1 Im zwölften Jahre des Königs Ahas von Juda wurde Hosea, der Sohn Elas, König über Israel in Samaria und regierte neun Jahre.	1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz, the king of Judah: Hoshea, the son of Elah, reigned over Israel, in Samaria, for nine years.
2 Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel, wenn auch nicht so arg wie die Könige von Israel, die vor ihm regiert hatten.	2 And he did evil before the Lord, but not like the kings of Israel who had been before him.
3 Gegen ihn zog Salmanassar, der König von Assyrien, heran; Hosea unterwarf sich ihm und wurde ihm tributpflichtig.	3 Shalmaneser, the king of the Assyrians, ascended against him. And Hoshea became a servant to him, and he paid him tribute.
4 Als aber der König von Assyrien eine Verschwörung Hoseas entdeckte – er hatte nämlich Gesandte an den König Sewe von Ägypten geschickt und dem Könige von Assyrien nicht mehr wie sonst alljährlich den Tribut entrichtet –, da ließ der König von Assyrien ihn festnehmen und gefesselt ins Gefängnis werfen.	4 And when the king of the Assyrians discovered that Hoshea, striving to rebel, had sent messengers to Sais, to the king of Egypt, so as not to present the tribute to the king of the Assyrians, as he had been accustomed to do each year, he besieged him. And having been bound, he cast him into prison.
5 Der König von Assyrien hatte nämlich das ganze Land mit Krieg überzogen, war vor Samaria gerückt und hatte es drei Jahre lang belagert.	5 And he wandered through the entire land. And ascending to Samaria, he besieged it for three years.
6 Als der König von Assyrien dann Samaria im neunten Regierungsjahre Hoseas erobert hatte, führte er die Israeliten in die Gefangenschaft (oder: Verbannung) nach Assyrien und wies ihnen Wohnsitze in Halah und am Habor, dem Flusse Gosans, sowie in den Ortschaften Mediens an.	6 And in the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of the Assyrians captured Samaria, and he carried away Israel to Assyria. And he stationed them in Halah and in Habor, beside the river of Gozan, in the cities of the Medes.
7 Das ist aber geschehen, weil die Israeliten sich am HERRN, ihrem Gott, versündigt hatten, der sie aus Ägypten aus der Gewalt des Pharaos, des ägyptischen Königs, weggeführt hatte, und weil sie andere Götter verehrt hatten	7 For it happened that, when the sons of Israel had sinned against the Lord, their God, who had led them away from the land of Egypt, from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, they worshipped strange gods.
8 und nach den Satzungen der Heidenvölker gewandelt waren, die der HERR vor den Israeliten vertrieben hatte, und nach den Bräuchen, welche die Könige von Israel eingeführt hatten.	8 And they walked according to the rituals of the nations that the Lord had consumed in the sight of the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel. For they had acted similarly.
9 So hatten denn die Israeliten gegen den Willen des HERRN, ihres Gottes, Dinge getrieben, die nicht recht waren; denn sie hatten sich Höhenheiligtümer in allen ihren Ortschaften erbaut, von den Wachttürmen an bis zu den festen Städten,	9 And the sons of Israel offended the Lord, their God, with deeds that were not upright. And they built for themselves high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.
10 und hatten sich Malsteine und Götzensäulen auf jedem hohen Hügel und unter jedem dichtbelaubten Baume errichtet	10 And they made for themselves statues and sacred groves, on every high hill and under every leafy tree.
11 und dort auf allen Höhen geopfert wie die heidnischen Völkerschaften, die der HERR vor ihnen vertrieben hatte. Sie hatten also böse Dinge verübt, um den HERRN zum Zorn zu reizen,	11 And they were burning incense there, upon altars, in the manner of the nations that the Lord had removed from their face. And they did wicked deeds, provoking the Lord.
12 und den Götzen gedient, in betreff deren der HERR ihnen geboten hatte: »Ihr dürft so etwas nicht tun!«	12 And they worshipped impurities, concerning which the Lord instructed them that they should not do this word.
13 Und der HERR hatte doch Israel und Juda durch den Mund aller Propheten, aller Seher warnen lassen, indem er ihnen vorhielt: »Kehrt von euren bösen Wegen um und haltet meine Gebote und meine Verordnungen genau nach der Weisung, die ich euren Vätern gegeben und die ich euch durch meine Knechte, die Propheten, habe zukommen lassen!«	13 And the Lord testified to them, in Israel and in Judah, through the hand of all the prophets and seers, saying: “Return from your wicked ways, and keep my precepts and ceremonies, in accord with the entire law, which I instructed to your fathers, and just as I sent to you by the hand of my servants, the prophets.”
14 Aber sie hatten nicht hören wollen, sondern sich halsstarrig gezeigt, wie auch ihre Väter, die dem HERRN, ihrem Gott, nicht vertraut hatten;	14 But they did not listen. Instead, they hardened their necks to be like the neck of their fathers, who were not willing to obey the Lord, their God.
15 sie mißachteten seine Satzungen und seinen Bund, den er mit ihren Vätern geschlossen, und seine Warnungen, die er an sie gerichtet hatte; sie liefen vielmehr hinter den nichtigen Götzen her und wandten sich einem nichtigen Treiben zu nach dem Vorbild der heidnischen Völkerschaften, die um sie her wohnten, bezüglich deren der HERR ihnen geboten hatte, es nicht so zu machen wie jene.	15 And they cast aside his ordinances, and the covenant that he formed with their fathers, and the testimonies which he testified to them. And they pursued vanities and acted vainly. And they followed the nations that were all around them, concerning the things which the Lord had commanded them not to do, and which they did.
16 Sie vernachlässigten alle Gebote des HERRN, ihres Gottes, und fertigten sich zwei gegossene Stierbilder an, verfertigten sich Götzensäulen, beteten das ganze Sternenheer des Himmels an und dienten dem Baal.	16 And they abandoned all the precepts of the Lord, their God. And they made for themselves two molten calves and sacred groves. And they adored the entire celestial army. And they served Baal.
17 Sie verbrannten auch ihre Söhne und Töchter als Opfer, trieben Wahrsagerei und Zauberei und gaben sich dazu her, das, was dem HERRN mißfiel, zu verüben, um ihn zu erbittern.	17 And they consecrated their sons and their daughters through fire. And they devoted themselves to divinations and soothsaying. And they delivered themselves into the doing of evil before the Lord, so that they provoked him.
18 Da geriet der HERR in heftigen Zorn gegen die Israeliten und verstieß sie von seinem Angesicht, so daß nichts übrigblieb als der Stamm Juda allein.	18 And the Lord became vehemently angry with Israel, and he took them away from his sight. And there remained no one, except the tribe of Judah alone.
19 Aber auch die dem Stamm Juda Angehörigen beobachteten die Gebote des HERRN, ihres Gottes, nicht, sondern wandelten in den Bräuchen, welche die Israeliten in Aufnahme gebracht hatten.	19 But even Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord, their God. Instead, they walked in the errors of Israel, which they had wrought.
20 Da verwarf denn der HERR die ganze Nachkommenschaft Israels, demütigte sie und ließ sie in die Gewalt von Räubern fallen, bis er sie ganz von seinem Angesicht verstoßen hatte.	20 And the Lord cast aside all of the offspring of Israel. And he afflicted them, and he delivered them into the hand of despoilers, until he drove them away from his face,
21 Als nämlich Israel sich vom Hause Davids losgerissen und sie Jerobeam, den Sohn Nebats, zum König gemacht hatten, da hatte Jerobeam die Israeliten zum Abfall vom HERRN veranlaßt und sie zu schwerer Sünde verführt.	21 even from that time when Israel was torn away from the house of David, and they appointed for themselves Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, as king. For Jeroboam separated Israel from the Lord, and he caused them to sin a great sin.
22 So waren denn die Israeliten in allen Sünden gewandelt, die Jerobeam begangen hatte; sie waren nicht davon abgegangen,	22 And the sons of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam, which he had done. And they did not withdraw from these,
23 bis der HERR die Israeliten von seinem Angesicht verstieß, wie er es durch den Mund aller seiner Knechte, der Propheten, angedroht hatte. So wurden also die Israeliten aus ihrem Lande nach Assyrien weggeführt, wo sie sich bis auf den heutigen Tag befinden.	23 even when the Lord carried away Israel from his face, just as he had said by the hand of all his servants, the prophets. And Israel was carried away from their land into Assyria, even to this day.
24 Der König von Assyrien aber ließ Leute aus Babylon, Kutha, Awwa, Hamath und Sepharwaim kommen und siedelte sie an Stelle der Israeliten in den Ortschaften Samarias an; die nahmen Besitz von Samaria und wohnten in den dortigen Ortschaften.	24 Then the king of the Assyrians brought some from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim. And he located them in the cities of Samaria, in place of the sons of Israel. And they possessed Samaria, and they lived in its cities.
25 Weil sie aber in der ersten Zeit ihrer Niederlassung daselbst den HERRN nicht verehrten, ließ der HERR Löwen gegen sie los, welche Verheerungen unter ihnen anrichteten.	25 And when they had begun to live there, they did not fear the Lord. And the Lord sent lions among them, which were killing them.
26 Da machte man dem König von Assyrien die Meldung: »Die Völkerschaften, die du aus ihrer Heimat hast auswandern lassen und in den Ortschaften Samarias angesiedelt hast, verstehen sich nicht auf die dem Landesgott gebührende Verehrung; daher hat er Löwen gegen sie losgelassen, die nun Verheerungen unter ihnen anrichten, weil sie sich nicht auf die dem Landesgott gebührende Verehrung verstehen.«	26 And this was reported to the king of the Assyrians, and it was said: “The peoples that you transferred and caused to live in the cities of Samaria, they are ignorant of the ordinances of the God of the land. And so the Lord has sent lions among them. And behold, they have killed them, because they were ignorant of the rituals of the God of the land.”
27 Da erließ der König von Assyrien folgenden Befehl: »Laßt einen von den Priestern, die ihr von dort weggeführt habt, dorthin zurückkehren; der soll sich dorthin begeben und dort wohnen und sie in der dem Landesgott gebührenden Verehrung unterweisen!«	27 Then the king of the Assyrians commanded, saying: “Lead to that place one of the priests, whom you brought as a captive from there. And let him go and live with them. And let him teach them the ordinances of the God of the land.”
28 So kam denn einer von den Priestern, die man aus Samaria weggeführt hatte, zurück, ließ sich in Bethel nieder und unterwies sie, wie sie den HERRN zu verehren hätten.	28 And so, when one of the priests, who had been led away captive from Samaria, had arrived, he lived in Bethel. And he taught them how they should worship the Lord.
29 Dabei machten sie sich aber, jede einzelne Völkerschaft, ihren besonderen Gott und stellten diesen in den Höhentempeln auf, welche die Samarier (oder: Samaritaner) erbaut hatten, eine jede Völkerschaft in ihren Ortschaften, in denen sie angesiedelt waren.	29 And each of the nations made gods of their own, and they placed them in the shrines of the high places, which the Samaritans had made: nation after nation, in their cities in which they were living.
30 Die Leute von Babylon z.B. fertigten ein Bild des (oder: der?) Sukkoth-Benoth an, die Leute aus Kuth (vgl. V.24) ein Bild des Nergal, die Leute aus Hamath ein Bild des (oder: der?) Asima;	30 So the men of Babylon made Soccoth-benoth; and the men of Cuth made Nergal; and the men of Hamath made Ashima;
31 die Awwiter fertigten ein Bild des Nibhas und Tharthak an, und die Sepharwiter verbrannten ihre Kinder als Feueropfer zu Ehren Adrammelechs und Anammelechs, der Götter von Sepharwaim.	31 and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak. Then those who were from Sepharvaim burned up their children with fire, for the gods of Sepharvaim: Adram-melech and Anam-melech.
32 Daneben verehrten sie (jetzt) aber auch Gott den HERRN und bestellten sich Leute aus ihrer Mitte zu Höhenpriestern, die für sie Opfer in den Höhenheiligtümern darbrachten.	32 But nevertheless, they worshipped the Lord. Then they made for themselves, from the least of the people, priests of the high places. And they placed them in the shrines of the high places.
33 So waren sie zwar Verehrer des HERRN, blieben zugleich aber auch Diener ihrer Götter nach den Bräuchen der Völkerschaften, aus denen man sie weggeführt hatte.	33 And though they worshipped the Lord, they also served their own gods, according to the custom of the nations from which they had been transferred into Samaria.
34 Bis auf den heutigen Tag verfahren sie nach den ursprünglichen Bräuchen: sie verehren den HERRN nicht in rechter Weise und verfahren nicht nach seinen Satzungen und seinen Verordnungen, nicht nach dem Gesetz und den Geboten, die der HERR den Nachkommen Jakobs geboten hat, dem er den Namen ›Israel‹ beilegte.	34 Even to the present day, they follow the ancient customs; they do not fear the Lord, and they do not keep his ceremonies, and judgments, and law, and commandment, which the Lord had instructed to the sons of Jacob, whom he named Israel.
35 Und doch hatte der HERR einen Bund mit ihnen geschlossen und ihnen ausdrücklich geboten: »Ihr dürft keine anderen Götter verehren und dürft sie nicht anbeten und ihnen nicht dienen noch opfern;	35 And he had struck a covenant with them, and he had commanded them, saying: “You shall not fear foreign gods, and you shall not adore them, and you shall not worship them, and you shall not sacrifice to them.
36 sondern Gott den HERRN, der euch aus Ägypten mit großer Kraft und hocherhobenem Arm hergeführt hat, den sollt ihr verehren und den sollt ihr anbeten und ihm opfern!	36 But the Lord, your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, with great strength and with an outstretched arm, him shall you fear, and him shall you adore, and to him shall you sacrifice.
37 Die Satzungen und Verordnungen aber, das Gesetz und die Gebote, die er euch vorgeschrieben hat, müßt ihr beobachten, daß ihr allezeit danach tut, und dürft keine anderen Götter verehren!	37 Also, the ceremonies, and judgments, and law, and commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall keep so that you do them for all days. And you shall not fear strange gods.
38 Und des Bundes, den ich mit euch geschlossen habe, dürft ihr nicht vergessen und dürft keine anderen Götter verehren;	38 And the covenant, which he struck with you, you shall not forget; neither shall you worship strange gods.
39 sondern den HERRN, euren Gott, sollt ihr verehren: er ist es, der euch aus der Gewalt aller eurer Feinde erretten wird.«	39 But you shall fear the Lord, your God. And he will rescue you from the hand of all your enemies.”
40 Aber sie wollten nicht darauf hören, sondern taten nach ihrer früheren Weise. –	40 Yet truly, they did not listen to this. Instead, they acted in accord with their earlier custom.
41 So waren also diese Völkerschaften zwar Verehrer des HERRN, zugleich aber Diener ihrer Götzenbilder; auch ihre Kinder und Kindeskinder halten es so, wie ihre Väter getan haben, bis auf den heutigen Tag.	41 And such were these nations: to some extent fearing the Lord, yet nevertheless also serving their idols. As for their sons and grandsons, just as their fathers acted, so also did they act, even to the present day.
