Proverbs 14

1 Wisdom builds her house, but Folly tears hers down with her own hands.	1 A senhora Sabedoria edifica sua casa; a senhora Loucura destrói a sua com as próprias mãos.
2 He who walks uprightly fears the LORD, but he who is devious in his ways spurns him.	2 Quem caminha direito teme o Senhor; o que anda desviado o despreza.
3 In the mouth of the fool is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise preserve them.	3 A boca do néscio encerra a vara para seu orgulho, mas os lábios do sábio são uma proteção para si mesmo.
4 Where there are no oxen, the crib remains empty; but large crops come through the strength of the bull.	4 Onde não há bois, a manjedoura está vazia; a abundância da colheita provém da força do gado.
5 A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness utters lies.	5 A testemunha fiel não mente; a testemunha falsa profere falsidades.
6 The senseless man seeks in vain for wisdom, but knowledge is easy to the man of intelligence.	6 O mofador busca a sabedoria, mas em vão; ao homem entendido a ciência é fácil.
7 To avoid the foolish man, take steps! But knowing lips one meets with by surprise.	7 Afasta-te da presença do tolo: em seus lábios não encontrarás palavras sábias.
8 The shrewd man's wisdom gives him knowledge of his way, but the folly of fools is their deception.	8 A sabedoria do prudente está no cuidar do seu procedimento; a loucura dos insensatos consiste na fraude.
9 Guilt lodges in the tents of the arrogant, but favor in the house of the just.	9 O insensato zomba do pecado; a benevolência {de Deus} é para os homens retos.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness, and in its joy no one else shares.	10 O coração conhece suas próprias amarguras; o estranho não pode partilhar de sua alegria.
11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.	11 A habitação dos pérfidos será destruída, mas a tenda dos justos florescerá.
12 Sometimes a way seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death!	12 Há caminho que parece reto ao homem; seu fim, porém, é o caminho da morte.

17 The quick-tempered man makes a fool of himself, but the prudent man is at peace.	17 O homem violento comete loucura; o dissimulado atrai a si o ódio.
18 The adornment of simpletons is folly, but shrewd men gain the crown of knowledge.	18 Os ingênuos têm por herança a loucura; os prudentes, a ciência como coroa.
19 Evil men must bow down before the good, and the wicked, at the gates of the just.	19 Diante dos bons humilham-se os maus e os ímpios ante as portas do justo.
20 Even by his neighbor the poor man is hated, but the friends of the rich are many.	20 Até mesmo ao seu companheiro o pobre é odioso; numerosos são os amigos do rico.
21 He sins who despises the hungry; but happy is he who is kind to the poor!	21 Quem despreza seu próximo comete um pecado; feliz aquele que tem compaixão dos desgraçados.
22 Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those intent on good gain kindness and constancy.	22 Porventura não erram os que maquinam o mal? Os que planejam o bem adquirem favor e verdade.
23 In all labor there is profit, but mere talk tends only to penury.	23 Para todo esforço há fruto, muito palavrório só produz penúria.
24 The crown of the wise is resourcefulness; the diadem of fools is folly.	24 Para o sábio a riqueza é uma coroa. A loucura dos insensatos permanece loucura.
25 The truthful witness saves lives, but he who utters lies is a betrayer.	25 A testemunha fiel salva vidas; o que profere mentiras é falso.
26 In the fear of the LORD is a strong defense; even for one's children he will be a refuge.	26 No temor do Senhor {o justo} encontra apoio sólido; seus filhos nele encontrarão abrigo.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.	27 O temor do Senhor é uma fonte de vida para escapar aos laços da morte.
28 In many subjects lies the glory of the king; but if his people are few, it is the prince's ruin.	28 A multidão do povo é a glória de um rei; a falta de população é a ruína de um príncipe.
29 The patient man shows much good sense, but the quick-tempered man displays folly at its height.	29 O paciente dá prova de bom senso; quem se arrebata rapidamente manifesta sua loucura.
30 A tranquil mind gives life to the body, but jealousy rots the bones.	30 Um coração tranqüilo é a vida do corpo, enquanto a inveja é a cárie dos ossos.
31 He who oppresses the poor blasphemes his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy glorifies him.	31 O opressor do pobre ultraja seu criador, mas honra-o o que se compadece do indigente.

35 The king favors the intelligent servant, but the worthless one incurs his wrath.	35 O servidor inteligente goza do favor do rei, mas a sua ira fere o desonrado.
