1 In the first year of Baltasar king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream: and the vision of his head was upon his bed: and writing the dream, he comprehended it in few words: and relating the sum of it in short, he said:	1 La première année de Baltassar, roi de Babylone, Daniel eut un songe ; il eut cette vision dans son lit ; et écrivant le songe, il le résuma en peu de mots et en marqua ainsi les principaux points :
2 I saw in my vision by night, and behold the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.	2 Je regardais dans ma vision nocturne, et voici, les quatre vents du ciel se combattaient sur la grande mer,
3 And four great beasts, different one from another, came up out of the sea.	3 et quatre grandes bêtes, différentes les unes des autres, montaient hors de la mer.
4 The first was like a lioness, and had the wings of an eagle: I beheld till her wings were plucked off, and she was lifted up from the earth, and stood upon her feet as a man, and the heart of a man was given to her.	4 La première était comme une lionne, et elle avait des ailes d'aigle ; je regardais, jusqu'à ce que ses ailes furent arrachées ; elle fut ensuite enlevée de terre, et elle se tint sur ses pieds comme un homme, et un cœur d'homme lui fut donné.
5 And behold another beast like a bear stood up on one side: and there were three rows in the mouth thereof, and in the teeth thereof, and thus they said to it: Arise, devour much flesh.	5 Et voici, une autre bête, semblable à un ours, se tenait sur son côté ; elle avait trois rang(ée)s de dents (et) dans la (sa) gueule, et on lui disait : Lève-toi, mange beaucoup de chair.
6 After this I beheld, and lo, another like a leopard, and it had upon it four wings as of a fowl, and the beast had four heads, and power was given to it.	6 Après cela je regardais, et voici, une autre était comme un léopard ; et elle avait au-dessus d'elle quatre ailes comme un oiseau ; cette bête avait quatre têtes, et la puissance lui fut donnée.
7 After this I beheld in the vision of the night, and lo, a fourth beast, terrible and wonderful, and exceeding strong, it had great iron teeth, eating and breaking in pieces, and treading down the rest with its feet: and it was unlike to the other beasts which I had seen before it, and had ten horns.	7 Après cela je regardais dans cette vision nocturne, et voici, il y avait une quatrième bête, terrible, et étonnante, et extraordinairement forte ; elle avait de grandes dents de fer ; elle dévorait, mettait en pièces et foulait aux pieds ce qui restait ; elle différait des autres bêtes que j'avais vues avant elle, et elle avait dix cornes.
8 I considered the horns, and behold another little horn sprung out of the midst of them: and three of the first horns were plucked up at the presence thereof: and behold eyes like the eyes of a man were in this horn, and a mouth speaking great things.	8 Je considérais les (ses) cornes, et voici, une autre petite corne sortit du milieu d'elles ; trois des premières cornes furent arrachées de devant elle ; et voici, cette corne avait des yeux comme les yeux d'un homme, et une bouche qui disait de grandes choses.
9 I beheld till thrones were placed, and the Ancient of days sat: his garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like clean wool: his throne like flames of fire: the wheels of it like a burning fire.	9 Je regardais, jusqu'à ce que des trônes furent placés, et l'Ancien des jours (un vieillard) s'assit. Son vêtement était blanc comme la neige, et les cheveux de sa tête comme de la laine pure ; son trône était comme des flammes ardentes, et les roues du trône comme un feu brûlant.
10 A swift stream of fire issued forth from before him: thousands of thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times a hundred thousand stood before him: the judgment sat, and the books were opened.	10 Un fleuve de feu, rapide, sortait de devant sa face ; mille (des milliers) milliers (d'anges) le servaient, et dix mille millions (de centaines de milliers d'anges) l'assistaient. Le jugement se tint, et les (des) livres furent ouverts.
11 I beheld because of the voice of the great words which that horn spoke: and I saw that the beast was slain, and the body thereof was destroyed, and given to the fire to be burnt:	11 Je regardais, à cause du bruit (de la voix) des grandes paroles que cette corne prononçait ; et je vis que la bête avait été (fut) tuée, que son corps était détruit et qu'il avait été livré pour être brûlé au feu ;
12 And that the power of the other beasts was taken away: and that times of life were appointed them for a time, and time.	12 je vis aussi que la puissance des autres bêtes leur avait été ôtée, et que la durée de leur vie leur avait été marquée jusqu'à un temps et un temps.
13 I beheld therefore in the vision of the night, and lo, one like the son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and he came even to the Ancient of days: and they presented him before him.	13 Je regardais donc dans cette vision nocturne, et voici, quelqu'un, semblable au (comme un) fils de (d'un) l'homme, venait avec les nuées du ciel, et il s'avança jusqu'à l'Ancien des jours (au vieillard). Ils le présentèrent devant lui,
14 And he gave him power, and glory, and a kingdom: and all peoples, tribes and tongues shall serve him: his power is an everlasting power that shall not be taken away: and his kingdom that shall not be destroyed.	14 et il lui donna la puissance, l'honneur et le royaume, et tous les peuples, les tribus et les langues le servirent ; sa puissance est une puissance éternelle qui ne lui sera pas ôtée, et son royaume ne sera jamais détruit.
15 My spirit trembled, I Daniel was affrighted at these things, and the visions of my head troubled me.	15 Mon esprit fut épouvanté ; moi, Daniel, je fus effrayé par ces choses, et les visions de mon esprit me troublèrent.
16 I went near to one of them that stood by, and asked the truth of him concerning all these things, and he told me the interpretation of the words, and instructed me:	16 Je m'approchai d'un de ceux qui étaient là, et je lui demandai la vérité sur toutes ces choses. Il m'interpréta ce qui se passait et me l'enseigna.
17 These four great beasts are four kingdoms, which shall arise out of the earth.	17 Ces quatre grandes bêtes sont quatre royaumes qui s'élèveront de la terre.
18 But the saints of the most high God shall take the kingdom: and they shall possess the kingdom for ever and ever.	18 Mais (Et) les saints du Dieu très-haut recevront le royaume, et ils obtiendront le royaume jusque dans les (jusqu'au) siècle(s) et les (au) siècle(s) des siècles.
19 After this I would diligently learn concerning the fourth beast. which was very different from all, and exceeding terrible: his teeth and claws were of iron: he devoured and broke in pieces, and the rest he stamped upon with his feet:	19 Ensuite je désirai vivement apprendre ce qu'était la quatrième bête qui était très différente de toutes les autres et extrêmement terrible, dont les dents et les ongles étaient de fer, qui dévorait et mettait en pièces, et qui foulait aux pieds ce qui restait.
20 And concerning the ten horns that he had on his head: and concerning the other that came up, before which three horns fell: and of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth speaking great things, and was greater than the rest.	20 Je voulus m'enquérir aussi des dix cornes qu'elle avait sur la tête, et de l'autre qui était sortie et devant laquelle trois de ces cornes étaient tournées, et de cette corne qui avait des yeux et une bouche proférant de grandes choses, et qui était plus grande que les autres.
21 I beheld, and lo, that horn made war against the saints, and prevailed over them,	21 Je regardai(s), et voici que cette corne faisait la guerre contre les saints et avait l'avantage sur eux,
22 Till the Ancient of days came and gave judgment to the saints of the most High, and the time came, and the saints obtained the kingdom.	22 jusqu'à ce que l'Ancien des jours (le vieillard) vint et donna le jugement aux saints du Très-Haut ; et le temps arriva où les saints obtinrent le royaume.
23 And thus he said: The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be greater than all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.	23 Et il me parla ainsi : La quatrième bête est un quatrième royaume qui existera sur la terre, et qui sera plus grand que tous les royaumes ; il dévorera toute la terre, la foulera aux pieds et la brisera.
24 And the ten horns of the same kingdom, shall be ten kings: and another shall rise up after them, and he shall be mightier than the former, and he shall bring down three kings.	24 Les dix cornes de ce même royaume, ce sont dix rois ; il s'en élèvera un autre après eux, et il sera plus puissant que les premiers, et il abaissera trois rois.
25 And he shall speak words against the High One, and shall crush the saints of the most High: and he shall think himself able to change times and laws, and they shall be delivered into his hand until a time, and times, and half a time.	25 Il proférera des paroles contre le Très-Haut, il écrasera les saints du Très-Haut, et il pensera qu'il pourra changer les temps et les lois ; et ils seront livrés entre ses mains pendant un temps et des temps, et la moitié d'un temps.
26 And judgment shall sit, that his power may be taken away, and be broken in pieces, and perish even to the end.	26 Alors le jugement se tiendra, afin que la puissance lui soit enlevée, qu'il soit détruit et qu'il disparaisse à jamais,
27 And that the kingdom, and power, and the greatness of the kingdom, under the whole heaven, may be given to the people of the saints of the most High: whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all kings shall serve him, and shall obey him.	27 et (mais) que le royaume, la puissance et la grandeur du royaume qui est sous tout le ciel, soient donnés au peuple des saints du Très-Haut ; son royaume est un royaume éternel, et tous les rois le serviront et lui obéiront.
28 Hitherto is the end of the word. I Daniel was much troubled with my thoughts, and my countenance was changed in me: but I kept the word in my heart.	28 Ce fut la fin de ce qui me fut dit. Moi, Daniel, j'étais fort troublé dans mes pensées, et mon visage en fut changé ; mais je conservai ces paroles dans mon cœur.
