1 Im siebten Monat (oder: am siebten Neumond) aber kam Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, des Sohnes Elisamas, (ein Mann) von königlicher Abkunft und einer von den Großen (oder: Würdenträgern) des früheren Königs, in Begleitung von zehn Männern zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Ahikams, nach Mizpa. Als sie dort mit ihm zusammen beim Mahl saßen,	1 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. And as they were taking theirmeal together, there at Mizpah,
2 erhob sich Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, und die zehn Männer, die bei ihm waren, und erschlugen Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, mit dem Schwert: so ermordete er den Mann, den der König von Babylon zum Statthalter über das Land eingesetzt hatte.	2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.
3 Auch alle Judäer, die bei Gedalja in Mizpa waren, sowie die chaldäischen Kriegsleute, die sich dort befanden, ließ Ismael niedermachen.	3 And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.
4 Am anderen Tage nach der Ermordung Gedaljas aber, als noch niemand etwas von der Sache erfahren hatte,	4 On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before the news had become known,
5 kamen Männer aus Sichem, aus Silo und Samaria, achtzig an der Zahl, mit geschorenen Bärten, zerrissenen Kleidern und mit Schnittwunden am Leibe; sie hatten Opfergaben und Weihrauch bei sich, um diese (Gaben) in den Tempel des HERRN zu bringen.	5 eighty men arrived from Shechem, Shiloh and Samaria, with their beards shaved off, their clothing torn,and covered in self-inflicted gashes; they were bringing cereal offerings and incense with them to present to theTemple of Yahweh.
6 Da ging Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, von Mipza aus ihnen entgegen, indem er beim Gehen immerfort weinte; und als er mit ihnen zusammentraf, sagte er zu ihnen: »Kommt herein zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Ahikams!«	6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out of Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. When he met themhe said, 'Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'
7 Als sie dann aber ins Innere der Stadt gekommen waren, machte Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, sie nieder und warf sie in eine Zisterne hinein, er und die Leute, die bei ihm waren.	7 But once they were wel inside the town, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them, with the help ofhis men, and had them thrown into the storage-wel .
8 Es befanden sich aber unter ihnen zehn Männer, die zu Ismael sagten: »Töte uns nicht! Denn wir haben noch im Felde vergrabene Vorräte von Weizen, Gerste, Öl und Honig!« Da verschonte er sie und tötete sie nicht wie die anderen.	8 There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.
9 Die Zisterne aber, in welche Ismael alle Leichen der ermordeten Männer werfen ließ, war eine große Zisterne, dieselbe, welche der König Asa zu Kriegszwecken gegen Baesa, den König von Israel, hatte anlegen lassen (vgl. 1.Kön 15,22); diese füllte jetzt Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, mit den (Leichen der) Erschlagenen an	9 The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them prisoner and set out, intending to cross over to the Ammonites.
11 Als aber Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, und alle Truppenführer, die sich bei ihm befanden, die ganze Freveltat erfuhren, die Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, verübt hatte,	11 When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,
12 boten sie alle ihre Leute auf und zogen zum Kampf gegen Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, aus, und sie trafen ihn am großen Teich bei Gibeon.	12 they mustered all their men and set out to attack Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They caught up with himat the great Pool of Gibeon.
13 Als nun die ganze Volksmenge, die sich bei Ismael befand, Johanan, den Sohn Kareahs, und alle Truppenführer, die bei ihm waren, erblickten, freuten sie sich;	13 At the sight of Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him, al the people with Ishmaelwere delighted.
14 und die ganze Volksmenge, die Ismael gefangen aus Mizpa weggeführt hatte, machte kehrt und ging zu Johanan, dem Sohn Kareahs, über;	14 Al the people whom Ishmael had taken as prisoners from Mizpah turned about, went back and joinedJohanan son of Kareah.
15 Ismael aber, der Sohn Nethanjas, ergriff mit acht Männern die Flucht vor Johanan und gelangte zu den Ammonitern.	15 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.
16 Hierauf nahm Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, samt allen Truppenführern, die bei ihm waren, den gesamten Rest des Volkes, den Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, nach der Ermordung Gedaljas, des Sohnes Ahikams, gefangen aus Mizpa weggeführt hatte, die Männer und Kriegsleute, die Weiber, Kinder und Hofbeamten (vgl. 38,7), die er von Gibeon zurückgebracht hatte.	16 Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.

18 (aus Furcht) vor den Chaldäern, vor denen sie sich fürchteten, weil Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, der vom Könige von Babylon zum Statthalter über das Land eingesetzt worden war, ermordet hatte.	18 to get away from the Chaldaeans.
