Luke 3

1 In the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar's reign, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judaea, Herodtetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the territories of Ituraea and Trachonitis, Lysanias tetrarch ofAbilene,	1 П’ятнадцятого року правління кесаря Тиверія, коли Понтій Пилат був правителем Юдеї, Ірод — четверовласником Галилеї, Филип же, його брат, четверовласником краю Ітуреї та Трахонітіди, а Лісаній четверовласником Авілени,
2 and while the high-priesthood was held by Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the sonof Zechariah, in the desert.	2 за первосвящеників Анни та Каяфи, слово Боже було до Йоана, сина Захарії, в пустині.
3 He went through the whole Jordan area proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,	3 І він ходив по всій околиці йорданській, проповідуючи хрищення покаяння на прощення гріхів,
4 as it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet: A voice of one that cries in the desert:Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight!	4 як писано в книзі віщувань пророка Ісаї «Голос вопіющого в пустині Готуйте путь Господню, вирівняйте стежки його.
5 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, winding ways be straightened andrough roads made smooth,	5 Кожна долина заповниться, кожна гора й горб знизиться, нерівне вирівняється, дороги вибоїсті стануть гладкі,
6 and al humanity wil see the salvation of God.	6 а кожна людина побачить спасіння Господнє.»
7 He said, therefore, to the crowds who came to be baptised by him, 'Brood of vipers, who warned you toflee from the coming retribution?	7 Він, отже, говорив до людей, що приходили христитися до нього «Гадюче поріддя! Хто вам вказав утікати від настигаючого гніву
8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance, and do not start telling yourselves, "We have Abraham as ourfather," because, I tel you, God can raise children for Abraham from these stones.	8 Чиніть плоди, достойні покаяння, і не беріться говорити собі Маємо за батька Авраама. Кажу бо вам, що Бог з цього каміння може підняти дітей для Авраама.
9 Yes, even now the axe is being laid to the root of the trees, so that any tree failing to produce good fruitwil be cut down and thrown on the fire.'	9 Ба вже і сокира прикладена до кореня дерев кожне бо дерево, що не приносить доброго плоду, буде зрубане та вкинуте в вогонь.»
10 When al the people asked him, 'What must we do, then?'	10 Люди питали його «Що ж нам робити»
11 he answered, 'Anyone who has two tunics must share with the one who has none, and anyone withsomething to eat must do the same.'	11 Він відповів їм «Хто має дві одежі, нехай дасть тому, що не має. А хто має харч, нехай так само зробить.»
12 There were tax collectors, too, who came for baptism, and these said to him, 'Master, what must wedo?'	12 Прийшли також митарі христитись і йому мовили «Учителю, що маємо робити»
13 He said to them, 'Exact no more than the appointed rate.'	13 А він сказав їм «Нічого більше понад те, що вам призначено, не робіть.»
14 Some soldiers asked him in their turn, 'What about us? What must we do?' He said to them, 'Nointimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!'	14 Вояки теж його питали «А ми що маємо робити» Він відповів їм «Нікому кривди не чиніть, фальшиво не доносьте і вдовольняйтесь вашою платнею.»
15 A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to wonder whether Johnmight be the Christ,	15 А із-за того, що люди вижидали (Месії), кожен сам у собі розмірковував про Йоана, чи не він часом Христос.
16 so John declared before them al , 'I baptise you with water, but someone is coming, who is morepowerful than me, and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit andfire.	16 Йоан, звертаючись до всіх, озвався «Я вас хрищу водою, але йде сильніший від мене, якому я негідний розв’язати ремінь від взуття. Той буде вас христити Духом Святим і вогнем.
17 His winnowing-fan is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; butthe chaff he wil burn in a fire that will never go out.'	17 Його лопата в руці в нього, щоб вичистити тік свій і зібрати пшеницю в свою клуню, а полову спалити вогнем невгасимим.»
18 And he proclaimed the good news to the people with many other exhortations too.	18 Навчаючи ж багато й іншого, він звіщав народові Добру Новину.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, censured by John for his relations with his brother's wife Herodias and for allthe other crimes he had committed,	19 Тим часом четверовласник Ірод, якому Йоан докоряв за Іродіяду, жінку його брата, і за все, що Ірод накоїв,
20 added a further crime to al the rest by shutting John up in prison.	20 додав ще й це до того всього, що замкнув Йоана до в’язниці.
21 Now it happened that when al the people had been baptised and while Jesus after his own baptismwas at prayer, heaven opened	21 Коли ввесь народ христився, і коли Ісус, охристившись, молився, відкрилось небо,
