1 David built houses for himself in the City of David and prepared a place for the ark of God, pitching a tent for it there.	1 Fecit quoque sibi domos in civitate David : et ædificavit locum arcæ Dei, tetenditque ei tabernaculum.
2 At that time he said, "No one may carry the ark of God except the Levites, for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister to him forever."	2 Tunc dixit David : Illicitum est ut a quocumque portetur arca Dei nisi a Levitis, quos elegit Dominus ad portandum eam, et ad ministrandum sibi usque in æternum.
3 Then David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring the ark of the LORD to the place which he had prepared for it.	3 Congregavitque universum Israël in Jerusalem, ut afferretur arca Dei in locum suum, quem præparaverat ei :
4 David also called together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:	4 necnon et filios Aaron, et Levitas.
5 of the sons of Kohath, Uriel, their chief, and one hundred and twenty of his brethren;	5 De filiis Caath, Uriel princeps fuit, et fratres ejus centum viginti.
6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah, their chief, and two hundred and twenty of his brethren;	6 De filiis Merari, Asaia princeps : et fratres ejus ducenti viginti.
7 of the sons of Gershon, Joel, their chief, and one hundred and thirty of his brethren;	7 De filiis Gersom, Joël princeps : et fratres ejus centum triginta.
8 of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah, their chief, and two hundred of his brethren;	8 De filiis Elisaphan, Semeias princeps : et fratres ejus ducenti.
9 of the sons of Hebron, Eliel, their chief, and eighty of his brethren;	9 De filiis Hebron, Eliel princeps : et fratres ejus octoginta.
10 of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab, their chief, and one hundred and twelve of his brethren.	10 De filiis Oziel, Aminadab princeps : et fratres ejus centum duodecim.
11 David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,	11 Vocavitque David Sadoc et Abiathar sacerdotes, et Levitas, Uriel, Asaiam, Joël, Semeiam, Eliel, et Aminadab :
12 and said to them: "You, the heads of the levitical families, must sanctify yourselves along with your brethren and bring the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.	12 et dixit ad eos : Vos, qui estis principes familiarum Leviticarum, sanctificamini cum fratribus vestris, et afferte arcam Domini Dei Israël ad locum qui ei præparatus est :
13 Because you were not with us the first time, the wrath of the LORD our God burst upon us, for we did not seek him aright."	13 ne ut a principio, quia non eratis præsentes, percussit nos Dominus ; sic et nunc fiat, illicitum quid nobis agentibus.
14 Accordingly, the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.	14 Sanctificati sunt ergo sacerdotes et Levitæ ut portarent arcam Domini Dei Israël.
15 The Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with poles, as Moses had ordained according to the word of the LORD.	15 Et tulerunt filii Levi arcam Dei, sicut præceperat Moyses juxta verbum Domini, humeris suis in vectibus.
16 David commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brethren as chanters, to play on musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals, to make a loud sound of rejoicing.	16 Dixitque David principibus Levitarum, ut constituerent de fratribus suis cantores in organis musicorum, nablis videlicet, et lyris, et cymbalis, ut resonaret in excelsis sonitus lætitiæ.
17 Therefore the Levites appointed Heman, son of Joel, and, among his brethren, Asaph, son of Berechiah; and among the sons of Merari, their brethren, Ethan, son of Kushaiah;	17 Constitueruntque Levitas : Heman filium Joël, et de fratribus ejus Asaph filium Barachiæ : de filiis vero Merari, fratribus eorum : Ethan filium Casaiæ.
18 and, together with these, their brethren of the second rank: the gatekeepers Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel.	18 Et cum eis fratres eorum : in secundo ordine, Zachariam, et Ben, et Jaziel, et Semiramoth, et Jahiel, et Ani, Eliab, et Banaiam, et Maasiam, et Mathathiam, et Eliphalu, et Maceniam, et Obededom, et Jehiel, janitores.
19 The chanters, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, sounded brass cymbals.	19 Porro cantores, Heman, Asaph, et Ethan, in cymbalis æneis concrepantes.
20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah played on harps set to "Alamoth."	20 Zacharias autem, et Oziel, et Semiramoth, et Jahiel, et Ani, et Eliab, et Maasias, et Banaias in nablis arcana cantabant.
21 But Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel led the chant on lyres set to "the eighth."	21 Porro Mathathias, et Eliphalu, et Macenias, et Obededom, et Jehiel, et Ozaziu, in citharis pro octava canebant epinicion.
22 Chenaniah was the chief of the Levites in the chanting; he directed the chanting, for he was skillful.	22 Chonenias autem princeps Levitarum, prophetiæ præerat, ad præcinendam melodiam : erat quippe valde sapiens.
23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers before the ark.	23 Et Barachias, et Elcana, janitores arcæ.
24 The priests, Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, sounded the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jeiel were also gatekeepers before the ark.	24 Porro Sebenias, et Josaphat, et Nathanaël, et Amasai, et Zacharias, et Banaias, et Eliezer sacerdotes, clangebant tubis coram arca Dei : et Obededom et Jehias erant janitores arcæ.
25 Thus David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with joy from the house of Obed-edom.	25 Igitur David, et omnes majores natu Israël, et tribuni, ierunt ad deportandam arcam fœderis Domini de domo Obededom cum lætitia.
26 While the Levites, with God's help, were bearing the ark of the covenant of the LORD, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed.	26 Cumque adjuvisset Deus Levitas qui portabant arcam fœderis Domini, immolabantur septem tauri, et septem arietes.
27 David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who carried the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah, the leader of the chant; David was also wearing a linen ephod.	27 Porro David erat indutus stola byssina, et universi Levitæ qui portabant arcam, cantoresque, et Chonenias princeps prophetiæ inter cantores : David autem etiam indutus erat ephod lineo.
28 Thus all Israel brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD with joyful shouting, to the sound of horns, trumpets, and cymbals, and the music of harps and lyres.	28 Universusque Israël deducebant arcam fœderis Domini in jubilo, et sonitu buccinæ, et tubis, et cymbalis, et nablis, et citharis concrepantes.
29 But as the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal, daughter of Saul, looked down from her window, and when she saw King David leaping and dancing, she despised him in her heart.	29 Cumque pervenisset arca fœderis Domini usque ad civitatem David, Michol filia Saul prospiciens per fenestram vidit regem David saltantem atque ludentem, et despexit eum in corde suo.
