KING JAMES BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.1 A deceitful balance is an abomination before the Lord: and a just weight is his will.
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.2 Where pride is, there also shall be reproach: but where humility is, there also is wisdom.
The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.3 The simplicity of the just shall guide them: and the deceitfulness of the wicked shall destroy them.
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.4 Riches shall not profit in the day of revenge: but justice shall deliver from death.
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.5 The justice of the upright shall make his way prosperous: and the wicked man shall fall by his own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.6 The justice of the righteous shall deliver them: and the unjust shall be caught in their own snares.
When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.7 When the wicked man is dead, there shall be no hope any more: and the expectation of the solicitous shall perish.
The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.8 The just is delivered out of distress: and the wicked shall be given up for him.
An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.9 The dissembler with his mouth deceiveth his friend: but the just shall be delivered by knowledge.
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.10 When it goeth well with the just the city shall rejoice: and when the wicked perish there shall be praise.
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.11 By the blessing of the just the city shall be exalted: and by the mouth of the wicked it shall be overthrown.
He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.12 He that despiseth his friend, is mean of heart: but the wise man will hold his peace.
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.13 He that walketh deceitfully, revealeth secrets: but he that is faithful, concealeth the thing committed to him by his friend.
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety.14 Where there is no governor, the people shall fall: but there is safety where there is much counsel.
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.15 He shall be afflicted with evil, that is surety for a stranger: but he that is aware of the snares, shall be secure.
A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.16 A gracious woman shall find glory: and the strong shall have riches.
The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.17 A merciful man doth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel casteth off even his own kindred.
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.18 The wicked maketh an unsteady work: but to him that soweth justice, there is a faithful reward.
As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.19 Clemency prepareth life: and the pursuing of evil things, death.
They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.20 A perverse heart is abominable to the Lord: and his will is in them that walk sincerely.
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.21 Hand in hand the evil man shall not be innocent: but the seed of the just shall be saved.
As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.22 A golden ring in a swine's snout, a woman fair and foolish.
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.23 The desire of the just is all good: the expectation of the wicked is indignation.
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.24 Some distribute their own goods, and grow richer: others take away what is not their own, and are always in want.
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.25 The soul which blesseth, shall be made fat: and he that inebriateth, shall be inebriated also himself.
He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.26 He that hideth up corn, shall be cursed among the people: but a blessing upon the head of them that sell.
He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.27 Well doth he rise early who seeketh good things; but he that seeketh after evil things shall be oppressed by them.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the just shall spring up as a green leaf.
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.29 He that troubleth his own house, shall inherit the winds: and the fool shall serve the wise.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.30 The fruit of the just man is a tree of life: and he that gaineth souls, is wise.
Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.31 If the just man receive in the earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner.
