KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;1 You were dead in your transgressions and sins
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:2 in which you once lived following the age of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the disobedient.
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.3 All of us once lived among them in the desires of our flesh, following the wishes of the flesh and the impulses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:6 raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.7 that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;
Not of works, lest any man should boast.9 it is not from works, so no one may boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.10 For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.
Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;11 Therefore, remember that at one time you, Gentiles in the flesh, called the uncircumcision by those called the circumcision, which is done in the flesh by human hands,
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:12 were at that time without Christ, alienated from the community of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the blood of Christ.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;14 For he is our peace, he who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh,
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;15 abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims, that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two, thus establishing peace,
And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:16 and might reconcile both with God, in one body, through the cross, putting that enmity to death by it.
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.17 He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near,
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.18 for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;19 So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God,
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:21 Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord;
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.22 in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
