1 Then Paul, gazing intently at the council, said, “Noble brothers, I have spoken with all good conscience before God, even to this present day.”	1 - Paolo, fissato lo sguardo sul Sinedrio, disse: «Fratelli, fino a questo giorno io son vissuto dinanzi a Dio in tutta buona coscienza».
2 And the high priest, Ananias, instructed those who were standing nearby to strike him on the mouth.	2 Qui, il sommo sacerdote Anania comandò a' più vicini che lo percotessero sulla bocca.
3 Then Paul said to him: “God shall strike you, you whitewashed wall! For would you sit and judge me according to the law, when, contrary to the law, you order me to be struck?”	3 Allora Paolo gli disse: «Iddio percoterà te, muraglia imbiancata! Tu siedi a giudicarmi secondo la legge, e, violando la legge, ordini ch'io sia percosso?».
4 And those who were standing nearby said, “Are you speaking evil about the high priest of God?”	4 Quelli che stavano intorno gli dissero: «Oltraggi tu il sommo sacerdote di Dio?».
5 And Paul said: “I did not know, brothers, that he is the high priest. For it is written: ‘You shall not speak evil of the leader of your people.’ ”	5 E Paolo: «Fratelli, io non sapevo esser lui il sommo sacerdote; chè sta scritto: "Non oltraggiare il principe del tuo popolo"».
6 Now Paul, knowing that one group were Sadducees and the other were Pharisees, exclaimed in the council: “Noble brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees! It is over the hope and resurrection of the dead that I am being judged.”	6 Paolo, sapendo che una parte era di Sadducei, e l'altra di Farisei, nel Sinedrio esclamò: «Fratelli, io son Fariseo, figlio di Farisei, e son chiamato in giudizio per la speranza nella risurrezione dei morti!».
7 And when he had said this, a dissension occurred between the Pharisees and the Sadducees. And the multitude was divided.	7 Com'ebbe detto questo, nacque un contrasto tra Farisei e Sadducei, e l'assemblea si divise.
8 For the Sadducees claim that there is no resurrection, and neither angels, nor spirits. But the Pharisees confess both of these.	8 I Sadducei infatti dicono non esserci risurrezione, nè angelo, nè spirito, mentre i Farisei affermano ambedue le cose.
9 Then there occurred a great clamor. And some of the Pharisees, rising up, were fighting, saying: “We find nothing evil in this man. What if a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel?”	9 E si fece un gran vociare. Alcuni del partito de' Farisei si levaron su a protestare, gridando: «Noi non troviamo alcun male in quest'uomo; e se uno spirito o un angelo gli avesse parlato?».
10 And since a great dissension had been made, the tribune, fearing that Paul might be torn apart by them, ordered the soldiers to descend and to seize him from their midst, and to bring him into the fortress.	10 Il tumulto cresceva; e il tribuno, temendo che Paolo fosse fatto da loro a pezzi, comandò ai soldati che scendessero a prenderlo in mezzo e condurlo in fortezza.
11 Then, on the following night, the Lord stood near him and said: “Be constant. For just as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so also it is necessary for you to testify at Rome.”	11 La notte seguente, il Signore fu dinanzi a lui e gli disse: «Sii di buon animo; come m'hai reso testimonianza in Gerusalemme, così bisogna che tu me la renda anche in Roma».
12 And when daylight arrived, some of the Jews gathered together and bound themselves with an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.	12 Quando fu giorno, alcuni Giudei ordirono una congiura, facendo voto, con imprecazioni, di non toccar cibo nè bevanda sino a che non avessero ucciso Paolo.
13 Now there were more than forty men who had taken this oath together.	13 Ed eran più di quaranta coloro che avevan fatta questa congiura.
14 And they approached the leaders of the priests, and the elders, and they said: “We have sworn ourselves by an oath, so that we will taste nothing, until we have killed Paul.	14 Essi si recarono dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli anziani, dicendo: «Noi abbiam fatto voto, con imprecazione, di non prender cibo sino a quando non abbiamo ucciso Paolo.
15 Therefore, with the council, you should now give notice to the tribune, so that he may bring him to you, as if you intended to determine something else about him. But before he approaches, we have made preparations to put him to death.”	15 Voi dunque, col Sinedrio, fate sapere al tribuno che lo meni giù da voi, come se voleste esaminarlo più a fondo, e noi, pronti, prima che arrivi da voi, l'uccideremo».
16 But when Paul’s sister’s son had heard of this, about their treachery, he went and entered into the fortress, and he reported it to Paul.	16 Ma un figliuolo della sorella di Paolo, risaputo di questa insidia, andò alla fortezza, entrò, e riferì la cosa a Paolo.
17 And Paul, calling to him one of the centurions, said: “Lead this young man to the tribune. For he has something to tell him.”	17 E Paolo, fatto chiamare uno dei centurioni, gli disse: «Conduci questo giovine dal tribuno; ha qualche cosa da fargli sapere».
18 And indeed, he took him and led him to the tribune, and he said, “Paul, the prisoner, asked me to lead this young man to you, since he has something to say to you.”	18 E subito colui lo prese, lo menò al tribuno e disse: «Quel carcerato, Paolo, m'ha pregato di condurre a te questo giovine, che ha qualche cosa da dirti».
19 Then the tribune, taking him by the hand, withdrew with him by themselves, and he asked him: “What is it that you have to tell me?”	19 E il tribuno, presolo per mano e ritiratosi in disparte con lui, gli domandò: «Che cos'hai da farmi sapere?».
20 Then he said: “The Jews have met to ask you to bring Paul tomorrow to the council, as if they intended to question him about something else.	20 Ed egli rispose: «I Giudei si sono accordati per pregarti di condurre domani Paolo al Sinedrio col pretesto di esaminarlo più minutamente;
21 But truly, you should not believe them, for they would ambush him with more than forty men from among them, who have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat, nor to drink, until they have put him to death. And they are now prepared, hoping for an affirmation from you.”	21 ma tu non ti fidare di essi, perchè più di quaranta de' loro gli preparano insidie, avendo fatto voto con imprecazioni di non mangiare nè bere, sino a che non l'abbiano ucciso: ed ora stanno pronti, aspettando il tuo assenso».
22 And then the tribune dismissed the young man, instructing him not to tell anyone that he had made known these things to him.	22 Il tribuno licenziò il giovane, dopo avergli comandato di non dire ad alcuno che gli aveva palesato tali cose.
23 Then, having called two centurions, he said to them: “Prepare two hundred soldiers, so that they may go as far as Caesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen, for the third hour of the night.	23 E chiamati due centurioni, disse loro: «Che sian pronti per la terza ora della notte dugento soldati, settanta cavalieri e dugento lancieri, per andar fino a Cesarea;
24 And prepare beasts of burden to carry Paul, so that they may lead him safely to Felix, the governor.”	24 e fate preparare delle cavalcature per porvi Paolo sopra e condurlo salvo al governatore Felice».
25 For he was afraid, lest perhaps the Jews might seize him and kill him, and that afterwards he would be falsely accused, as if he had accepted a bribe. And so he wrote a letter containing the following:	25 Egli infatti temette che forse i Giudei, rapitolo, l'uccidessero, e su lui ricadesse la calunnia d'aver preso danaro.
26 “Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor, Felix: greetings.	26 Scrisse poi una lettera che diceva così: «Claudio Lisia, all'eccellentissimo governatore Felice, salute.
27 This man, having been apprehended by the Jews and being about to be put to death by them, I rescued, overwhelming them with soldiers, since I realized that he is a Roman.	27 Quest'uomo era stato preso dai Giudei e sul punto d'essere ucciso quand'io, sopraggiunto co' soldati, l'ho liberato, avendo inteso ch'è Romano;
28 And wanting to know the reason that they objected to him, I brought him into their council.	28 e, volendo conoscere di che l'accusavano lo condussi dinanzi al loro Sinedrio.
29 And I discovered him to be accused about questions of their law. Yet truly, nothing deserving of death or imprisonment was within the accusation.	29 Ma trovai ch'è accusato di quistioni della loro legge, senza che ci sia colpa alcuna degna di morte o di catene.
30 And when I had been given news of ambushes, which they had prepared against him, I sent him to you, notifying his accusers also, so that they may plead their accusations before you. Farewell.”	30 Or mi s'è riferito di insidie tese a lui; perciò te lo mando, avvertendo anche i suoi accusatori che si rivolgano a te. Sta' sano.»
31 Therefore the soldiers, taking Paul according to their orders, brought him by night to Antipatris.	31 I soldati dunque, secondo gli ordini ricevuti, presero Paolo e lo condussero di notte ad Antipatride.
32 And the next day, sending the horsemen to go with him, they returned to the fortress.	32 Il giorno seguente, lasciando che i cavalieri andassero con lui, ritornarono alla fortezza.
33 And when they had arrived at Caesarea and had delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul before him.	33 E quelli, giunti a Cesarea, consegnarono la lettera al governatore e gli presentarono anche Paolo.
34 And when he had read it and had asked which province he was from, realizing that he was from Cilicia, he said:	34 Il governatore, com'ebbe letta la lettera, domandò a Paolo di qual provincia fosse; e udito che era di Cilicia,
35 “I will hear you, when your accusers have arrived.” And he ordered him to be kept in the praetorium of Herod.	35 disse: «T'ascolterò quando saranno arrivati anche i tuoi accusatori». E ordinò che fosse custodito nel pretorio di Erode.
