Deuteronomy 6

1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:	1 Voici les préceptes, les cérémonies et les ordonnances que le Seigneur votre Dieu m'a commandé de vous enseigner, afin que vous les observiez dans la terre dont vous allez vous mettre en possession ;
2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.	2 afin que tu craignes le Seigneur ton Dieu, et que, tous les jours de ta vie, tu gardes tous ses commandements et ses préceptes que je te donne, à toi, à tes enfants (fils), et aux enfants de tes enfants (petits-fils), et que tu vives longtemps sur la terre.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.	3 Ecoute, Israël, et aie grand soin de faire ce que le Seigneur t'a commandé, afin que tu sois heureux, et que tu te multiplies de plus en plus, selon la promesse que le Seigneur, le Dieu de tes pères, t'a faite de te donner une terre où couleraient le lait et le miel.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:	4 Ecoute, Israël : le Seigneur notre Dieu est le seul et unique Seigneur.
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.	5 Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toutes tes forces.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:	6 Ces commandements, que je te donne aujourd'hui, seront gravés dans ton cœur.
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.	7 Tu en instruiras tes enfants ; tu les méditeras quand tu seras assis dans ta maison, et que tu marcheras dans le chemin, la nuit dans les intervalles du sommeil, le matin à ton réveil.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.	8 (De plus) Tu les lieras comme un signe dans ta main ; tu les porteras sur le front (et elles mouvront) entre tes yeux ;
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.	9 tu les écriras sur le seuil et sur les poteaux de la porte de ta maison.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,	10 Et lorsque le Seigneur ton Dieu t'aura fait entrer dans la terre qu'il a promise avec serment à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, et qu'il t'aura donné de grandes et de très bonnes villes que tu n'auras point fait bâtir,
11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;	11 des maisons pleines de toutes sortes de biens, que tu n'auras point construites, des citernes que tu n'auras point creusées, des vignes et des plants d'oliviers que tu n'auras pas plantés,
12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.	12 et que tu seras nourri et rassasié de toutes ces choses ;
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.	13 prends bien garde de ne pas oublier le Seigneur, qui t'a tiré du pays d'Egypte (et) de la maison de servitude. Tu craindras le Seigneur ton Dieu ; tu ne serviras que lui seul, et tu ne jureras que par son nom.
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;	14 Vous ne suivrez point les dieux étrangers d'aucune des nations qui sont autour de vous ;
15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.	15 parce que le Seigneur ton Dieu, qui est au milieu de toi, est un Dieu jaloux ; de peur que la fureur du Seigneur ton Dieu ne s'allume contre toi, et qu'il ne t'extermine (enlève) de dessus la terre.
16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.	16 Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur ton Dieu, comme tu l'as tenté au lieu de la tentation.
17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.	17 Garde les préceptes du Seigneur ton Dieu, les ordonnances et les cérémonies qu'il t'a prescrites.
18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,	18 (Et) Fais ce qui est bon et agréable aux yeux du Seigneur, afin que tu sois heureux, et que tu possèdes cet excellent pays où tu vas entrer, que le Seigneur a juré de donner à tes pères,
19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.	19 en leur promettant d'exterminer devant toi tous tes ennemis.
20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?	20 Et lorsque tes enfants (ton fils) t'interrogeront à l'avenir, et te diront : Que signifient ces commandements, ces cérémonies et ces ordonnances que le Seigneur notre Dieu nous a prescrites ?
21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:	21 Tu leur diras : Nous étions esclaves du (de) Pharaon en Egypte, et le Seigneur nous a (re)tirés de l'Egypte avec une main forte ;
22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:	22 il a fait devant nos yeux en Egypte de grands miracles et des prodiges terribles contre (le) Pharaon et contre toute sa maison ;
23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.	23 et il nous a (re)tirés de ce pays-là pour nous faire entrer dans cette terre, qu'il avait promis avec serment à nos pères de nous donner ;
24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.	24 et le Seigneur nous a commandé ensuite d'observer toutes ces lois, et de craindre le Seigneur notre Dieu, afin que nous soyons heureux tous les jours de notre vie, comme nous le sommes aujourd'hui.
25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.	25 Le Seigneur notre Dieu nous fera miséricorde, si nous observons et si nous pratiquons devant lui tous ses préceptes, selon qu'il nous l'a commandé.
