1 So redete Jesus; dann richtete er seine Augen zum Himmel empor und betete: »Vater, die Stunde ist gekommen: verherrliche deinen Sohn, damit der Sohn dich verherrliche!	1 After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: Father, the hour has come: glorify yourSon so that your Son may glorify you;
2 Du hast ihm ja Macht über alles Fleisch (= über die ganze Menschheit) verliehen, damit er allen, die du ihm gegeben hast, ewiges Leben gebe.	2 so that, just as you have given him power over all humanity, he may give eternal life to al those youhave entrusted to him.
3 Darin besteht aber das ewige Leben, daß sie dich, den allein wahren Gott, und den du gesandt hast, Jesus Christus, erkennen.	3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
4 Ich habe dich hier auf der Erde verherrlicht und habe das Werk vollendet, dessen Vollführung du mir aufgetragen hast.	4 I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.
5 Und jetzt verherrliche du mich, Vater, bei dir selbst mit der Herrlichkeit, die ich bei dir besaß, ehe die Welt war.«	5 Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before ever the world existed.
6 »Ich habe deinen Namen den Menschen geoffenbart, die du mir aus der Welt gegeben hast. Dir gehörten sie an, und mir hast du sie gegeben, und sie haben dein Wort bewahrt (= festgehalten).	6 I have revealed your name to those whom you took from the world to give me. They were yours andyou gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
7 Jetzt haben sie erkannt, daß alles, was du mir gegeben hast, von dir stammt;	7 Now at last they have recognised that all you have given me comes from you
8 denn die Worte, die du mir gegeben hast, habe ich ihnen gegeben, und sie haben sie angenommen und haben in Wahrheit erkannt, daß ich von dir ausgegangen bin, und haben den Glauben gewonnen, daß du es bist, der mich gesandt hat.	8 for I have given them the teaching you gave to me, and they have indeed accepted it and know forcertain that I came from you, and have believed that it was you who sent me.
9 Ich bitte für sie; nicht für die Welt bitte ich, sondern für die, welche du mir gegeben hast; denn sie sind dein Eigentum,	9 It is for them that I pray. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me, because theybelong to you.
10 und was mein ist, ist ja alles dein, und was dein ist, das ist mein, und ich bin in ihnen verherrlicht worden.	10 All I have is yours and al you have is mine, and in them I am glorified.
11 Und ich bin nicht mehr in der Welt, doch sie sind (= verbleiben) noch in der Welt, während ich zu dir gehe. Heiliger Vater, erhalte sie in (oder: bei) deinem Namen, den du mir anvertraut (oder: kundzutun verliehen) hast, damit sie eins seien, so wie wir es sind.	11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keepthose you have given me true to your name, so that they may be one like us.
12 Solange ich in ihrer Mitte gewesen bin, habe ich sie, die du mir gegeben hast, in (oder: bei) deinem Namen erhalten und habe sie behütet, und keiner von ihnen ist verlorengegangen außer dem Sohne des Verderbens, damit die Schrift erfüllt würde (Ps 41,10).	12 While I was with them, I kept those you had given me true to your name. I have watched over themand not one is lost except one who was destined to be lost, and this was to fulfil the scriptures.
13 Jetzt aber gehe ich zu dir und rede dieses noch in der Welt, damit sie die Freude, wie ich sie habe, vollkommen in sich tragen.	13 But now I am coming to you and I say these things in the world to share my joy with them to the full.
14 Ich habe ihnen dein Wort gegeben, und die Welt hat sie gehaßt, weil sie nicht zur Welt gehören, wie auch ich nicht der Welt angehöre.	14 I passed your word on to them, and the world hated them, because they belong to the world no morethan I belong to the world.
15 Ich bitte dich nicht, sie aus der Welt hinwegzunehmen, sondern sie vor dem Bösen zu behüten.	15 I am not asking you to remove them from the world, but to protect them from the Evil One.
16 Sie gehören nicht zur Welt, wie auch ich nicht der Welt angehöre.	16 They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
17 Heilige sie in deiner Wahrheit: dein Wort ist Wahrheit.	17 Consecrate them in the truth; your word is truth.
18 Wie du mich in die Welt gesandt hast, so habe auch ich sie in die Welt gesandt;	18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world,
19 und für sie heilige ich mich, damit auch sie in Wahrheit (oder: wahrhaft) geheiligt seien.«	19 and for their sake I consecrate myself so that they too may be consecrated in truth.
20 »Ich bitte aber nicht für diese allein, sondern auch für die, welche durch ihr Wort zum Glauben an mich kommen (werden),	20 I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching wil come to believe in me.
21 daß sie alle eins seien; wie du, Vater, in mir bist und ich in dir bin, so laß auch sie in uns eins sein, damit die Welt glaube, daß du mich gesandt hast.	21 May they al be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, sothat the world may believe it was you who sent me.
22 Ich habe auch die Herrlichkeit, die du mir gegeben hast, ihnen gegeben, damit sie eins seien, wie wir eins sind:	22 I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are one.
23 ich in ihnen und du in mir, auf daß sie zu vollkommener Einheit gelangen, damit die Welt erkenne, daß du mich gesandt und sie geliebt hast, wie du mich geliebt hast.	23 With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in unity that the world wil recognise that itwas you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me.
24 Vater, ich will, daß da, wo ich bin, auch die bei mir seien, die du mir gegeben hast, damit sie meine Herrlichkeit sehen, die du mir verliehen hast; denn du hast mich schon vor der Grundlegung der Welt geliebt.	24 Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see myglory which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 Gerechter Vater, die Welt hat dich nicht erkannt, ich aber habe dich erkannt, und diese haben erkannt, daß du mich gesandt hast.	25 Father, Upright One, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known thatyou have sent me.
26 Und ich habe ihnen deinen Namen kundgetan und werde ihn (auch weiterhin) kundtun, damit die Liebe, mit der du mich geliebt hast, in ihnen sei und ich in ihnen.«	26 I have made your name known to them and wil continue to make it known, so that the love withwhich you loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.
