A Psalm of Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to those who are upright in heart.1 De Salomon. Ô Dieu, donne au roi tes jugements, donne à ce fils de roi ta justice,
But my feet were nearly moved; my steps had nearly slipped.2 pour qu’il gouverne ton peuple avec justice, avec les jugements que réclament tes pauvres.
For I was zealous over the iniquitous, seeing the peacefulness of sinners.3 Monts et collines, livrez enfin au peuple le don de la justice et la paix.
For they have no respect for their death, nor do they have support in their wounds.4 Il fera justice aux petits du peuple, il sera un sauveur pour les enfants du pauvre, car il saura casser l’oppresseur.
They are not with the hardships of men, nor will they be scourged with men.5 Il restera aussi longtemps que le soleil, comme la lune au long des âges.
Therefore, arrogance has held on to them. They have been covered with their iniquity and impiety.6 Il sera la rosée qui descend sur le gazon, semblable aux averses qui fécondent le sol.
Their iniquity has proceeded, as if from fat. They have parted from the affection of the heart.7 Durant ses jours la justice fleurira, la paix s’établira jusqu’à la fin des lunes.
They have thought and spoken wickedness. They have spoken iniquity in high places.8 Car voici qu’il domine d’une mer à l’autre mer, depuis le fleuve jusqu’au bout des terres.
They have set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue has traversed the earth.9 Son adversaire pliera le genou devant lui, ses ennemis lécheront la poussière.
Therefore, my people will be converted here, and fullness of days will be found in them.10 Les princes de Tarsis et les îles lointaines apportent leurs offrandes; les rois de Saba, de Séba, paient la redevance;
And they said, “How would God know?” and, “Isn’t there knowledge in high places?”11 tous les rois devant lui se prosternent, tous les peuples veulent le servir.
Behold, these are sinners, and, abounding in this age, they have obtained riches.12 Car il délivre celui qui fait appel, le pauvre, le petit, celui qui n’a pas d’appui.
And I said: So then, it is without purpose that I have justified my heart and washed my hands among the innocent.13 Il a compassion du faible et du pauvre, car il veut sauver, lui, la vie des pauvres.
And I have been scourged all day long, and I have received my chastisement in the mornings.14 Il les sauve de la violence, des abus, leur âme et leur sang ont du prix à ses yeux.
If I were to say that I would explain this: Behold, I would condemn this nation of your sons.15 Qu’il vive, et qu’on lui donne l’or de Saba, que nul ne cesse de prier pour lui, que tout le jour on le bénisse!
I considered, so that I might know this. It is a hardship before me,16 Alors les blés couvriront la terre, onduleront sur les cimes. Leur prospérité sera celle du Liban, ils se multiplieront comme l’herbe sur la terre.
until I may enter into the Sanctuary of God, and understand it to its last part.17 Que son nom demeure à jamais, que toujours son nom perdure sous le soleil! En lui seront bénies toutes les races de la terre, toutes les nations le diront bienheureux.
So, because of deceitfulness, truly, you have placed it before them. While they were being lifted up, you were casting them down.18 Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu d’Israël, lui qui seul fait des merveilles.
How have they been brought to desolation? They have suddenly failed. They have perished because of their iniquity.19 Béni soit à jamais son Nom très saint, que sa gloire emplisse la terre entière!
As a dream is to those who awaken, O Lord, so will you reduce their image to nothing in your city.20 Ici se terminent les prières de David, fils de Jessé.
For my heart has been inflamed, and my temperament has been changed.
And so, I have been reduced to nothing, and I did not know it.
I have become like a beast of burden to you, and I am always with you.
You have held my right hand. And in your will, you have conducted me, and with your glory, you have taken me up.
For what is there for me in heaven? And what do I wish for on earth before you?
My body has failed, and my heart: O God of my heart, and God my portion, into eternity.
For behold, those who put themselves far from you will perish. You have perished all those who fornicate away from you.
But it is good for me to adhere to God, to put my hope in the Lord God, so that I may announce all your prophecies, at the gates of the daughter of Zion.
