KING JAMES BIBLEBiblia Matos Soares
When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;1 Ora, tendo ouvido Jetro, sacerdote de Madian, sogro de Moisés, tudo o que Deus tinha feito a Moisés e a Israel, seu povo, tirando-o do Egipto,
Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,2 tomou Séfora, mulher de Moisés, a qual ele lhe tinha deixado,
And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:3 e os dois filhos dela, um dos quais se chamava Gersão, por seu pai ter dito: "Eu fui peregrino numa terra estrangeira",
And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:4 e o outro (se chamava) Elieser, por seu pai ter dito: "O Deus de meu pai foi o meu defensor, e me salvou da espada de Faraó".
And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:5 Foi, pois, Jetro, sogro de Moisés, com seus filhos e sua mulher, ter com Moisés ao deserto, onde ele estava acampado junto ao monte de Deus,
And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.6 e mandou dizer a Moisés: Eu, Jetro, teu sogro, venho ter contigo com tua mulher e os teus dois filhos com ela.
And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.7 Moisés, saindo ao encontro de seu sogro, prostrou-se (diante dele) e o beijou, e saudaram-se mutuamente com palavras amigas. Tendo entrado na tenda,
And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.8 Moisés contou a seu sogro tudo o que o Senhor tinha feito contra Faraó e os Egípcios, por causa de Israel, todo o trabalho que lhe sobreviera no caminho, e como o Senhor os tinha livrado.
And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.9 Jetro alegrou-se por todos os bens que o Senhor tinha feito a Israel, e porque o tinha livrado da mão dos Egipcios,
And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.10 e disse: Bendito (seja) o Senhor, que vos livrou da mão dos Egípcios e da mão de Faraó, e que livrou o seu povo da mão dos Egípcios.
Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.11 Agora conheci que o Senhor é grande sobre todos os deuses, porque se mostrou grande quando os Egípcios oprimiam Israel.
And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.12 Jetro, sogro de Moisés, ofereceu a Deus holocaustos e hóstias, e Aarão e todos os anciães de Israel vieram comer com ele diante do Senhor.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.13 No dia seguinte, Moisés assentou-se para julgar o povo que esteve diante dele desde manhã até à tarde.
And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?14 Seu sogro, tendo visto tudo o que ele fazia com o povo disse: Que é isto que fazes com o povo? Por que te sentas só tu (no tribunal), e todo o povo está esperando desde manhã até à tarde?
And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:15 Moisés respondeu-lhe: O povo vem a mim para ouvir a sentença de Deus,
When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.16 Quando entre eles nasce alguma contenda, vêm ter comigo, para que eu julgue entre eles, e lhes mostre os preceitos de Deus e as suas leis.
And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.17 Mas Jetro disse: Não fazes bem.
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.18 Consomes-te com um trabalho vão, a ti e a este povo que está contigo: este trabalho é sobre as tuas forças, e tu só não o poderás aturar.
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to Godward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:19 Ouve as minhas palavras e conselhos, e Deus será contigo. Sê mediador do povo naquelas coisas que dizem respeito a Deus, para lhe expores os pedidos que lhe são dirigidos,
And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.20 e para ensinares ao povo as cerimônias e o modo de honrar a Deus, o caminho por onde devem andar e as obras que devem fazer.
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:21 Mas escolhe entre todo o povo homens capazes e tementes a Deus, nos quais haja verdade e que aborreçam a avareza: faz deles chefes de mil, de cem, de cinquenta e de dez homens,
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.22 os quais julguem o povo em todo o tempo, te dêem conta coisas mais graves, e eles julguem sòmente as coisas menos graves. Desta sorte o peso que te oprime será mais leve, sendo repartido com outros.
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.23 Se fizeres isto, cumprirás a ordem de Deus e poderás executar os seus preceitos: e todo este povo voltará em paz para as suas moradas.
So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.24 Moisés, tendo ouvido isto, fez tudo o que seu sogro lhe sugerira.
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.25 Tendo escolhido entre todo o povo de Israel homens de valor, constituiu chefes de mil, de cem, de cinqüenta e de dez homens.
And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.26 Eles faziam justiça ao povo em todo o tempo, e davam conta a Moisés de todas as coisas mais graves, julgando eles sòmente as mais fáceis.
And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.27 Moisés despediu-se de seu sogro, o qual voltou para o seu país.
