1 In the hundred and one and fiftieth year Demetrius the son of Seleucus departed from Rome, and came up with a few men unto a city of the sea coast, and reigned there.	1 No ano cento e cinqüenta e um, Demétrio, filho de Seleuco, saiu da cidade de Roma e foi com um pequeno número de homens para uma cidade marítima, onde começou a reinar.
2 And as he entered into the palace of his ancestors, so it was, that his forces had taken Antiochus and Lysias, to bring them unto him.	2 Depois que ele entrou no reino de seus pais, o exército prendeu Antíoco e Lísias, para lhos trazer.
3 Wherefore, when he knew it, he said, Let me not see their faces.	3 Logo que soube disto, disse: Nem sequer os quero ver.
4 So his host slew them. Now when Demetrius was set upon the throne of his kingdom,	4 Então o exército matou-os, e Demétrio assentou-se sobre o trono do seu reino.
5 There came unto him all the wicked and ungodly men of Israel, having Alcimus, who was desirous to be high priest, for their captain:	5 Foram ter com ele todos os homens iníquos e ímpios de Israel, chefiados por Alcimo, que aspirava a ser sumo pontífice.
6 And they accused the people to the king, saying, Judas and his brethren have slain all thy friends, and driven us out of our own land.	6 Acusaram o povo diante do rei, dizendo: Judas e seus irmãos têm dado cabo de todos os teus amigos e expulsaram-nos da nossa terra.
7 Now therefore send some man whom thou trustest, and let him go and see what havock he hath made among us, and in the king's land, and let him punish them with all them that aid them.	7 Envia, pois, agora um homem, em quem tenhas confiança, a ver todo o estrago que nos têm feito a nós, e às províncias do rei, e a castigá-los, assim como a todos os seus auxiliares.
8 Then the king chose Bacchides, a friend of the king, who ruled beyond the flood, and was a great man in the kingdom, and faithful to the king,	8 O rei escolheu dentre os seus amigos a Báquides, que tinha o governo (das regiões) de além do rio, um dos grandes do reino e fiel ao rei, e enviou-o,
9 And him he sent with that wicked Alcimus, whom he made high priest, and commanded that he should take vengeance of the children of Israel.	9 juntamente com o ímpio Alcimo, para quem reservou o sumo pontificado, a reconhecer o estrago que Judas tinha feito, e ordenou-lhe que castigasse os filhos de Israel.
10 So they departed, and came with a great power into the land of Judea, where they sent messengers to Judas and his brethren with peaceable words deceitfully.	10 Partiram eles, pois, com um grande exército para a terra de Judá e enviaram mensageiros, que falaram a Judas e a seus irmãos, propondo-lhes condições de paz, com intenção de os enganar.
11 But they gave no heed to their words; for they saw that they were come with a great power.	11 Mas eles não deram ouvidos às suas palavras, por verem que tinham vindo com um poderoso exército.
12 Then did there assemble unto Alcimus and Bacchides a company of scribes, to require justice.	12 Entretanto um grupo de escribas foi ter com Alcimo e Báquides, a fim de lhes proporem o que fosse justo.
13 Now the Assideans were the first among the children of Israel that sought peace of them:	13 A frente desses filhos de Israel iam os, Assideus, os quais lhes pediam a paz,
14 For said they, One that is a priest of the seed of Aaron is come with this army, and he will do us no wrong.	14 porque diziam: É um sacerdote da linhagem de Aarão que vem com o exército; ele não nos fará mal.
15 So he spake unto them, peaceably, and sware unto them, saying, we will procure the harm neither of you nor your friends.	15 Alcimo falou-lhes com (todas as aparências de) paz e jurou-lhes: Não queremos fazer mal algum, nem a vós nem aos vossos amigos.
16 Whereupon they believed him: howbeit he took of them threescore men, and slew them in one day, according to the words which he wrote,	16 Eles deram-lhe crédito. Mas (Alcimo) fez prender sessenta homens deles e mandou-os matar num mesmo dia, segundo a palavra que está escrita (nos Salmos):
17 The flesh of thy saints have they cast out, and their blood have they shed round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them.	17 Entregaram (aos animais) a carne dos teus santos derramaram o seu sangue ao redor de Jerusalém, sem haver quem os sepultasse.
18 Wherefore the fear and dread of them fell upon all the people, who said, There is neither truth nor righteousness in them; for they have broken the covenant and oath that they made.	18 Então todo o povo foi tomado de grande temor e espanto, pois diziam: Não há entre eles verdade nem justiça, porque violaram a palavra dada e o juramento feito.
19 After this, removed Bacchides from Jerusalem, and pitched his tents in Bezeth, where he sent and took many of the men that had forsaken him, and certain of the people also, and when he had slain them, he cast them into the great pit.	19 Báquides partiu de Jerusalém e foi acampar junto de Bezeth, onde mandou prender muitos daqueles que tinham abandonado o seu partido, com alguns do povo, e lançar na grande cisterna.
20 Then committed he the country to Alcimus, and left with him a power to aid him: so Bacchides went to the king.	20 Depois disto, tendo confiado o país a Alcimo e deixado um corpo de tropas para o sustentar, Báquides voltou para junto do rei.
21 But Alcimus contended for the high priesthood.	21 Entretanto Alcimo fazia todos os esforços para se impor no pontificado supremo.
22 And unto him resorted all such as troubled the people, who, after they had gotten the land of Juda into their power, did much hurt in Israel.	22 Juntaram-se a ele todos os que perturbavam o seu povo, tornaram-se senhores do pais de Judá e causaram grandes estragos em Israel.
23 Now when Judas saw all the mischief that Alcimus and his company had done among the Israelites, even above the heathen,	23 Tendo Judas que todos os males, que Alcimo e os que com ele estavam tinham feito aos filhos de Israel, eram maiores do que os causados pelos gentios,
24 He went out into all the coasts of Judea round about, and took vengeance of them that had revolted from him, so that they durst no more go forth into the country.	24 percorreu todo o território da Judeia e deu e merecido castigo aos desertores (da causa da pátria), que foram impedidos de andar pelo país.
25 On the other side, when Alcimus saw that Judas and his company had gotten the upper hand, and knew that he was not able to abide their force, he went again to the king, and said all the worst of them that he could.	25 Quando Alcimo viu que Judas e a sua gente eram mais fortes, reconhecendo que não podia resistir-lhes, voltou para junto do rei e acusou-os de graves crimes.
26 Then the king sent Nicanor, one of his honourable princes, a man that bare deadly hate unto Israel, with commandment to destroy the people.	26 Então o rei mandou Nicanor, um dos seus mais ilustres generais, inimigo declarado de Israel, e deu-lhe ordem de acabar com este povo.
27 So Nicanor came to Jerusalem with a great force; and sent unto Judas and his brethren deceitfully with friendly words, saying,	27 Foi, pois, Nicanor a Jerusalém com um grande exército e deputou quem fosse ter com Judas e seus irmãos, para tratar de paz com engano,
28 Let there be no battle between me and you; I will come with a few men, that I may see you in peace.	28 dizendo: Não haja guerra entre mim e vós; eu virei com poucos homens a ver-vos pessoalmente e a falar-vos de paz.
29 He came therefore to Judas, and they saluted one another peaceably. Howbeit the enemies were prepared to take away Judas by violence.	29 Depois foi ter com Judas, e uns e outros se saudaram amigàvelmente, mas os inimigos estavam preparados para prender Judas.
30 Which thing after it was known to Judas, to wit, that he came unto him with deceit, he was sore afraid of him, and would see his face no more.	30 Judas, apenas soube que Nicanor tinha ido falar-Ihe com dolosa tenção, logo se temeu dele e não quis mais ver-lhe o rosto.
31 Nicanor also, when he saw that his counsel was discovered, went out to fight against Judas beside Capharsalama:	31 Nicanor reconheceu que estava descoberto o seu desígnio e marchou contra Judas, para lhe dar batalha junto de Cafarsalama.
32 Where there were slain of Nicanor's side about five thousand men, and the rest fled into the city of David.	32 Do exército de Nicanor caíram cerca de cinco mil homens, e os outros fugiram para a cidade de Davide.
33 After this went Nicanor up to mount Sion, and there came out of the sanctuary certain of the priests and certain of the elders of the people, to salute him peaceably, and to shew him the burnt sacrifice that was offered for the king.	33 Depois disto, Nicanor subiu ao monte Sião. Saíram do templo alguns dos sacerdotes com anciães do povo, para o saudarem em espirito de paz e mostrar-lhe os holocaustos, que se ofereciam pelo rei.
34 But he mocked them, and laughed at them, and abused them shamefully, and spake proudly,	34 Mas ele desprezou-os, fazendo zombaria, tratou-os desdenhosamente e falou-lhes com arrogância,
35 And sware in his wrath, saying, Unless Judas and his host be now delivered into my hands, if ever I come again in safety, I will burn up this house: and with that he went out in a great rage.	35 Jurando cheio de cólera: Se Judas se não entregar às minhas mãos com o seu exército, logo após a vitória queimarei este templo. E saiu todo enfurecido.
36 Then the priests entered in, and stood before the altar and the temple, weeping, and saying,	36 Então os sacerdotes entraram e apresentaram-se diante da face do altar e do templo, chorando e dizendo:
37 Thou, O Lord, didst choose this house to be called by thy name, and to be a house of prayer and petition for thy people:	37 Tu, Senhor, escolheste esta casa a fim de que nela fosse invocado o teu nome, como casa de oração e de súplica para o teu povo.
38 Be avenged of this man and his host, and let them fall by the sword: remember their blasphemies, and suffer them not to continue any longer.	38 Tira vingança deste homem e do seu exército. Pereçam ao fio da espada. Lembra-te das suas blasfêmias e não permitas que eles subsistam (sobre a terra).
39 So Nicanor went out of Jerusalem, and pitched his tents in Bethhoron, where an host out of Syria met him.	39 Nicanor saiu de Jerusalém e foi-acampar junto de Betoron, onde se juntou com ele um exército da Síria.
40 But Judas pitched in Adasa with three thousand men, and there he prayed, saying,	40 Judas acampou junto de Adasa com três mil homens e fez oração, nestes termos:
41 O Lord, when they that were sent from the king of the Assyrians blasphemed, thine angel went out, and smote an hundred fourscore and five thousand of them.	41 Senhor, quando os que o rei (Senaquerib) tinha enviado, blasfemaram contra ti, veio um anjo e matou deles cento e oitenta e cinco mil homens.
42 Even so destroy thou this host before us this day, that the rest may know that he hath spoken blasphemously against thy sanctuary, and judge thou him according to his wickedness.	42 Extermina hoje da mesma sorte este exército diante de nós, a fim de que saibam todos os outros que (Nicanor) falou mal contra o teu santuário; julga-o segundo a sua malícia.
43 So the thirteenth day of the month Adar the hosts joined battle: but Nicanor's host was discomfited, and he himself was first slain in the battle.	43 Deram os exércitos a batalha no dia treze do mês de Adar; o exército de Nicanor foi derrotado, sendo ele o primeiro a morrer no combate.
44 Now when Nicanor's host saw that he was slain, they cast away their weapons, and fled.	44 Vendo as tropas de Nicanor que este tinha morrido, largaram as armas e deitaram a fugir.
45 Then they pursued after them a day's journey, from Adasa unto Gazera, sounding an alarm after them with their trumpets.	45 (Os Judeus) foram no seu alcance durante um dia, desde Adasa até à entrada de Gazara, tocando as trombetas atrás deles.
46 Whereupon they came forth out of all the towns of Judea round about, and closed them in; so that they, turning back upon them that pursued them, were all slain with the sword, and not one of them was left.	46 Saíram então (os habitantes) de todas as aldeias da Judeia ao redor e envolveram-nos, fazendo-os retroceder para os vencedores, que os mataram a todos à espada, sem escapar um só.
47 Afterwards they took the spoils, and the prey, and smote off Nicanors head, and his right hand, which he stretched out so proudly, and brought them away, and hanged them up toward Jerusalem.	47 Apoderaram-se em seguida dos seus despojos e cortaram a cabeça a Nicanor, assim como a sua mão direita, que ele tinha estendido insolentemente (contra o templo); levaram-nas e penduraram-nas, à vista de Jerusalém.
48 For this cause the people rejoiced greatly, and they kept that day a day of great gladness.	48 Alegrou-se muito o povo, passando aquele dia num grande regozijo.
49 Moreover they ordained to keep yearly this day, being the thirteenth of Adar.	49 E ordenou-se que este mesmo dia seria celebrado todos os anos, como festivo, a treze do mês de Adar.
50 Thus the land of Juda was in rest a little while.	50 Depois disto, o país de Judá esteve em descanso durante um pequeno número de dias.
