1 In the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar's reign, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judaea, Herodtetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the territories of Ituraea and Trachonitis, Lysanias tetrarch ofAbilene,	1 В пятнадцатый же год правления Тиверия кесаря, когда Понтий Пилат начальствовал в Иудее, Ирод был четвертовластником в Галилее, Филипп, брат его, четвертовластником в Итурее и Трахонитской области, а Лисаний четвертовластником в Авилинее,
2 and while the high-priesthood was held by Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the sonof Zechariah, in the desert.	2 при первосвященниках Анне и Каиафе, был глагол Божий к Иоанну, сыну Захарии, в пустыне.
3 He went through the whole Jordan area proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,	3 И он проходил по всей окрестной стране Иорданской, проповедуя крещение покаяния для прощения грехов,
4 as it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet: A voice of one that cries in the desert:Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight!	4 как написано в книге слов пророка Исаии, который говорит: глас вопиющего в пустыне: приготовьте путь Господу, прямыми сделайте стези Ему;
5 Let every val ey be fil ed in, every mountain and hil be level ed, winding ways be straightened andrough roads made smooth,	5 всякий дол да наполнится, и всякая гора и холм да понизятся, кривизны выпрямятся и неровные пути сделаются гладкими;
6 and al humanity wil see the salvation of God.	6 и узрит всякая плоть спасение Божие.
7 He said, therefore, to the crowds who came to be baptised by him, 'Brood of vipers, who warned you toflee from the coming retribution?	7 [Иоанн] приходившему креститься от него народу говорил: порождения ехиднины! кто внушил вам бежать от будущего гнева?
8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance, and do not start telling yourselves, "We have Abraham as ourfather," because, I tel you, God can raise children for Abraham from these stones.	8 Сотворите же достойные плоды покаяния и не думайте говорить в себе: отец у нас Авраам, ибо говорю вам, что Бог может из камней сих воздвигнуть детей Аврааму.
9 Yes, even now the axe is being laid to the root of the trees, so that any tree failing to produce good fruitwil be cut down and thrown on the fire.'	9 Уже и секира при корне дерев лежит: всякое дерево, не приносящее доброго плода, срубают и бросают в огонь.
10 When al the people asked him, 'What must we do, then?'	10 И спрашивал его народ: что же нам делать?
11 he answered, 'Anyone who has two tunics must share with the one who has none, and anyone withsomething to eat must do the same.'	11 Он сказал им в ответ: у кого две одежды, тот дай неимущему, и у кого есть пища, делай то же.
12 There were tax collectors, too, who came for baptism, and these said to him, 'Master, what must wedo?'	12 Пришли и мытари креститься, и сказали ему: учитель! что нам делать?
13 He said to them, 'Exact no more than the appointed rate.'	13 Он отвечал им: ничего не требуйте более определенного вам.
14 Some soldiers asked him in their turn, 'What about us? What must we do?' He said to them, 'Nointimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!'	14 Спрашивали его также и воины: а нам что делать? И сказал им: никого не обижайте, не клевещите, и довольствуйтесь своим жалованьем.
15 A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to wonder whether Johnmight be the Christ,	15 Когда же народ был в ожидании, и все помышляли в сердцах своих об Иоанне, не Христос ли он, --
16 so John declared before them al , 'I baptise you with water, but someone is coming, who is morepowerful than me, and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit andfire.	16 Иоанн всем отвечал: я крещу вас водою, но идёт Сильнейший меня, у Которого я недостоин развязать ремень обуви; Он будет крестить вас Духом Святым и огнем.
17 His winnowing-fan is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; butthe chaff he wil burn in a fire that will never go out.'	17 Лопата Его в руке Его, и Он очистит гумно Свое и соберет пшеницу в житницу Свою, а солому сожжет огнем неугасимым.
18 And he proclaimed the good news to the people with many other exhortations too.	18 Многое и другое благовествовал он народу, поучая его.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, censured by John for his relations with his brother's wife Herodias and for allthe other crimes he had committed,	19 Ирод же четвертовластник, обличаемый от него за Иродиаду, жену брата своего, и за всё, что сделал Ирод худого,
20 added a further crime to al the rest by shutting John up in prison.	20 прибавил ко всему прочему и то, что заключил Иоанна в темницу.
21 Now it happened that when al the people had been baptised and while Jesus after his own baptismwas at prayer, heaven opened	21 Когда же крестился весь народ, и Иисус, крестившись, молился: отверзлось небо,
22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical form, like a dove. And a voice came from heaven,'You are my Son; today have I fathered you.'	22 и Дух Святый нисшел на Него в телесном виде, как голубь, и был глас с небес, глаголющий: Ты Сын Мой Возлюбленный; в Тебе Мое благоволение!
23 When he began, Jesus was about thirty years old, being the son, as it was thought, of Joseph son ofHeli,	23 Иисус, начиная [Своё служение], был лет тридцати, и был, как думали, Сын Иосифов, Илиев,
