Proverbs 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Listen, my children, to a father's instruction; pay attention, and learn what understanding is.	1 Udite, figliuoli, l' ammaestramento del padre, e attendete che voi siate prudenti.
2 What I am offering you is sound doctrine: do not forsake my teaching.	2 Io vi darò uno buono dono; e non lasciate la legge mia.
3 I too was once a child with a father, in my mother's eyes a tender child, unique.	3 Per che anco io fui figliuolo di mio padre, fanciullo; e fui unigenito nel conspetto di mia madre.
4 This was what he used to teach me, 'Let your heart treasure what I have to say, keep my principles andyou wil live;	4 E insegnavami, e dicea: riceva il cor tuo le mie parole, e osserva i miei comandamenti, e viverai.
5 acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, never forget her, never deviate from my words.	5 Acquista sapienza, acquista prudenza; e non ti dimenticare, nè anco non ti partire dalle mie parole.
6 Do not desert her, she will keep you safe; love her, she wil watch over you.	6 Non lasciar la sapienza, per che sarai custodito da quella; amala, e lei ti salverà.
7 The first principle of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; at the cost of all you have, acquire understanding!	7 Il principio della sapienza è acquistar scienza; e sopra tutte le tue cose temporali cerca di acquistar prudenza.
8 Hold her close, and she wil make you great; embrace her, and she wil be your pride;	8 Pigliala, e lei ti esalterà; e da lei sarai glorificato, quando tu l'averai abbracciata.
9 she will provide a graceful garland for your head, bestow a crown of honour on you.'	9 Darà al tuo capo augumenti di (molte) grazie, e difenderatti come corona inclita.
10 Listen, my child, take my words to heart, and the years of your life wil be multiplied.	10 Audi, figliuolo mio, e ricevi le mie parole, acciò che gli anni della vita tua ti siano multiplicati.
11 I have educated you in the ways of wisdom, I have guided you along the path of honesty.	11 Io ti dimostrerò la via della sapienza, e condurrò te per la via della equità.
12 When you walk, your going wil be unhindered, if you run, you wil not stumble.	12 Le quali quando tu vi sarai entrato, i tuoi andamenti non ti saranno costretti, e correndo non trovarai impedimento.
13 Hold fast to discipline, never let her go, keep your eyes on her, she is your life.	13 Tieni questo ammaestramento, e non lo lasciare; osservalo, per che questo è la via tua.
14 Do not fol ow the path of the wicked, do not walk the way that the evil go.	14 Non ti dilettare nelle vie degli empii, nè ti piaccia la via de' cattivi.
15 Avoid it, do not take it, turn your back on it, pass it by.	15 Fuggi la via loro, e non passar per quella; descendi e abbandona quella.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they have first done wrong, they miss their sleep if they have not madesomeone stumble;	16 Per che non dormono mai, se prima non hanno fatto alcuno male; non si riducono mai per dormire, se prima non hanno ingannato alcuno.
17 for the bread of wickedness is what they eat, and the wine of violence is what they drink.	17 Mangiano il pane della empietade, e bevono il vino della iniquità.
18 The path of the upright is like the light of dawn, its brightness growing to the ful ness of day;	18 La via degli uomini giusti, come luce splendente, procede e cresce per fino che il dì è perfetto.
19 the way of the wicked is as dark as night, they cannot tel the obstacles they stumble over.	19 La via degli empii è oscura; e non sanno dove si debbino periculare.
20 My child, pay attention to what I am telling you, listen careful y to my words;	20 Figliuolo mio, ascolta i miei parlamenti; e a' miei eleganti ragionamenti inclina le tue orecchie.
21 do not let them out of your sight, keep them deep in your heart.	21 Fa che non si partino da te; custodili nel mezzo del tuo cuore.
22 For they are life to those who find them and health to al humanity.	22 Questi sono vita a quelli che li trovano, e a ogni uomo sanità.
23 More than al else, keep watch over your heart, since here are the wel springs of life.	23 Con ogni diligenza custodi il cuor tuo, per che da lui procede la (tua) vita.
24 Turn your back on the mouth that misleads, keep your distance from lips that deceive.	24 Rimovi da te il parlar pravo, e fa che le labbra tua siano aliene dalle detrazioni.
25 Let your eyes be fixed ahead, your gaze be straight before you.	25 Gli occhi tuoi vedano le operazioni rette, e le tue palpebre precedano a' tuoi andamenti.
26 Let the path you tread be level and al your ways be firm.	26 Drizza le vie agli tuoi piedi; e tutte le vie tue saranno stabilite.
27 Turn neither to right nor to left, keep your foot clear of evil.	27 Non declinar alla destra nè alla sinistra; fa che le tue operazioni non sian male: per che le vie vie che sono alla parte destra, le ha conosciute il Signore; le perverse sono quelle che sono alla parte sinistra. Ma il Signore farà retti i tuoi andamenti, e le tue operazioni produrrà in pace.
