1 And certain ones, descending from Judea, were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”	1 Scesero dalla Giudea certuni i quali andavano insegnando ai fratelli: «Se non vi circoncidete secondo il costume mosaico, non potete salvarvi».
2 Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas made no small uprising against them, they decided that Paul and Barnabas, and some from the opposing side, should go up to the Apostles and priests in Jerusalem concerning this question.	2 Sortane un’agitata discussione tra Paolo e Barnaba da una parte ed essi dall’altra, si stabilì che Paolo, Barnaba e alcuni altri di loro salissero dagli apostoli e presbiteri a Gerusalemme per dirimere la controversia.
3 Therefore, being led by the church, they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, describing the conversion of the Gentiles. And they caused great joy among all the brothers.	3 Essi dunque, salutati dalla Chiesa, traversarono la Fenicia e la Samaria raccontando la conversione dei pagani e procurarono grande gioia a tutti i fratelli.
4 And when they had arrived in Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the Apostles and the elders, reporting what great things God had done with them.	4 Giunti a Gerusalemme, furono ricevuti dalla Chiesa, dagli apostoli e dai presbiteri e poi riferirono quali grandi cose Dio avesse operato con loro.
5 But some from the sect of the Pharisees, those who were believers, rose up saying, “It is necessary for them to be circumcised and to be instructed to keep the Law of Moses.”	5 Si alzarono allora alcuni convertiti dalla setta dei farisei a dire: «Bisogna circonciderli e ordinar loro di osservare la legge di Mosè».
6 And the Apostles and elders came together to take care of this matter.	6 Allora gli apostoli e i presbiteri tennero consiglio per studiare la questione.
7 And after a great contention had taken place, Peter rose up and said to them: “Noble brothers, you know that, in recent days, God has chosen from among us, by my mouth, Gentiles to hear the word of the Gospel and to believe.	7 Dopo un lungo dibattito, Pietro si alzò e parlò a tutti: «Fratelli, voi sapete che dai primi giorni Dio ha scelto tra noi la mia bocca perché i pagani ascoltassero il messaggio evangelico e venissero alla fede.
8 And God, who knows hearts, offered testimony, by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as to us.	8 Dio stesso, che legge nei cuori, si è dichiarato in loro favore col dar loro lo Spirito Santo né più né meno che a noi,
9 And he distinguished nothing between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.	9 senza perciò far nessuna distinzione tra noi e loro, mentre con la fede purificava le loro anime.
10 Now therefore, why do you tempt God to impose a yoke upon the necks of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?	10 Perché dunque ora tentate Iddio con l’imporre sul collo dei cristiani un giogo che né i nostri antenati né noi stessi abbiamo potuto portare?
11 But by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe in order to be saved, in the same manner also as them.”	11 Noi piuttosto riteniamo di esser salvi anche noi per mezzo della grazia del Signore Gesù, non diversamente da loro».
12 Then the entire multitude was silent. And they were listening to Barnabas and Paul, describing what great signs and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles through them.	12 L’assemblea allora tacque per ascoltare Barnaba e Paolo che esponevano quanto grandi segni e prodigi Dio per loro mezzo aveva operato tra i pagani.
13 And after they had been silent, James responded by saying: “Noble brothers, listen to me.	13 Quando essi tacquero, Giacomo prese la parola: «Fratelli, ascoltatemi.
14 Simon has explained in what manner God first visited, so as to take from the Gentiles a people to his name.	14 Simone ha esposto come Dio abbia provveduto una prima volta di costituirsi un popolo tra i pagani.
15 And the words of the Prophets are in agreement with this, just as it was written:	15 E con questo concordano gli oracoli profetici nei quali sta scritto:
16 ‘After these things, I will return, and I will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down. And I will rebuild its ruins, and I will raise it up,	16 Dopo questo rialzerò la tenda di Davide caduta, ricostruirò le sue rovine e la rialzerò in piedi,
17 so that the rest of men may seek the Lord, along with all the nations over whom my name has been invoked, says the Lord, who does these things.’	17 affinché cerchino Dio anche gli altri uomini, tutte le genti su cui è stato invocato il mio nome. Ciò dice il Signore autore di queste cose
18 To the Lord, his own work has been known from eternity.	18 a lui note da sempre.
19 Because of this, I judge that those who were converted to God from among the Gentiles are not to be disturbed,	19 Io perciò ritengo che non si debba più oltre sovraccaricare quelli che si convertono a Dio dal paganesimo.
20 but instead that we write to them, that they should keep themselves from the defilement of idols, and from fornication, and from whatever has been suffocated, and from blood.	20 Solo si notifichi loro per iscritto di continuare a tenersi lontani dalle sozzure degli idoli, dai matrimoni irregolari, dagli animali uccisi mediante soffocamento e dal sangue.
21 For Moses, from ancient times, has had in each city those who preach him in the synagogues, where he is read on every Sabbath.”	21 Mosè fin dai tempi antichi ha in ogni città predicatori che spiegano ciò pubblicamente, quando viene letto al sabato nelle sinagoghe».
22 Then it pleased the Apostles and elders, with the whole Church, to choose men from among them, and to send to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas, and Judas, who was surnamed Barsabbas, and Silas, preeminent men among the brothers,	22 Allora gli apostoli, i presbiteri e l’intera Chiesa decisero di scegliere alcuni di loro e inviarli, con Paolo e Barnaba, ad Antiochia: Giuda detto Bar-Sabba e Sila, capi tra i fratelli.
23 what was written by their own hands: “The Apostles and elders, brothers, to those who are at Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, brothers from the Gentiles, greetings.	23 Dovevano portare la seguente lettera: «Gli apostoli e i presbiteri loro colleghi ai fratelli provenienti dal paganesimo residenti in Antiochia, Siria e Cilicia, salute!
24 Since we have heard that some, going out from among us, have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, to whom we gave no commandment,	24 Abbiamo saputo che alcuni della nostra comunità senza nostro ordine sono partiti di qui e vi hanno turbato seminando disordine tra voi con i loro discorsi.
25 it pleased us, being assembled as one, to choose men and to send them to you, with our most beloved Barnabas and Paul:	25 Perciò noi ci siamo adunati in assemblea e abbiamo stabilito di scegliere alcuni da mandarvi in compagnia dei nostri carissimi Barnaba e Paolo,
26 men who have handed over their lives on behalf of the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.	26 uomini che si sono interamente dati alla causa di nostro Signore Gesù Cristo.
27 Therefore, we have sent Judas and Silas, who themselves also will, with the spoken word, reaffirm to you the same things.	27 Inviamo pertanto Giuda e Sila, affinché anche essi a voce vi riferiscano le nostre decisioni.
28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to impose no further burden upon you, other than these necessary things:	28 È sembrato bene, cioè, allo Spirito Santo e a noi di non imporvi alcun altro gravame all’infuori dei seguenti ovvii obblighi:
29 that you abstain from things immolated to idols, and from blood, and from what has been suffocated, and from fornication. You will do well to keep yourselves from these things. Farewell.”	29 che vi teniate lontani dagli idolotiti, dal sangue, dagli animali soffocati e dai matrimoni irregolari. Se Vi preserverete dalle dette cose, farete bene. Vi salutiamo».
30 And so, having been dismissed, they went down to Antioch. And gathering the multitude together, they delivered the epistle.	30 I latori quindi si congedarono e scesero ad Antiochia, dove radunarono la comunità e consegnarono la lettera.
31 And when they had read it, they were gladdened by this consolation.	31 Quelli ne fecero lettura e furono lieti dell’esortazione.
32 But Judas and Silas, being also prophets themselves, consoled the brothers with many words, and they were strengthened.	32 Poi Giuda e Sila, anch’essi profeti, esortarono e incoraggiarono i fratelli con molti discorsi,
33 Then, after spending some more time there, they were dismissed with peace, by the brothers, to those who had sent them.	33 finché, dopo essersi trattenuti un po’ di tempo, furono rimandati dai fratelli con auguri di prosperità presso coloro che li avevano inviati.
34 But it seemed good to Silas to remain there. So Judas alone departed to Jerusalem.	34 .
35 And Paul and Barnabas remained at Antioch, with many others, teaching and evangelizing the Word of the Lord.	35 Paolo e Barnaba si fermarono invece ad Antiochia a insegnare e annunziare con molti altri l’evangelo.
36 Then, after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return to visit the brothers throughout all the cities in which we have preached the Word of the Lord, to see how they are.”	36 Passato qualche tempo, disse Paolo a Barnaba: «Dobbiamo tornare a visitare i fratelli città per città dove abbiamo annunziato l’evangelo, per renderci conto del loro stato».
37 And Barnabas wanted to take John, who was surnamed Mark, with them also.	37 Barnaba intendeva prendere con sé anche Giovanni detto Marco,
38 But Paul was saying that he ought not to be received, since he withdrew from them at Pamphylia, and he had not gone with them in the work.	38 ma Paolo non. volle assolutamente condurre più con sé uno che si era separato da loro in Panfilia e non li aveva più aiutati.
39 And there occurred a dissension, to such an extent that they departed from one another. And Barnabas, indeed taking Mark, sailed to Cyprus.	39 Ne nacque perciò un forte dissapore, tanto che si separarono: Barnaba prese con sé Marco e s’imbarcò per Cipro:
40 Yet truly, Paul, choosing Silas, set out, being delivered by the brothers to the grace of God.	40 Paolo si scelse Sila e partì, raccomandato alla grazia di Dio dai fratelli;
41 And he traveled through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the Churches, instructing them to keep the precepts of the Apostles and the elders.	41 e così percorse la Siria e la Cilicia incoraggiando le diverse Chiese.
