Proverbs 25

1 These also are proverbs of Solomon. The men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transmitted them.	1 Ainda alguns provérbios de Salomão, recolhidos pelos homens de Ezequias, rei de Judá.
2 God has glory in what he conceals, kings have glory in what they fathom.	2 A glória de Deus é ocultar uma coisa; a glória dos reis é esquadrinhá-la.
3 As the heavens in height, and the earth in depth, the heart of kings is unfathomable.	3 A altura dos céus, a profundeza da terra são impenetráveis, bem como o coração dos reis.
4 Remove the dross from silver, and it comes forth perfectly purified;	4 Tira as escórias da prata e terás um vaso para o ourives;
5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne is made firm through righteousness.	5 afasta o mau de presença do rei e seu trono se firmará na justiça.
6 Claim no honor in the king's presence, nor occupy the place of great men;	6 Não te faças de pretensioso diante do rei, não te ponhas no lugar dos grandes.
7 For it is better that you be told, "Come up closer!" than that you be humbled before the prince.	7 É melhor que te digam: Sobe aqui!, do que seres humilhado diante de um personagem. O que teus olhos viram,
8 What your eyes have seen bring not forth hastily against an opponent; For what will you do later on when your neighbor puts you to shame?	8 não o descubras com precipitação numa contenda, pois, no final das contas, que farás tu quando o outro te houver confundido?
9 Discuss your case with your neighbor, but another man's secret do not disclose;	9 Trata teu negócio com teu próximo de maneira a não revelar o segredo de outro,
10 Lest, hearing it, he reproach you, and your ill repute cease not.	10 para que não sejas repreendido por aquele que o ouviu nem incorras em descrédito irreparável.
11 Like golden apples in silver settings are words spoken at the proper time.	11 Maçãs de ouro sobre prata gravada: tais são as palavras oportunas.
12 Like a golden earring, or a necklace of fine gold, is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.	12 Anel de ouro, jóia de ouro fino: tal é o sábio que admoesta um ouvido atento.
13 Like the coolness of snow in the heat of the harvest is a faithful messenger for the one who sends him. (He refreshes the soul of his master.)	13 Frescor de neve no tempo da colheita, tal é um mensageiro fiel para quem o envia: ele restaura a alma de seu senhor.
14 Like clouds and wind when no rain follows is the man who boastfully promises what he never gives.	14 Nuvens e vento sem chuva: tal é o homem que se gaba falsamente de dar.
15 By patience is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.	15 Pela paciência o juiz se deixa aplacar: a língua que fala com brandura pode quebrantar ossos.
16 If you find honey, eat only what you need, lest you become glutted with it and vomit it up.	16 Achaste mel? Come o que for suficiente: se comeres demais, tu o vomitarás.
17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have more than enough of you, and hate you.	17 Põe raramente o pé na casa do vizinho: enfastiado de ti, ele te viria a aborrecer.
18 Like a club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow, is the man who bears false witness against his neighbor.	18 Clava, espada, flecha penetrante: tal é o que usa de falso testemunho contra seu próximo.
19 Like an infected tooth or an unsteady foot is (dependence on) a faithless man in time of trouble.	19 Dente arruinado, pé que resvala: tal é a confiança de um pérfido no dia da desventura.
20 Like a moth in clothing, or a maggot in wood, sorrow gnaws at the human heart.	20 Tirar a capa num dia de frio, derramar vinagre numa ferida: isso faz aquele que canta canções a um coração atribulado.
21 If your enemy be hungry, give him food to eat, if he be thirsty, give him to drink;	21 Tem o teu inimigo fome? Dá-lhe de comer. Tem sede? Dá-lhe de beber:
22 For live coals you will heap on his head, and the LORD will vindicate you.	22 assim amontoarás brasas ardentes sobre sua cabeça e o Senhor te recompensará.
23 The north wind brings rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.	23 O vento norte traz chuva e a língua detratora anuvia os semblantes.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.	24 É melhor habitar um canto do terraço do que viver com uma mulher impertinente.
25 Like cool water to one faint from thirst is good news from a far country.	25 Água fresca para uma garganta sedenta: tal é uma boa nova vinda de terra longínqua.
26 Like a troubled fountain or a polluted spring is a just man who gives way before the wicked.	26 Fonte turva e manancial contaminado: tal é o justo que cede diante do ímpio.
27 To eat too much honey is not good; nor to seek honor after honor.	27 Comer mel em demasia não é bom: usa de moderação nas palavras elogiosas.
28 Like an open city with no defenses is the man with no check on his feelings.	28 Como uma cidade desmantelada, sem muralhas: tal é o homem que não é senhor de si.
