Jeremiah 4

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 'If you come back, Israel, Yahweh declares, if you come back to me, if you take your Horrors out of mysight, if you go roving no more,	1 Se tu, Israel, voltares, diz o Senhor, converter-te-ás a mim; se tirares de diante da minha face os teus horrores, não mais andarás errante.
2 if you swear, "As Yahweh lives!" truthful y, justly, uprightly, then the nations wil bless themselves by him and glory in him.	2 Se jurares pela vida do Senhor, em verdade, com retidão e justiça, nele serão abençoados os povos e nele se gloriarão.
3 'For Yahweh says this to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Clear the ground that lies neglected, do notsow among thorns.	3 Porque isto diz o Senhor às gentes de Judá e de Jerusalém: Arroteai o vosso pousio; não semeeis sobre espinhos.
4 Circumcise yourselves for Yahweh, apply circumcision to your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants ofJerusalem, or my wrath wil leap out like a fire and burn with no one to quench it, in return for the wickedness ofyour deeds." '	4 Circuncidai-vos para o Senhor, tirai os prepúcios de vossos corações, varões de Judá habitantes de Jerusalém, para que não suceda que, de repente, saia como fogo a minha indignação e abrase, e não haja quem a apague, por causa da maldade das vossas obras.
5 Announce it in Judah, proclaim it in Jerusalem, say, 'Sound the trumpet in the countryside, shout themessage aloud: Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns!	5 Anunciai em Judá, fazei ouvir em Jerusalém; publicai ao som de trombeta por (todo) o país; gritai em alta voz e dizei: Juntai-vos todos, entremos nas cidades fortificadas;
6 Signpost the way to Zion! Run! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, an immensecalamity.	6 levantai o estandarte na direção de Sião, procurai abrigo, não estejais parados, porque eu farei vir do Aquilão uma desgraça; uma grande calamidade.
7 The lion is up from his thicket, the destroyer of nations is on his way, he has come from his home toreduce your land to a desert; your towns wil be in ruins, uninhabited.	7 Saiu o leão do seu covil, pôs-se a caminho o destruidor das gentes; saiu do seu país, para reduzir a tua terra a um deserto; as tuas cidades serão destruídas, sem que nelas fique habitante algum.
8 So wrap yourselves in sackcloth, lament and wail, since Yahweh's burning anger has not turned awayfrom us.	8 Por isso cobri-vos de cilício, chorai e pranteai, porque não se apartou de nós o ardente furor do Senhor.
9 'That day,' Yahweh declares, 'the king's heart will fail him, the princes' hearts wil fail them too, thepriests wil stand aghast, the prophets stupefied.'	9 Acontecerá isto naquele dia, diz o Senhor: Desfalecerá o coração do rei, desfalecerá o coração dos chefes; pasmarão os sacerdotes, e os profetas ficarão estupefactos.
10 Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, how sadly you deceived this people and Jerusalem when you used tosay, "You wil have peace," whereas the sword is now at our throats!	10 Dir-se-á (ao ouvir isto): Ai! Senhor Deus! Verdadeiramente enganaste este povo e Jerusalém, dizendo-lhes: Vós tereis paz quando agora chega a espada (do inimigo) até ao coração.
11 When that time comes, this wil be said to this people and to Jerusalem: The scorching wind from thedesert heights comes towards the daughter of my people -and not to winnow or to cleanse!	11 Naquele tempo dir-se-á a este povo e a Jerusalém: Um vento abrasador sopra das colinas do deserto sobre os caminhos que conduzem à filha do meu povo, não para aventar ou limpar (o grão, mas para queimar as plantas).
12 A gale of wind comes to me from over there. Now I myself shal pass sentence on them!'	12 Daquele lado chega, às minhas ordens, um vento impetuoso; agora pronunciarei os meus juízos contra eles.
13 Look, he is advancing like the clouds, his chariots like a hurricane, his horses swifter than eagles.Disaster for us! We are lost!	13 Eis que (o exército inimigo) vem como uma nuvem, como uma tempestade os seus carros, mais velozes que águias os seus cavalos. Ai de nós (dirão), porque somos destruídos.
14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long wil you go onharbouring your pernicious thoughts?	14 Lava, ó Jerusalém, o teu coração de toda a maldade, para que sejas salva. Até quando permanecerão em ti pensamentos pecaminosos?
15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.	15 Já se escuta uma voz vinda de Dan, a dar o alarme, a notícia da calamidade vem do monte de Efraim.
16 Report it to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem, 'Enemies are coming from a distant country, shoutingtheir war cry against the towns of Judah;	16 Dizei às nações: Eis que se ouviu dizer em Jerusalém que vem gente de guerra de uma terra remota, que faz ouvir os seus gritos contra as cidades de Judá.
17 they surround her like watchmen round a field because she has rebel ed against me', Yahwehdeclares.	17 Estão (dia e noite) ao redor dela como guardas de campos, porque ela se revoltou contra mim, diz o Senhor.
18 'Your own behaviour and actions have brought this on yourself. Your wickedness, how bitter, hasstabbed you to the heart!'	18 Os teus caminhos e os teus pensamentos te trouxeram (ó Jerusalém) estas coisas; eis (o fruto da) tua malícia! Quão amargo é! Chega ao coração!
19 In the pit of my stomach how great my agony! Walls of my heart! My heart is throbbing! I cannot keepquiet, for I have heard the trumpet call, the battle cry.	19 Minhas entranhas! Minhas entranhas! Sinto dor! O meu coração tumultua! Não me calarei, porque a minha alma ouviu a voz da trombeta, um alarido de batalha.
20 Ruin on ruin is the news: the whole land is laid waste, my tents are suddenly destroyed, in one momental that sheltered me.	20 Anuncia-se desastre sobre desastre; foi assolada toda a terra. De improviso foram derrubadas as minhas tendas, os meus pavilhões abatidos.
21 How long must I see the standard and hear the trumpet cal ?	21 Até quando verei o estandarte (inimigo) e ouvirei a voz da trombeta (inimiga)?
22 'This is because my people are stupid, they do not know me, they are slow-witted children, they haveno understanding, they are clever enough at doing wrong, but do not know how to do right.'	22 O meu povo é néscio, (diz o Senhor) não me conhece! Filhos insensatos são, sem inteligência: são sábios para fazer o mal, mas não sabem fazer o bem.
23 I looked to the earth -- it was a formless waste; to the heavens, and their light had gone.	23 Olhei para a terra, e eis que estava informe e vazia; para os céus, e não havia neles luz,
24 I looked to the mountains -- they were quaking and al the hil s rocking to and fro.	24 Vi as montanhas, e elas tremiam, e todos os outeiros estremeciam.
25 I looked -- there was no one at all, the very birds of heaven had al fled.	25 Olhei e não havia homens, e todas as aves do céu tinham fugido.
26 I looked -- the fruitful land was a desert, all its towns in ruins before Yahweh, before his burning anger.	26 Olhei, e (vi que) o vergel se tornara um deserto e todas as suas cidades haviam sido destruídas na presença do Senhor, ao sopro da sua cólera.
27 Yes, Yahweh has said this, 'The whole country wil be laid waste, though I shall not annihilate itcompletely.	27 Eis, pois, o que diz o Senhor: Deserta ficará toda a terra (de Judá), porém não a destruirei de todo.
28 For this, the earth wil go into mourning and the heavens above grow dark. For I have spoken, I havedecided, I shal not change my mind or go back on it.'	28 Chorará a terra e entristecer-se-ão os céus, lá em cima, porque decretei, resolvi, e não me arrependo, não desistirei.
29 At the din of horseman and archer the entire city takes to flight: some plunge into the thickets, othersscale the rocks; every town is abandoned, not a single person is left there.	29 À voz do cavaleiro e do que despede a seta, fugiu toda a cidade; correram a esconder-se nos bosques, subiram pelos rochedos; todas as cidades foram desamparadas, sem que ficasse nelas um só habitante.
30 And, once despoiled, what are you going to do? You may dress yourself in scarlet, put on ornaments ofgold, enlarge your eyes with paint but you make yourself pretty in vain. Your former lovers disdain you, your lifeis what they are seeking.	30 E tu, desolada, que farás (ó Jerusalém)? Por mais que te vistas de púrpura, te adornes de enfeites de oiro, e alargues os teus olhos com pinturas, em vão te embelezarás: os teus amantes desprezam-te, querem tirar-te a vida.
31 Yes, I hear screams like those of a woman in labour, anguish like that of a woman giving birth to herfirst child; they are the screams of the daughter of Zion, gasping, hands outstretched, 'Unhappy me! I am dying,the murderers have kil ed me!'	31 Ouço uma voz como de mulher que está de parto, angústias como de puérpera: é a voz da filha de Sião, que grita, estendendo as suas mãos (e dizendo): Ai de mim, que desfalece a minha alma diante dos assassinos.
