Deuteronomy 11

1 "Love the LORD, your God, therefore, and always heed his charge: his statutes, decrees and commandments.	1 Aimez donc le Seigneur votre Dieu, et gardez en tout temps Ses préceptes et Ses cérémonies, Ses lois et Ses ordonnances.
2 It is not your children, who have not known it from experience, but you yourselves who must now understand the discipline of the LORD, your God; his majesty, his strong hand and outstretched arm;	2 Reconnaissez aujourd'hui ce que vos enfants ignorent, eux qui n'ont point vu les châtiments du Seigneur votre Dieu, Ses merveilles, et les effets de Sa main toute-puissante et de la force de Son bras,
3 the signs and deeds he wrought among the Egyptians, on Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and on all his land;	3 les miracles et les oeuvres qu'Il a accomplis au milieu de l'Egypte sur le roi pharaon et sur tout son pays,
4 what he did to the Egyptian army and to their horses and chariots, engulfing them in the water of the Red Sea as they pursued you, and bringing ruin upon them even to this day;	4 sur toute l'armée des Egyptiens, sur leurs chevaux et leurs chariots; de quelle manière les eaux de la mer Rouge les ont enveloppés lorsqu'ils vous poursuivaient, le Seigneur les ayant exterminés, comme on le voit encore aujourd'hui.
5 what he did for you in the desert until you arrived in this place;	5 Souvenez-vous aussi de tout ce qu'Il a fait à votre égard dans ce désert, jusqu'à ce que vous soyez arrivés en ce lieu-ci;
6 and what he did to the Reubenites Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, when the ground opened its mouth and swallowed them up out of the midst of Israel, with their families and tents and every living thing that belonged to them.	6 et comment il punit Dathan et Abiron, fils d'Eliab, qui était fils de Ruben, la terre s'étant entr'ouverte et les ayant engloutis avec leurs maisons, leurs tentes, et tout ce qu'ils possédaient au milieu d'Israël.
7 With your own eyes you have seen all these great deeds that the LORD has done.	7 Vous avez vu de vos yeux toutes ces oeuvres merveilleuses que le Seigneur a faites,
8 Keep all the commandments, then, which I enjoin on you today, that you may be strong enough to enter in and take possession of the land into which you are crossing,	8 afin que vous gardiez tous Ses préceptes que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, que vous puissiez vous mettre en possession de la terre dans laquelle vous allez entrer,
9 and that you may have long life on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.	9 et que vous viviez longtemps en cette terre où coulent des ruisseaux de lait et de miel, et que le Seigneur avait promise avec serment à vos pères et à leur postérité.
10 "For the land which you are to enter and occupy is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you would sow your seed and then water it by hand, as in a vegetable garden.	10 Car la terre dont vous allez entrer en possession n'est pas comme la terre d'Egypte d'où vous êtes sortis, où, après qu'on a jeté la semence, on fait venir l'eau par les canaux pour l'arroser, comme on fait dans les jardins;
11 No, the land into which you are crossing for conquest is a land of hills and valleys that drinks in rain from the heavens,	11 mais c'est une terre de montagnes et de plaines, qui attend les pluies du ciel:
12 a land which the LORD, your God, looks after; his eyes are upon it continually from the beginning of the year to the end.	12 le Seigneur votre Dieu l'a toujours visitée, et Il jette sur elle des regards favorables depuis le commencement de l'année jusqu'à la fin.
13 If, then, you truly heed my commandments which I enjoin on you today, loving and serving the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,	13 Si donc vous obéissez aux commandements que je vous fais aujourd'hui d'aimer le Seigneur votre Dieu, et de Le servir de tout votre coeur et de toute votre âme,
14 I will give the seasonal rain to your land, the early rain and the late rain, that you may have your grain, wine and oil to gather in;	14 Il donnera à votre terre les premières et les dernières pluies, afin que vous recueilliez de vos champs le froment, le vin et l'huile,
15 and I will bring forth grass in your fields for your animals. Thus you may eat your fill.	15 et du foin pour nourrir vos bêtes, et que vous ayez vous-mêmes de quoi manger et vous rassasier.
16 But be careful lest your heart be so lured away that you serve other gods and worship them.	16 Prenez bien garde que votre coeur ne se laisse pas séduire, et que vous n'abandonniez pas le Seigneur pour servir et adorer des dieux étrangers;
17 For then the wrath of the LORD will flare up against you and he will close up the heavens, so that no rain will fall, and the soil will not yield its crops, and you will soon perish from the good land he is giving you.	17 de peur que le Seigneur, irrité, ne ferme le ciel, que les pluies ne tombent plus, que la terre ne produise plus son fruit, et que vous ne soyez exterminés en peu de temps de cette terre excellente que le Seigneur va vous donner.
18 "Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead.	18 Gravez ces paroles que je vous dis dans vos coeurs et dans vos esprits, tenez-les suspendues comme un signe dans vos mains, et placez-les entre vos yeux;
19 Teach them to your children, speaking of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest.	19 apprenez-les à vos enfants, afin qu'ils les méditent; instruisez-les lorsque vous êtes assis en votre maison, ou que vous marchez, lorsque vous vous couchez, ou que vous vous levez.
20 And write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,	20 Ecrivez-les sur les poteaux et sur les portes de votre maison;
21 so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give them.	21 afin que vos jours et ceux de vos enfants se multiplient dans la terre que le Seigneur a promis avec serment de donner à vos pères, pour la posséder aussi longtemps que le ciel couvrira la terre.
22 "For if you are careful to observe all these commandments I enjoin on you, loving the LORD, your God, and following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,	22 Car si vous observez et si vous pratiquez les commandements que je vous prescris, d'aimer le Seigneur votre Dieu, de marcher dans toutes Ses voies, et de demeurer très étroitement unis à Lui;
23 the LORD will drive all these nations out of your way, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.	23 le Seigneur exterminera sous vos yeux toutes ces nations qui sont plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous, et vous posséderez leur pays.
24 Every place where you set foot shall be yours: from the desert and from Lebanon, from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea, shall be your territory.	24 Tout lieu où vous aurez mis le pied sera à vous. Les confins de votre pays seront depuis le désert, depuis le Liban, depuis le grand fleuve d'Euphrate, jusqu'à la mer occidentale.
25 None shall stand up against you; the LORD, your God, will spread the fear and dread of you through any land where you set foot, as he promised you.	25 Nul ne pourra subsister devant vous. Le Seigneur votre Dieu répandra la terreur et l'effroi de votre nom sur toute la terre où vous devez mettre le pied, selon qu'Il vous l'a promis.
26 "I set before you here, this day, a blessing and a curse:	26 Vous voyez que je mets aujourd'hui sous vos yeux la bénédiction et la malédiction:
27 a blessing for obeying the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin on you today;	27 la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements du Seigneur votre Dieu, que je vous prescris aujourd'hui;
28 a curse if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, but turn aside from the way I ordain for you today, to follow other gods, whom you have not known.	28 et la malédiction, si vous n'obéissez point aux ordonnances du Seigneur votre Dieu, et si vous vous retirez de la voie que je vous montre maintenant, pour courir après des dieux étrangers que vous ne connaissez pas.
29 When the LORD, your God, brings you into the land which you are to enter and occupy, then you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim, the curse on Mount Ebal.	29 Et lorsque le Seigneur votre Dieu vous aura fait entrer dans la terre que vous allez habiter, vous mettrez la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim, et la malédiction sur le mont Hébal,
30 (Are they not beyond the Jordan, on the other side of the western road in the country of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite the Gilgal beside the terebinth of Moreh?)	30 montagnes situées au delà du Jourdain, à côté du chemin qui mène vers l'occident, dans le pays des Chananéens qui habitent les plaines opposées à Galgala, près d'une vallée qui s'étend et s'avance bien loin.
31 For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and occupy the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you. When, therefore, you take possession of it and settle there,	31 Car vous passerez le Jourdain pour posséder la terre que le Seigneur votre Dieu doit vous donner, afin que vous en soyez les maîtres et qu'elle soit votre héritage.
32 be careful to observe all the statutes and decrees that I set before you today.	32 Prenez donc bien garde d'accomplir les cérémonies et les ordonnances que je vous proposerai aujourd'hui.
