NEW AMERICAN BIBLEKING JAMES BIBLE
Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!1 Have mercy upon us, O Lord God of all, and behold us:
Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.2 And send thy fear upon all the nations that seek not after thee.
As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.3 Lift up thy hand against the strange nations, and let them see thy power.
Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.4 As thou wast sanctified in us before them: so be thou magnified among them before us.
Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;5 And let them know thee, as we have known thee, that there is no God but only thou, O God.
Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.6 Shew new signs, and make other strange wonders: glorify thy hand and thy right arm, that they may set forth thy wondrous works.
Hasten the day, bring on the time;7 Raise up indignation, and pour out wrath: take away the adversary, and destroy the enemy.
Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.8 Sake the time short, remember the covenant, and let them declare thy wonderful works.
crush the heads of the hostile rulers.9 Let him that escapeth be consumed by the rage of the fire; and let them perish that oppress the people.
Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,10 Smite in sunder the heads of the rulers of the heathen, that say, There is none other but we.
Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you named your first-born.11 Gather all the tribes of Jacob together, and inherit thou them, as from the beginning.
Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.12 O Lord, have mercy upon the people that is called by thy name, and upon Israel, whom thou hast named thy firstborn.
Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.13 O be merciful unto Jerusalem, thy holy city, the place of thy rest.
Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,14 Fill Sion with thine unspeakable oracles, and thy people with thy glory:
Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.15 Give testimony unto those that thou hast possessed from the beginning, and raise up prophets that have been in thy name.
Hear the prayer of your servants, for you are ever gracious to your people;16 Reward them that wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found faithful.
Thus it will be known to the very ends of the earth that you are the eternal God.17 O Lord, hear the prayer of thy servants, according to the blessing of Aaron over thy people, that all they which dwell upon the earth may know that thou art the Lord, the eternal God.
The throat can swallow any food, yet some foods are more agreeable than others;18 The belly devoureth all meats, yet is one meat better than another.
As the palate tests meat by its savor, so does a keen mind insincere words.19 As the palate tasteth divers kinds of venison: so doth an heart of understanding false speeches.
A deceitful character causes grief, but an experienced man can turn the tables on him.20 A froward heart causeth heaviness: but a man of experience will recompense him.
Though any man may be accepted as a husband, yet one girl will be more suitable than another:21 A woman will receive every man, yet is one daughter better than another.
A woman's beauty makes her husband's face light up, for it surpasses all else that charms the eye;22 The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance, and a man loveth nothing better.
And if, besides, her speech is kindly, his lot is beyond that of mortal men.23 If there be kindness, meekness, and comfort, in her tongue, then is not her husband like other men.
A wife is her husband's richest treasure, a helpmate, a steadying column.24 He that getteth a wife beginneth a possession, a help like unto himself, and a pillar of rest.
A vineyard with no hedge will be overrun; a man with no wife becomes a homeless wanderer.25 Where no hedge is, there the possession is spoiled: and he that hath no wife will wander up and down mourning.
Who will trust an armed band that shifts from city to city?26 Who will trust a thief well appointed, that skippeth from city to city? so [who will believe] a man that hath no house, and lodgeth wheresoever the night taketh him?
Or a man who has no nest, but lodges where night overtakes him?27 []
