1 Chronicles 15

1 David built houses for himself in the City of David and prepared a place for the ark of God, pitching a tent for it there.	1 Fecit quoque sibi domos in civitate David et praeparavit locum arcae Dei tetenditque ei tabernaculum.
2 At that time he said, "No one may carry the ark of God except the Levites, for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister to him forever."	2 Tunc dixit David: “ Illicitum est, ut a quocumque portetur arca Dei, nisi a Levitis, quos elegit Dominus ad portandum eam et ad ministrandum sibi usque in aeternum ”.
3 Then David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring the ark of the LORD to the place which he had prepared for it.	3 Congregavitque David universum Israel in Ierusalem, ut afferretur arca Domini in locum suum, quem praeparaverat ei;
4 David also called together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:	4 necnon et filios Aaron et Levitas.
5 of the sons of Kohath, Uriel, their chief, and one hundred and twenty of his brethren;	5 De filiis Caath Uriel princeps fuit et fratres eius centum viginti;
6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah, their chief, and two hundred and twenty of his brethren;	6 de filiis Merari Asaia princeps et fratres eius ducenti viginti;
7 of the sons of Gershon, Joel, their chief, and one hundred and thirty of his brethren;	7 de filiis Gerson Ioel princeps et fratres eius centum triginta;

11 David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,	11 Vocavitque David Sadoc et Abiathar sacerdotes et Levitas Uriel, Asaiam, Ioel, Semeiam, Eliel et Aminadab
12 and said to them: "You, the heads of the levitical families, must sanctify yourselves along with your brethren and bring the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.	12 et dixit ad eos: “ Vos, qui estis principes familiarum Leviticarum, sanctificamini cum fratribus vestris et afferte arcam Domini, Dei Israel, ad locum, quem praeparavi.
13 Because you were not with us the first time, the wrath of the LORD our God burst upon us, for we did not seek him aright."	13 Quia a principio non eratis praesentes, fecit Dominus, Deus Israel, diruptionem in nobis; non enim quaesivimus eum, sicut fas erat ”.
14 Accordingly, the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.	14 Sanctificati sunt ergo sacerdotes et Levitae, ut portarent arcam Domini, Dei Israel;
15 The Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with poles, as Moses had ordained according to the word of the LORD.	15 et tulerunt filii Levi arcam Dei, sicut praeceperat Moyses iuxta verbum Domini, umeris suis in vectibus.
16 David commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brethren as chanters, to play on musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals, to make a loud sound of rejoicing.	16 Dixitque David principibus Levitarum, ut constituerent de fratribus suis cantores in organis musicorum, nablis videlicet et lyris et cymbalis, ut resonaret fortiter sonitus laetitiae.
17 Therefore the Levites appointed Heman, son of Joel, and, among his brethren, Asaph, son of Berechiah; and among the sons of Merari, their brethren, Ethan, son of Kushaiah;	17 Constitueruntque Levitae Heman filium Ioel et de fratribus eius Asaph filium Barachiae, de filiis vero Merari fratribus eorum Ethan filium Casaiae
18 and, together with these, their brethren of the second rank: the gatekeepers Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel.	18 et cum eis fratres eorum in secundo ordine Zachariam et Bani et Iaziel et Semiramoth et Iahiel et Ani, Eliab et Banaiam et Maasiam et Matthathiam et Eliphalu et Maceniam et Obededom et Iehiel ianitores.
19 The chanters, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, sounded brass cymbals.	19 Porro cantores Heman, Asaph et Ethan in cymbalis aeneis bene sonantibus,
20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah played on harps set to "Alamoth."	20 Zacharias autem et Oziel et Semiramoth et Iahiel et Ani et Eliab et Maasias et Banaias in nablis secundum “ Virgines ”.
21 But Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel led the chant on lyres set to "the eighth."	21 Porro Matthathias et Eliphalu et Macenias et Obededom et Iehiel et Ozaziu in citharis super octavam, ut dirigerent;
22 Chenaniah was the chief of the Levites in the chanting; he directed the chanting, for he was skillful.	22 Chonenias autem princeps Levitarum portantium arcam praeerat ad portandum, erat quippe valde sapiens.
23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers before the ark.	23 Et Barachias et Elcana ianitores pro arca.
24 The priests, Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, sounded the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jeiel were also gatekeepers before the ark.	24 Porro Sebania et Iosaphat et Nathanael et Amasai et Zacharias et Banaias et Eliezer sacerdotes clangebant tubis coram arca Dei, et Obededom et Iehias erant ianitores pro arca.
25 Thus David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with joy from the house of Obed-edom.	25 Igitur David et maiores natu Israel et tribuni ierunt ad deportandam arcam foederis Domini de domo Obededom cum laetitia.
26 While the Levites, with God's help, were bearing the ark of the covenant of the LORD, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed.	26 Cumque adiuvisset Deus Levitas, qui portabant arcam foederis Domini, immolati sunt septem tauri et septem arietes.
27 David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who carried the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah, the leader of the chant; David was also wearing a linen ephod.	27 Porro David indutus pallio byssino et universi Levitae, qui portabant arcam, cantoresque et Chonenias princeps pro portanda arca — David autem indutus erat etiam ephod lineo —
28 Thus all Israel brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD with joyful shouting, to the sound of horns, trumpets, and cymbals, and the music of harps and lyres.	28 universusque Israel deducebant arcam foederis Domini in iubilo et sonitu bucinae et tubis et cymbalis bene sonantibus et nablis et citharis.
29 But as the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal, daughter of Saul, looked down from her window, and when she saw King David leaping and dancing, she despised him in her heart.	29 Cumque pervenisset arca foederis Domini usque ad civitatem David, Michol filia Saul prospiciens per fenestram vidit regem David saltantem atque ludentem et despexit eum in corde suo.
