KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Have mercy upon us, O Lord God of all, and behold us:1 Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!
And send thy fear upon all the nations that seek not after thee.2 Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.
Lift up thy hand against the strange nations, and let them see thy power.3 As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.
As thou wast sanctified in us before them: so be thou magnified among them before us.4 Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.
And let them know thee, as we have known thee, that there is no God but only thou, O God.5 Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;
Shew new signs, and make other strange wonders: glorify thy hand and thy right arm, that they may set forth thy wondrous works.6 Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.
Raise up indignation, and pour out wrath: take away the adversary, and destroy the enemy.7 Hasten the day, bring on the time;
Sake the time short, remember the covenant, and let them declare thy wonderful works.8 Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.
Let him that escapeth be consumed by the rage of the fire; and let them perish that oppress the people.9 crush the heads of the hostile rulers.
Smite in sunder the heads of the rulers of the heathen, that say, There is none other but we.10 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,
Gather all the tribes of Jacob together, and inherit thou them, as from the beginning.11 Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you named your first-born.
O Lord, have mercy upon the people that is called by thy name, and upon Israel, whom thou hast named thy firstborn.12 Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.
O be merciful unto Jerusalem, thy holy city, the place of thy rest.13 Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.
Fill Sion with thine unspeakable oracles, and thy people with thy glory:14 Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,
Give testimony unto those that thou hast possessed from the beginning, and raise up prophets that have been in thy name.15 Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.
Reward them that wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found faithful.16 Hear the prayer of your servants, for you are ever gracious to your people;
O Lord, hear the prayer of thy servants, according to the blessing of Aaron over thy people, that all they which dwell upon the earth may know that thou art the Lord, the eternal God.17 Thus it will be known to the very ends of the earth that you are the eternal God.
The belly devoureth all meats, yet is one meat better than another.18 The throat can swallow any food, yet some foods are more agreeable than others;
As the palate tasteth divers kinds of venison: so doth an heart of understanding false speeches.19 As the palate tests meat by its savor, so does a keen mind insincere words.
A froward heart causeth heaviness: but a man of experience will recompense him.20 A deceitful character causes grief, but an experienced man can turn the tables on him.
A woman will receive every man, yet is one daughter better than another.21 Though any man may be accepted as a husband, yet one girl will be more suitable than another:
The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance, and a man loveth nothing better.22 A woman's beauty makes her husband's face light up, for it surpasses all else that charms the eye;
If there be kindness, meekness, and comfort, in her tongue, then is not her husband like other men.23 And if, besides, her speech is kindly, his lot is beyond that of mortal men.
He that getteth a wife beginneth a possession, a help like unto himself, and a pillar of rest.24 A wife is her husband's richest treasure, a helpmate, a steadying column.
Where no hedge is, there the possession is spoiled: and he that hath no wife will wander up and down mourning.25 A vineyard with no hedge will be overrun; a man with no wife becomes a homeless wanderer.
Who will trust a thief well appointed, that skippeth from city to city? so [who will believe] a man that hath no house, and lodgeth wheresoever the night taketh him?26 Who will trust an armed band that shifts from city to city?
[]27 Or a man who has no nest, but lodges where night overtakes him?
