οπισω εις ουδεν χαρισμα, προσμενοντες την αποκαλυψιν του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου?
And he, too, will strengthen you, even until the end, without guilt, until the day of the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ.8 οστις και θελει σας στηριξει εως τελους αμεμπτους εν τη ημερα του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου.
God is faithful. Through him, you have been called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.9 Πιστος ο Θεος, δια του οποιου προσεκληθητε εις το να ησθε συγκοινωνοι του Υιου αυτου Ιησου Χριστου του Κυριου ημων.
And so, I beg you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that every one of you speak in the same way, and that there be no schisms among you. So may you become perfect, with the same mind and with the same judgment.10 Σας παρακαλω δε, αδελφοι, δια του ονοματος του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου, να λεγητε παντες το αυτο, και να μη ηναι σχισματα μεταξυ σας, αλλα να ησθε εντελως ηνωμενοι εχοντες το αυτο πνευμα και την αυτην γνωμην.
For it has been indicated to me, about you, my brothers, by those who are with Chloes, that there are contentions among you.11 Διοτι εφανερωθη εις εμε παρα των εκ της οικογενειας της Χλοης, περι υμων, αδελφοι μου, οτι ειναι εριδες μεταξυ σας?
Now I say this because each of you is saying: “Certainly, I am of Paul;” “But I am of Apollo;” “Truly, I am of Cephas;” as well as: “I am of Christ.”12 λεγω δε τουτο, διοτι εκαστος απο σας λεγει? Εγω μεν ειμαι του Παυλου, εγω δε του Απολλω, εγω δε του Κηφα, εγω δε του Χριστου.
Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?13 Διεμερισθη ο Χριστος; μηπως ο Παυλος εσταυρωθη δια σας; η εις το ονομα του Παυλου εβαπτισθητε;
I give thanks to God that I have baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius,14 Ευχαριστω εις τον Θεον οτι ουδενα απο σας εβαπτισα, ειμη Κρισπον και Γαιον,
lest anyone say that you have been baptized in my name.15 δια να μη ειπη τις οτι εις το ονομα μου εβαπτισα.
And I also baptized the household of Stephanus. Other than these, I do not recall if I baptized any others.16 Εβαπτισα δε και τον οικον του Στεφανα? εκτος τουτων δεν εξευρω εαν εβαπτισα αλλον τινα.
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize: not through the wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ become empty.17 Διοτι δεν με απεστειλεν ο Χριστος δια να βαπτιζω, αλλα δια να κηρυττω το ευαγγελιον, ουχι εν σοφια λογου, δια να μη ματαιωθη ο σταυρος του Χριστου.
For the Word of the Cross is certainly foolishness to those who are perishing. But to those who have been saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God.18 Διοτι ο λογος του σταυρου εις μεν τους απολλυμενους ειναι μωρια, εις ημας δε τους σωζομενους ειναι δυναμις Θεου.
For it has been written: “I will perish the wisdom of the wise, and I will reject the discernment of the prudent.”19 Επειδη ειναι γεγραμμενον? Θελω απολεσει την σοφιαν των σοφων, και θελω αθετησει την συνεσιν των συνετων.
Where are the wise? Where are the scribes? Where are the truth-seekers of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of this world into foolishness?20 Που ο σοφος; που ο γραμματευς; που ο συζητητης του αιωνος τουτου; δεν εμωρανεν ο Θεος την σοφιαν του κοσμου τουτου;
For the world did not know God through wisdom, and so, in the wisdom of God, it pleased God to accomplish the salvation of believers, through the foolishness of our preaching.21 Διοτι επειδη εν τη σοφια του Θεου ο κοσμος δεν εγνωρισε τον Θεον δια της σοφιας, ηυδοκησεν ο Θεος δια της μωριας του κηρυγματος να σωση τους πιστευοντας.
For the Jews ask for signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom.22 Επειδη και οι Ιουδαιοι σημειον αιτουσι και οι Ελληνες σοφιαν ζητουσιν,
But we are preaching Christ crucified. Certainly, to the Jews, this is a scandal, and to the Gentiles, this is foolishness.23 ημεις δε κηρυττομεν Χριστον εσταυρωμενον, εις μεν τους Ιουδαιους σκανδαλον, εις δε τους Ελληνας μωριαν,
But to those who have been called, Jews as well as Greeks, the Christ is the virtue of God and the wisdom of God.24 εις αυτους ομως τους προσκεκλημενους, Ιουδαιους τε και Ελληνας, Χριστον Θεου δυναμιν και Θεου σοφιαν?
For what is foolishness to God is considered wise by men, and that which is weakness to God is considered strong by men.25 διοτι το μωρον του Θεου ειναι σοφωτερον των ανθρωπων, και το ασθενες του Θεου ειναι ισχυροτερον των ανθρωπων.
So take care of your vocation, brothers. For not many are wise according to the flesh, not many are powerful, not many are noble.26 Επειδη βλεπετε την προσκλησιν σας, αδελφοι, οτι εισθε ου πολλοι σοφοι κατα σαρκα, ου πολλοι δυνατοι, ου πολλοι ευγενεις.
But God has chosen the foolish of the world, so that he may confound the wise. And God has chosen the weak of the world, so that he may confound the strong.27 Αλλα τα μωρα του κοσμου εξελεξεν ο Θεος δια να καταισχυνη τους σοφους, και τα ασθενη του κοσμου εξελεξεν ο Θεος δια να καταισχυνη τα ισχυρα,
And God has chosen the ignoble and contemptible of the world, those who are nothing, so that he may reduce to nothing those who are something.28 και τα αγενη του κοσμου και τα εξουθενημενα εξελεξεν ο Θεος, και τα μη οντα, δια να καταργηση τα οντα,
So then, nothing that is of the flesh should glory in his sight.29 δια να μη καυχηθη ουδεμια σαρξ ενωπιον αυτου.
But you are of him in Christ Jesus, who was made by God to be our wisdom and justice and sanctification and redemption.30 Αλλα σεις εισθε εξ αυτου εν Χριστω Ιησου, οστις εγενηθη εις ημας σοφια απο Θεου, δικαιοσυνη τε και αγιασμος και απολυτρωσις?
And so, in the same way, it was written: “Whoever glories, should glory in the Lord.”31 ωστε, καθως ειναι γεγραμμενον, Ο καυχωμενος εν Κυριω ας καυχαται.
