And I saw, and behold, in the firmament that was over the heads of the cherubim, there appeared above them something like the sapphire stone, with the sight of the likeness of a throne.1 I looked and saw in the firmament above the cherubim what appeared to be sapphire stone; something like a throne could be seen upon it.
And he spoke to the man who was clothed with linen, and he said: “Enter, between the wheels that are under the cherubim, and fill your hand with the coals of fire that are between the cherubim, and pour them upon the city.” And he entered, in my sight.2 He said to the man dressed in linen: Go within the wheelwork under the cherubim; fill both your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim, then scatter them over the city. As I looked on, he entered. The glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherubim, upon which it had been, to the threshold of the temple.
Now the cherubim were standing before the right side of the house, when the man entered. And a cloud filled the inner court.3 As the man entered, the cloud filled the inner court,
And the glory of the Lord was lifted up, from above the cherubim, to the threshold of the house. And the house was filled with the cloud. And the court was filled with the splendor of the glory of the Lord.4 and the glory of the LORD rose from over the cherubim to the threshold of the temple; the temple was filled with the cloud, and all the court was bright with the glory of the LORD.
And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even in the outer court, like the voice of Almighty God speaking.5 The noise of the wings of the cherubim could be heard as far as the outer court; it was like the voice of God the Almighty when he speaks.
And when he had instructed the man who was clothed with linen, saying, “Take fire from the midst of the wheels that are between the cherubim,” he entered and stood next to the wheel.6 When he had commanded the man dressed in linen to take fire from within the wheelwork, among the cherubim, the man entered and stood by one of the wheels.
And one cherub extended his hand, from the midst of the cherubim, to the fire that was between the cherubim. And he took and gave it into the hands of the one who was clothed with linen, and he accepted it and went forth.7 Thereupon its cherub stretched out his hand toward the fire that was among the cherubim. He took up some of it and put it in the hands of the one dressed in linen, who took it and came out.
And there appeared amid the cherubim the likeness of the hand of a man, under their wings.8 (Something like human hands could be seen under the wings of the cherubim.)
And I saw, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim. One wheel was next to one cherub, and another wheel was next to another cherub. And the appearance of the wheels was like the sight of the chrysolite stone.9 I also saw four wheels beside them, one wheel beside each cherub; the wheels appeared to have the luster of chrysolite stone.
And in their appearance, each one of the four were similar, as if a wheel were in the midst of a wheel.10 All four of them seemed to be made the same, as though they were a wheel within a wheel.
And when they went, they advanced in four parts. And they did not turn as they went. Instead, to the place to which they were inclined to go at first, the rest also followed, and they did not turn back.11 When they moved, they went in any one of their four directions without veering as they moved; for in whichever direction they were faced, they went straight toward it without veering as they moved.
And their entire body, with their necks and their hands and their wings and the circles, were full of eyes all around the four wheels.12 The rims of the four wheels were full of eyes all around.
And in my hearing, he called these wheels: “constantly changing.”13 I heard the wheels given the name "wheelwork."
Now each one had four faces. One face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and in the third was the face of a lion, and in the fourth was the face of an eagle.14 Each had four faces: the first face was that of an ox, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the fourth that of an eagle.
And the cherubim were lifted up. This is the living creature, which I had seen beside the river Chebar.15 Such were the living creatures I had seen by the river Chebar.
And when the cherubim advanced, the wheels also went beside them. And when the cherubim lifted up their wings in order to be raised up from the earth, the wheels did not remain behind, but they also were beside them.16 When the cherubim moved, the wheels went beside them; when the cherubim lifted their wings to rise from the earth, even then the wheels did not leave their sides.
When they were standing, these stood still. And when they were lifted up, these were lifted up. For the spirit of life was in them.17 When they stood still, the wheels stood still; when they rose, the wheels rose with them; for the living creatures' spirit was in them.
And the glory of the Lord went forth from the threshold of the temple, and stood above the cherubim.18 Then the glory of the LORD left the threshold of the temple and rested upon the cherubim.
And the cherubim, lifting up their wings, were raised up from the earth in my sight. And as they went away, the wheels also followed. And it stood at the entrance to the east gate of the house of the Lord. And the glory of the God of Israel was over them.19 These lifted their wings, and I saw them rise from the earth, the wheels rising along with them. They stood at the entrance of the eastern gate of the LORD'S house, and the glory of the God of Israel was up above them.
This is the living creature, which I saw under the God of Israel beside the river Chebar. And I understood that they were cherubim.20 these were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the river Chebar, whom I now recognized to be cherubim.
Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. And the likeness of the hand of a man was under their wings.21 Each ohad four faces and four wings; something like human hands were under their wings.
And, concerning the appearance of their faces, these were the same faces that I had seen beside the river Chebar, and the gaze and force of each one of them was to go before his face.22 Their faces looked just like those I had seen by the river Chebar; each one went straight forward.
