1 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,	1 - Allora si accostarono a Gesù gli Scribi e i Farisei, venuti da Gerusalemme, e gli chiesero:
2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash (their) hands when they eat a meal."	2 «Per qual motivo, i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono le tradizioni degli antichi? Infatti essi non si lavano le mani quando mangiano il pane».
3 He said to them in reply, "And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?	3 Ma egli rispose loro: «Perchè anche voi trasgredite il comandamento di Dio per amore della vostra tradizione? Dio, infatti, ha detto:
4 For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'Whoever curses father or mother shall die.'	4 - Onora il padre e la madre. Chi maledice il padre o la madre sia punito di morte. -
5 But you say, 'Whoever says to father or mother, "Any support you might have had from me is dedicated to God,"	5 Voi invece dite: - chiunque dice al padre o alla madre: " Quello con cui potrei aiutarti sia un'offerta! " -
6 need not honor his father.' You have nullified the word of God for the sake of your tradition.	6 non ha più bisogno di onorare suo padre o sua madre. E così rendete nullo il comandamento di Dio in grazia della vostra tradizione.
7 Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy about you when he said:	7 Ipocriti, Isaia ha profetato bene di voi quando disse:
8 'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;	8 - Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il suo cuore è lontano da me;
9 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.'"	9 invano mi onorano insegnando dottrine e comandi che emanano da uomini -».
10 He summoned the crowd and said to them, "Hear and understand.	10 Poi chiamata a sè la folla disse: «Ascoltate e intendete.
11 It is not what enters one's mouth that defiles that person; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one."	11 Non quel che entra nella bocca contamina l'uomo, ma quello che esce dalla bocca, questo contamina l'uomo!».
12 Then his disciples approached and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?"	12 Allora i suoi discepoli accostandosi a lui, gli dissero: «Sai tu che i Farisei, udendo questo discorso si sono scandalizzati?».
13 He said in reply, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.	13 Egli rispose: «Ogni pianta, non piantata dal Padre mio celeste, sarà sradicata.
14 Let them alone; they are blind guides (of the blind). If a blind person leads a blind person, both will fall into a pit."	14 Lasciateli; sono ciechi che guidano dei ciechi: ora se un cieco guida un altro cieco, tutt'e due cadranno nella fossa».
15 Then Peter said to him in reply, "Explain (this) parable to us."	15 Pietro allora prese a dirgli: «Spiegaci questa parabola».
16 He said to them, "Are even you still without understanding?	16 E Gesù rispose: «Siete anche voi privi d'intelletto?
17 Do you not realize that everything that enters the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled into the latrine?	17 Non capite che tutto ciò che entra nella bocca passa nel ventre e poi viene espulso nel recesso?
18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile.	18 Invece quello che esce dalla bocca viene dal cuore ed è quello che contamina l'uomo.
19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy.	19 Dal cuore, infatti, vengono i cattivi pensieri, gli omicidii, gli adulterii, le fornicazioni, i furti, le false testimonianze, le bestemmie.
20 These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile."	20 Queste son le cose che contaminano l'uomo; ma il mangiare senza lavarsi le mani non contamina l'uomo».
21 Then Jesus went from that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Gesù, lasciato quel paese, riparò dalle parti di Tiro e Sidone.
22 And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, "Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon."	22 Ed ecco una donna Cananea, di quei paraggi, venne fuori, gridando a voce alta: «Abbi pietà di me, Signore, figlio di David; mia figlia è crudelmente tormentata dal demonio».
23 But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him, "Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us."	23 Gesù non le rispose parola. Allora i suoi discepoli, accostatisi, lo pregavan dicendogli: «Mandala via perchè ci vien dietro gridando».
24 He said in reply, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."	24 Egli rispose: «Io non sono stato mandato che alle pecore perdute della casa d'Israele».
25 But the woman came and did him homage, saying, "Lord, help me."	25 Ma essa venne a prostrarsi dinanzi a lui dicendo: «Signore, aiutami!».
26 He said in reply, "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs."	26 Egli rispose: «Non è buona cosa prendere il pane dei figliuoli per gettarlo ai cagnolini».
27 She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters."	27 Ed essa: «Dici bene, Signore; ma anche i cagnolini mangian le briciole che cascan dalla mensa dei padroni».
28 Then Jesus said to her in reply, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that hour.	28 Allora Gesù le disse: «Donna, la tua fede è grande; sia fatto come tu vuoi». E in quel momento la sua figliuola fu guarita.
29 Moving on from there Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain, and sat down there.	29 Gesù abbandonò quei luoghi e venne presso il mare di Galilea; e salito sopra il monte si pose a sedere.
30 Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them.	30 Subito gli si accostaron molte turbe, che avevano con sè muti, ciechi, zoppi, storpi e molti altri malati e li deposero davanti a lui; ed egli li guarì;
31 The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.	31 tanto che la folla restò meravigliata vedendo i muti parlare, gli zoppi camminare, i ciechi vedere; ed essa ne dava gloria al Dio d'Israele.
32 Jesus summoned his disciples and said, "My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way."	32 Gesù chiamati i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «Ho compassione di questo popolo, che già da tre giorni sta con me e non ha nulla da mangiare; nè io voglio rimandarli digiuni per tema che le loro forze abbiano a venir meno lungo il cammino».
33 The disciples said to him, "Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?"	33 I discepoli gli osservarono: «Dove trovare in un deserto tanti pani che bastino a saziare così gran folla?».
34 Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied, "and a few fish."	34 Gesù domandò loro: «Quanti pani avete?». «Sette» risposero «e pochi pesciolini».
35 He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.	35 Allora comandò alla folla di mettersi a sedere per terra;
36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds.	36 prese i sette pani e i pesci e dopo aver rese grazie, li spezzò e li diede a' suoi discepoli e questi al popolo.
37 They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over--seven baskets full.	37 E mangiarono tutti e ne furono sazi; e portaron via sette ceste piene colme dei bocconi avanzati.
38 Those who ate were four thousand men, not counting women and children.	38 Quelli che avevano mangiato eran quattromila persone, senza contare le donne e i fanciulli.
39 And when he had dismissed the crowds, he got into the boat and came to the district of Magadan.	39 Poi salutate le turbe, Gesù entrò nella barca e venne nel paese di Magedan.
