A Canticle in steps. When the Lord turned back the captivity of Zion, we became like those who are consoled. | 1 Canticum graduum. In convertendo Dominus captivitatem Sion, facti sumus sicut consolati. |
Then our mouth was filled with gladness and our tongue with exultation. Then they will say among the nations: “The Lord has done great things for them.” | 2 Tunc repletum est gaudio os nostrum, et lingua nostra exsultatione. Tunc dicent inter gentes : Magnificavit Dominus facere cum eis. |
The Lord has done great things for us. We have become joyful. | 3 Magnificavit Dominus facere nobiscum ; facti sumus lætantes. |
Convert our captivity, O Lord, like a torrent in the south. | 4 Converte, Domine, captivitatem nostram, sicut torrens in austro. |
Those who sow in tears shall reap in exultation. | 5 Qui seminant in lacrimis, in exsultatione metent. |
When departing, they went forth and wept, sowing their seeds. | 6 Euntes ibant et flebant, mittentes semina sua. Venientes autem venient cum exsultatione, portantes manipulos suos. |
But when returning, they will arrive with exultation, carrying their sheaves. |
