Isaiah 37

1 And it happened that, when king Hezekiah had heard this, he rent his garments, and he wrapped himself in sackcloth, and he entered the house of the Lord.	1 Cuando el rey Ezequías oyó esto, rasgó sus vestiduras, se cubrió con un sayal y fue a la Casa del Señor.
2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the house, and Shebna, the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah, the son of Amoz, the prophet.	2 Además, envió al mayordomo de palacio Eliaquím, al secretario Sebná y a los sacerdotes más ancianos, todos cubiertos de sayales, para decir al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós:
3 And they said to him: “Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of tribulation, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy. For the sons have arrived at the time for birth, but there is not enough strength to bring them forth.	3 «Así habla Ezequías: Hoy es un día de angustia, de castigo y de oprobio, porque los hijos están a punto de nacer, pero no hay fuerza para darlos a luz.
4 Perhaps, somehow, the Lord your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of the Assyrians, his lord, has sent to blaspheme the living God, and will rebuke the words that the Lord your God has heard. Therefore, lift up your prayers on behalf of the remnant which has been left behind.”	4 Tal vez el Señor, tu Dios, escuche las palabras del copero mayor, a quien el rey de Asiria, su señor, envió para insultar al Dios viviente, y el Señor tu Dios, lo castigue por las palabras que ha escuchado. Eleva entonces una plegaria por el resto que todavía subsiste».
5 And so the servants of king Hezekiah went to Isaiah.	5 Los servidores del rey Ezequías fueron a ver a Isaías,
6 And Isaiah said to them: “You shall say this to your lord: Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid to face the words that you have heard, by which the servants of the king of the Assyrians blasphemed me.	6 y este les dijo: «Díganle a su señor: Así habla el Señor: No temas por las palabras que has oído y con las que me ultrajaron los lacayos del rey de Asiria.
7 Behold, I will send a spirit to him, and he will hear a message, and he will return to his own land. And I will cause him to fall by the sword, in his own land.”	7 Yo mismo pondré un espíritu en él y, apenas oiga una noticia, regresará a su país; y yo lo haré caer bajo la espada en su propio país».
8 Then Rabshakeh returned, and he found the king of the Assyrians fighting against Libnah. For he had heard that he had set out from Lachish.	8 El copero mayor regresó y se encontró con el rey de Asiria, que estaba atacando a Libná. El había oído, en efecto, que el rey se había retirado de Laquis,
9 And he heard from Tirhakah, the king of Ethiopia: “He has gone forth so that he may fight against you.” And when he had heard this, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying:	9 al recibir esta noticia acerca de Tirjacá, rey de Cus: «Se ha puesto en campaña para combatirte». Al oír esto, Senaquerib envió mensajeros a Ezequías para decirle:
10 “You shall say this to Hezekiah, the king of Judah, saying: Do not let your God, in whom you trust, deceive you by saying: ‘Jerusalem will not be given into the hands of the king of the Assyrians.’	10 «Háblenle así a Ezequías, rey de Judá: Que no te engañe tu Dios, en quien confías, haciéndote pensar que Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.
11 Behold, you have heard about all that the kings of the Assyrians have done to all the lands that they have conquered, and so, how can you be delivered?	11 Tú has oído, seguramente, lo que hicieron los reyes de Asiria a todos los países, al consagrarlos al exterminio total. ¿Y tú te vas a librar?
12 Have the gods of the nations rescued those whom my fathers have conquered: Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden who were at Telassar?	12 ¿Libraron acaso sus dioses a esas naciones que mis padres han destruido, a Gozán, Jarán, Résef, y a la gente de Edén que está en Telasar?
13 Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arpad, or the king of the city of Sepharvaim, or of Hena and Ivvah?”	13 ¿Dónde están el rey de Jamat, el rey de Arpad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, el de Hená y el de Ivá?».
14 And Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers, and he read it, and he went up to the house of the Lord, and Hezekiah spread it out in the sight of the Lord.	14 Ezequías tomó la carta de manos de los mensajeros y la leyó. Después subió a la Casa del Señor, la desplegó delante del Señor
15 And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, saying:	15 y oró al Señor, diciendo:
16 “O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel who sits upon the Cherubim: you alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.	16 «Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que tienes tu trono sobre los querubines: tú solo eres el Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra, tú has hecho el cielo y la tierra.
17 O Lord, incline your ear and listen. O Lord, open your eyes and see. And hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to blaspheme the living God.	17 Inclina tu oído, Señor, y escucha; abre tus ojos, Señor, y mira. Escucha todas las palabras que Senaquerib ha mandado decir, para insultar al Dios viviente.
18 For truly, O Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have laid waste to countries and territories.	18 Es verdad, Señor, que los reyes de Asiria han arrasado todas las naciones y sus territorios.
19 And they have cast their gods into the fire. For these were not gods, but the works of men’s hands, of wood and of stone. And they broke them into pieces.	19 Ellos han arrojado sus dioses al fuego, porque no son dioses, sino obra de las manos del hombre, nada más que madera y piedra. Por eso los hicieron desaparecer.
20 And now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand. And let all the kingdoms of the earth acknowledge that you alone are Lord.”	20 Pero ahora, Señor, Dios nuestro, ¡sálvanos de su mano, y que todos los reinos de la tierra reconozcan que tú sólo, Señor, eres Dios!».
21 And Isaiah, the son of Amoz, sent to Hezekiah, saying: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Because of what you have prayed to me about Sennacherib, the king of the Assyrians,	21 Isaías, hijo de Amós, mandó a decir a Ezequías: Así habla el Señor, Dios de Israel: Tú me has dirigido una súplica acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria.
22 this is the word that the Lord has spoken over him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and mocked you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.	22 Esta es la palabra que el Señor ha pronunciado contra él: Te desprecia, se burla de ti, la virgen hija de Sión; a tus espaldas mueve la cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.
23 Whom have you insulted? And whom have you blasphemed? And against whom have you lifted up your voice and raised up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!	23 ¿A quién has insultado y ultrajado? ¿Contra quién has alzado la voz y levantado bien alto tus ojos? ¡Contra el santo de Israel!
24 By the hand of your servants, you have reproached the Lord. And you have said: ‘With a multitude of my four-horse chariots, I have ascended the heights of the mountains adjoining Lebanon. And I will cut down its lofty cedars and its choice pine trees. And I will reach the top of its summit, to the forest of its Carmel.	24 Por medio de tus servidores has insultado al Señor y has dicho: Con mis numerosos carros escalé la cima de las montañas, los rincones inaccesibles del Líbano. Talé sus cedros más altos, sus mejores cipreses; llegué hasta su último extremo, hasta lo más espeso de su bosque.
25 I dug deep, and I drank water, and I dried up all the river banks with the sole of my foot.’	25 Excavé pozos y bebí todos los canales de Egipto.
26 Have you not heard what I have done to it in past times? In ancient times, I formed it. And now I have brought it forth. And it has been made so that the hills and the fortified cities would fight together, unto its destruction.	26 ¿No lo has oído? Hace mucho tiempo que lo he preparado: lo he planeado desde los tiempos antiguos y ahora lo llevo a cabo. Así, tú has reducido a un montón de ruinas las ciudades fortificadas.
27 Their inhabitants had unsteady hands. They trembled and were confused. They became like the plants of the field, and the grass of the pastures, and like the weeds on the rooftops, which wither before they are mature.	27 Sus habitantes, con las manos caídas, están aterrorizados, avergonzados: son como el pasto de los campos y la gramilla verde, como la hierba de los techos o el grano agostado antes de madurar.
28 I know your habitation, and your arrival, and your departure, and your madness against me.	28 Pero yo sé cuándo te sientas, cuándo sales y cuándo entras, y cuándo tiemblas de rabia contra mí.
29 When you became angry against me, your arrogance rose up to my ears. Therefore, I will place a ring in your nose, and a bit between your lips. And I will turn you back on the road by which you arrived.	29 Porque has temblado de rabia contra mí y tu insolencia ha subido a mis oídos, pondré mi garfio en tus narices y mi bozal en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde habías venido.
30 But this shall be a sign for you: Eat, in this year, whatever springs up on its own. And in the second year, eat fruits. But in the third year, sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.	30 Y esto te servirá de señal: Este año se comerá del grano caído, y el año próximo, de lo que brote espontáneamente; pero al tercer año, siembren y coseche, planten viñas y coman de sus frutos.
31 And what will be saved from the house of Judah, and what is left behind, will form deep roots, and will bear high fruits.	31 Los sobrevivientes de la casa de Judá, los que todavía queden, echarán de nuevo raíces por debajo, y producirán frutos por arriba.
32 For from Jerusalem, a remnant shall go forth, and salvation from mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.	32 Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un resto, y del monte Sión, algunos sobrevivientes. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará todo esto.
33 For this reason, thus says the Lord about the king of the Assyrians: He will not enter this city, nor shoot an arrow into it, nor overtake it with a shield, nor dig a rampart all around it.	33 Por eso, así habla el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: El no entrará en esta ciudad, no le lanzará una flecha, no la enfrentará con el escudo, ni levantará contra ella un terraplén.
34 He will return on the road by which he arrived. And into this city, he will not enter, says the Lord.	34 Se volverá por el mismo camino, sin entrar en esta ciudad –oráculo del Señor–,
35 And I will protect this city, so that I may save it for my own sake, and for the sake of David, my servant.”	35 Yo defenderé a esta ciudad para salvarla, por mi honor y el de David, mi servidor.
36 Then the Angel of the Lord went forth and struck down, in the camp of the Assyrians, one hundred eighty-five thousand. And they arose in the morning, and behold, all these were dead bodies.	36 El Angel del Señor salió e hirió en el campamento de los Asirios a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres. Y cuando los demás se levantaron por la mañana, vieron que todos eran cadáveres, que estaban muertos.
37 And Sennacherib, the king of the Assyrians, departed and went away. And he returned and lived at Nineveh.	37 Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, levantó el campamento, emprendió el regreso y se quedó en Nínive.
38 And it happened that, as he was adoring his god in the temple of Nisroch, his sons, Adramelech and Sharezer, struck him with the sword. And they fled into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon, his son, reigned in his place.	38 Un día, mientras estaba postrado en el templo de Nisroc, su dios, Adramélec y Sarecer, sus hijos, lo mataron con la espada, y se pusieron a salvo en el país de Ararat. Asarhadón, su hijo, reinó en lugar de él.
