Genesis 3

1 Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the animals that the LORD God had made. The serpent asked the woman, "Did God really tell you not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?"	1 Et serpens erat callidior cunctis animantibus agri, quae fecerat Dominus Deus. Qui dixit ad mulierem: “Verene praecepit vobis Deus, ut non comederetis de omni ligno paradisi?”.
2 The woman answered the serpent: "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;	2 Cui respondit mulier: “De fructu lignorum, quae sunt in paradiso, vescimur;
3 it is only about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, 'You shall not eat it or even touch it, lest you die.'"	3 de fructu vero ligni, quod est in medio paradisi, praecepit nobis Deus, ne comederemus et ne tangeremus illud, ne moriamur”.
4 But the serpent said to the woman: "You certainly will not die!	4 Dixit autem serpens ad mulierem: “Nequaquam morte moriemini!
5 No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is bad."	5 Scit enim Deus quod in quocumque die comederitis ex eo, aperientur oculi vestri, et eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum”.
6 The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.	6 Vidit igitur mulier quod bonum esset lignum ad vescendum et pulchrum oculis et desiderabile esset lignum ad intellegendum; et tulit de fructu illius et comedit deditque etiam viro suo secum, qui comedit.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.	7 Et aperti sunt oculi amborum. Cumque cognovissent esse se nudos, consuerunt folia ficus et fecerunt sibi perizomata.
8 When they heard the sound of the LORD God moving about in the garden at the breezy time of the day, the man and his wife hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.	8 Et cum audissent vocem Domini Dei deambulantis in paradiso ad auram post meridiem, abscondit se Adam et uxor eius a facie Domini Dei in medio ligni paradisi.
9 The LORD God then called to the man and asked him, "Where are you?"	9 Vocavitque Dominus Deus Adam et dixit ei: “Ubi es?”.
10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden; but I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself."	10 Qui ait: “Vocem tuam audivi in paradiso et timui eo quod nudus essem et abscondi me”.
11 Then he asked, "Who told you that you were naked? You have eaten, then, from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!"	11 Cui dixit: “Quis enim indicavit tibi quod nudus esses, nisi quod ex ligno, de quo tibi praeceperam, ne comederes, comedisti?”.
12 The man replied, "The woman whom you put here with me--she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it."	12 Dixitque Adam: “Mulier, quam dedisti sociam mihi, ipsa dedit mihi de ligno, et comedi”.
13 The LORD God then asked the woman, "Why did you do such a thing?" The woman answered, "The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it."	13 Et dixit Dominus Deus ad mulierem: “Quid hoc fecisti?”. Quae respondit: “Serpens decepit me, et comedi”.
14 Then the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, you shall be banned from all the animals and from all the wild creatures; On your belly shall you crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the days of your life.	14 Et ait Dominus Deus ad serpentem: “Quia fecisti hoc, maledictus es inter omnia pecora et omnes bestias agri! Super pectus tuum gradieris et pulverem comedes cunctis diebus vitae tuae.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel."	15 Inimicitias ponam inter te et mulierem et semen tuum et semen illius; ipsum conteret caput tuum, et tu conteres calcaneum eius”.
16 To the woman he said: "I will intensify the pangs of your childbearing; in pain shall you bring forth children. Yet your urge shall be for your husband, and he shall be your master."	16 Mulieri dixit: “Multiplicabo aerumnas tuas et conceptus tuos: in dolore paries filios, et ad virum tuum erit appetitus tuus, ipse autem dominabitur tui”.
17 To the man he said: "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat, "Cursed be the ground because of you! In toil shall you eat its yield all the days of your life.	17 Adae vero dixit: “Quia audisti vocem uxoris tuae et comedisti de ligno, ex quo praeceperam tibi, ne comederes, maledicta humus propter te! In laboribus comedes ex ea cunctis diebus vitae tuae.
18 Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to you, as you eat of the plants of the field.	18 Spinas et tribulos germinabit tibi, et comedes herbas terrae;
19 By the sweat of your face shall you get bread to eat, Until you return to the ground, from which you were taken; For you are dirt, and to dirt you shall return."	19 in sudore vultus tui vesceris pane, donec revertaris ad humum, de qua sumptus es, quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris”.
20 The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all the living.	20 Et vocavit Adam nomen uxoris suae Eva, eo quod mater esset cunctorum viventium.
21 For the man and his wife the LORD God made leather garments, with which he clothed them.	21 Fecit quoque Dominus Deus Adae et uxori eius tunicas pelliceas et induit eos.
22 Then the LORD God said: "See! The man has become like one of us, knowing what is good and what is bad! Therefore, he must not be allowed to put out his hand to take fruit from the tree of life also, and thus eat of it and live forever."	22 Et ait Dominus Deus: “Ecce homo factus est quasi unus ex nobis, ut sciat bonum et malum; nunc ergo, ne mittat manum suam et sumat etiam de ligno vitae et comedat et vivat in aeternum!”.
23 The LORD God therefore banished him from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he had been taken.	23 Emisit eum Dominus Deus de paradiso Eden, ut operaretur humum, de qua sumptus est.
24 When he expelled the man, he settled him east of the garden of Eden; and he stationed the cherubim and the fiery revolving sword, to guard the way to the tree of life.	24 Eiecitque hominem et collocavit ad orientem paradisi Eden cherubim et flammeum gladium atque versatilem ad custodiendam viam ligni vitae.
