1 Die Stämme Ruben und Gad besaßen aber außerordentlich viel Vieh. Als sie sich nun die Landschaft Jaser und die Landschaft Gilead ansahen, erkannten sie, daß die Gegend zur Viehzucht geeignet war.	1 Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle; and they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for cattle.
2 So gingen denn die Stämme Gad und Ruben hin und sagten zu Mose und zu dem Priester Eleasar und zu den Häuptern (= Fürsten) der Gemeinde:	2 So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation,
3 »Ataroth, Dibon, Jaser, Nimra, Hesbon, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo und Beon,	3 "Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
4 das Land, das der HERR der Gemeinde Israel unterworfen hat, ist ein zur Viehzucht geeignetes Land, und deine Knechte besitzen viel Vieh.«	4 the land which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle; and your servants have cattle."
5 Dann fuhren sie fort: »Wenn du uns eine Liebe erweisen willst, so möge diese Landschaft deinen Knechten als Erbbesitz überwiesen werden: laß uns nicht mit über den Jordan ziehen!«	5 And they said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; do not take us across the Jordan."
6 Darauf antwortete Mose den Stämmen Gad und Ruben: »Eure Brüder sollen also in den Krieg ziehen, und ihr wollt ruhig hier bleiben?	6 But Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, "Shall your brethren go to the war while you sit here?
7 Warum wollt ihr denn die (übrigen) Israeliten von dem Entschluß abbringen, in das Land hinüberzuziehen, das der HERR für sie bestimmt hat?	7 Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?
8 Ebenso haben es auch eure Väter gemacht, als ich sie von Kades-Barnea zur Besichtigung des Landes aussandte (vgl. 13,17-33).	8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.
9 Als sie nämlich bis zum Tal Eskol hinaufgezogen waren und sich das Land angesehen hatten, brachten sie die Israeliten von ihrem Entschluß ab, so daß sie nicht in das Land ziehen wollten, das der HERR für sie bestimmt hatte.	9 For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land which the LORD had given them.
10 Da entbrannte aber der Zorn des HERRN an jenem Tage, so daß er mit einem Schwur aussprach:	10 And the LORD's anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying,
11 ›Die Männer, die aus Ägypten ausgezogen sind, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber, die sollen nimmermehr das Land zu sehen bekommen, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen habe, denn sie sind mir nicht in allen Stücken gehorsam gewesen,	11 'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me;
12 außer dem Kenissiter Kaleb, dem Sohn Jephunnes, und außer Josua, dem Sohne Nuns; denn diese beiden sind dem HERRN in allen Stücken gehorsam gewesen.‹	12 none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.'
13 So entbrannte also der Zorn des HERRN gegen Israel, und er ließ sie vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste umherirren, bis das ganze Geschlecht, das in den Augen des HERRN übel gehandelt hatte, ausgestorben war.	13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed.
14 Und jetzt seid ihr an Stelle eurer Väter aufgetreten, ein Nachwuchs von Sündern, um den lodernden Zorn des HERRN gegen Israel noch zu mehren!	14 And behold, you have risen in your fathers' stead, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel!
15 Wenn ihr euch vom Gehorsam gegen ihn abwendet, so wird er das Volk noch länger in der Wüste belassen, und ihr werdet so dies ganze Volk zugrunde richten!«	15 For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people."
16 Da traten sie an ihn heran und sagten: »Wir wollen hier nur Viehhürden für unsere Herden und feste Wohnorte für unsere Frauen und Kinder bauen;	16 Then they came near to him, and said, "We will build sheepfolds here for our flocks, and cities for our little ones,
17 wir selbst aber wollen kampfgerüstet an der Spitze der Israeliten einherziehen, bis wir sie in ihre Wohnsitze gebracht haben; unterdessen sollen unsere Frauen und Kinder wegen der (feindseligen) Bewohner des Landes in den befestigten Ortschaften bleiben.	17 but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 Wir wollen nicht eher in unsere Häuser zurückkehren, als bis die Israeliten sämtlich ihren Erbbesitz empfangen haben;	18 We will not return to our homes until the people of Israel have inherited each his inheritance.
19 denn wir beanspruchen keinen Besitz neben ihnen jenseits des Jordans und weiterhin, wenn uns unser Erbbesitz diesseits des Jordans gegen Osten zuteil geworden ist.«	19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond; because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east."
20 Da sagte Mose zu ihnen: »Wenn ihr das wirklich tut, daß ihr euch vor dem HERRN zum Kriege rüstet	20 So Moses said to them, "If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the LORD for the war,
21 und ihr alle gerüstet vor den Augen des HERRN über den Jordan zieht, bis er seine Feinde vor sich her ausgetrieben hat,	21 and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before him
22 und ihr erst dann wieder heimkehrt, nachdem das Land vor dem HERRN unterworfen ist, so sollt ihr eurer Verpflichtungen gegen den HERRN und gegen Israel los und ledig sein, und dieses Land soll euch als Erbbesitz vor dem HERRN zuteil werden.	22 and the land is subdued before the LORD; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.
23 Wenn ihr aber nicht so handelt, so habt ihr euch damit gegen den HERRN versündigt und werdet die Folgen eurer Versündigung zu fühlen bekommen!	23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.
24 Baut euch also Städte für eure Frauen und Kinder und Hürden für euer Kleinvieh, tut aber auch, was ihr versprochen habt!«	24 Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do what you have promised."
25 Da gaben die Stämme Gad und Ruben dem Mose folgende Versicherung: »Deine Knechte werden tun, wie du, Herr, befiehlst:	25 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said to Moses, "Your servants will do as my lord commands.
26 unsere Kinder, unsere Frauen, unsere Herden und all unsere Lasttiere sollen hier in den Ortschaften Gileads bleiben,	26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall remain there in the cities of Gilead;
27 wir aber, deine Knechte, werden alle, soweit sie waffenfähig sind, vor dem HERRN her zum Kampf hinüberziehen, wie du, Herr, befohlen hast.«	27 but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord orders."
28 Darauf gab Mose ihretwegen dem Priester Eleasar und Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, und den Stammeshäuptern der Israeliten Anweisung,	28 So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel.
29 indem er ihnen auftrug: »Wenn die Gaditen und Rubeniten, alle Waffenfähigen, mit euch zum Kriege vor dem HERRN her über den Jordan ziehen, so sollt ihr, wenn das Land unterworfen vor euch daliegt, ihnen die Landschaft Gilead zum Erbbesitz geben;	29 And Moses said to them, "If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
30 wenn sie aber nicht kampfgerüstet mit euch hinüberziehen, so sollen sie unter euch im Lande Kanaan angesiedelt (= ansässig gemacht) werden.«	30 but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan."
31 Da gaben die Gaditen und Rubeniten folgende Erklärung ab: »Wie der HERR deinen Knechten geboten hat, so wollen wir tun:	31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, "As the LORD has said to your servants, so we will do.
32 wir wollen kampfgerüstet vor dem HERRN her in das Land Kanaan hinüberziehen, damit uns unser Erbbesitz diesseits des Jordans verbleibt.«	32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan."
33 Darauf überwies Mose ihnen – den Stämmen Gad und Ruben und dem halben Stamme Manasses, des Sohnes Josephs – das Reich des Amoriterkönigs Sihon und das Reich des Königs Og von Basan, das Land mit den darin liegenden Städten samt den zugehörigen Gebieten ringsum.	33 And Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country.
34 Da bauten die Gaditen Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,	34 And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 Ateroth-Sophan, Jaser, Jogbeha,	35 Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36 Beth-Nimra und Beth-Haran wieder auf, feste Städte und Hürden für das Kleinvieh.	36 Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
37 Die Rubeniten aber bauten Hesbon, Eleale, Kirjathaim,	37 And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38 Nebo, Baal-Meon [mit verändertem Namen zu sprechen!] und Sibma wieder auf; sie gaben aber den Städten, die sie wieder aufgebaut hatten, andere Namen.	38 Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names to be changed), and Sibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.
39 Die Söhne Machirs aber, des Sohnes Manasses, zogen nach Gilead, eroberten es und trieben die Amoriter aus, die darin wohnten.	39 And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.
40 Mose verlieh dann Gilead dem Machir, dem Sohne Manasses, und dieser siedelte sich dort an.	40 And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it.
41 Jair aber, der Sohn Manasses, zog hin, bemächtigte sich ihrer (der Amoriter) Zeltdörfer und gab ihnen den Namen »Zeltdörfer Jairs«. –	41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair.
42 Auch Nobah zog hin, nahm Kenath und die dazugehörigen Ortschaften ein und benannte es nach seinem Namen Nobah.	42 And Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
