1 The word that the Lord hath spoken against Babylon, and against the land of the Chaldeans in the hand of Jeremias the prophet.	1 Paroles que le Seigneur prononça sur Babylone et sur le pays des Chaldéens, par le prophète Jérémie.
2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish it, lift up a standard: proclaim, and conceal it not: say: Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is overthrown, their graven things are confounded, their idols are overthrown.	2 Annoncez-le parmi les nations, et faites-le entendre; levez l'étendard, publiez-le et ne le cachez pas; dites: Babylone a été prise; Bel est confondu, Mérodach est battu; ses statues sont brisées, ses idoles vaincues.
3 For a nation is come up against her out of the north, which shall make her land desolate: and there shall be none to dwell therein, from man even to beast:: yea they are removed, and gone away.	3 Car une nation monte contre elle de l'aquilon, et elle réduira son pays en désert, et il n'y aura plus ni homme ni bête qui y habite; ils se sont mis en mouvement, et ils sont partis.
4 In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Juda together: going and weeping they shall make haste, and shall seek the Lord their God.	4 En ces jours, et en ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, les enfants d'Israël et les enfants de Juda viendront ensemble; ils marcheront et ils accourront en pleurant, et ils chercheront le Seigneur leur Dieu;
5 They shall ask the way to Sion, their faces are hitherward. They shall come, and shall be joined to the Lord by an everlasting covenant, which shall never be forgotten.	5 ils demanderont le chemin de Sion, c'est de ce côté que sera tourné leur visage; ils viendront, et ils se réuniront au Seigneur par une alliance éternelle, dont la mémoire ne s'effacera jamais.
6 My people have been a lost flock, their shepherds have caused them to go astray, and have made them wander in the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place.	6 Mon peuple est devenu un troupeau de brebis perdues; leurs pasteurs les ont séduits, et les ont fait errer par les montagnes; ils ont passé des montagnes sur les collines, ils ont oublié leur demeure.
7 All that found them, have devoured them: and their enemies said: We have not sinned in so doing: because they have sinned against the Lord the beauty of justice, and against the Lord the hope of their fathers.	7 Tous ceux qui les ont trouvés les ont dévorés, et leurs ennemis ont dit: Nous ne sommes pas coupables, puisqu'ils ont offensé le Seigneur, la beauté de la justice; le Seigneur, l'attente de leurs pères.
8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans: and be ye as kids at the head of the flock.	8 Retirez-vous du milieu de Babylone, sortez du pays des Chaldéens, et soyez comme les boucs à la tête du troupeau.
9 For behold I raise up, and will bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north: and they shall be prepared against her, and from thence she shall be taken: their arrows, like those of a mighty man, a destroyer, shall not return in vain.	9 Car voici que Je vais susciter et amener contre Babylone une multitude de grandes nations du pays de l'aquilon; elles se prépareront contre elle, et elles la prendront; leurs flèches seront meurtrières comme celles d'un héros, elles ne reviendront pas à vide.
10 And Chaldea shall be made a prey: all that waste her shall be filled, saith the Lord.	10 Et la Chaldée sera livrée au pillage; tous ceux qui la dévasteront s'enrichiront, dit le Seigneur.
11 Because you rejoice, and speak great things, pillaging my inheritance: because you are spread abroad as calves upon the grass, and have bellowed as bulls.	11 Parce que vous êtes dans l'allégresse, et que vous parlez insolemment en pillant Mon héritage; parce que vous avez bondi comme des veaux sur l'herbe, et que vous avez mugi comme des taureaux;
12 Your mother is confounded exceedingly, and she that bore you is made even with the dust: behold she shall be the last among the nations, a wilderness unpassable, and dry.	12 votre mère a été couverte de confusion, celle qui vous a enfantés a été égalée à la poussière; voici qu'elle sera la dernière des nations, déserte, sans chemin et sans eau.
13 Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but shall be wholly desolate: every one that shall pass by Babylon, shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.	13 A cause de la colère du Seigneur, elle ne sera plus habitée, mais elle sera réduite tout entière en un désert; quiconque passera par Babylone sera dans la stupeur, et sifflera sur toutes ses plaies.
14 Prepare yourselves against Babylon round about, all you that bend the bow: fight against her, spare not arrows: because she hath sinned against the Lord.	14 Préparez-vous contre Babylone de tous côtés, vous tous qui lancez l'arc; combattez-la, n'épargnez pas les flèches, car elle a péché contre le Seigneur.
15 Shout against her, she hath every where given her hand, her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down, for it is the vengeance of the Lord. Take vengeance upon her: as she hath done, so do to her.	15 Criez contre elle; elle tend les mains de toutes parts; ses fondements se sont écroulés, ses murs sont renversés, car c'est la vengeance du Seigneur; vengez-vous d'elle, faites-lui comme elle a fait.
16 Destroy the sower out of Babylon, and him that holdeth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the sword of the dove every man shall return to his people, and every one shall flee to his own land.	16 Exterminez de Babylone celui qui sème,et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson; devant le glaive de la colombe chacun retournera à son peuple, et ils fuiront tous dans leur pays.
17 Israel is a scattered flock, the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria devoured him: and last this Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon hath broken his bones.	17 Israël est un troupeau dispersé, les lions l'ont chassé; le roi d'Assur l'a dévoré le premier; ce dernier, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, lui a brisé les os.
18 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold I will visit the king of Babylon and his land, as I have visited the king of Assyria.	18 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, Je visiterai le roi de Babylone et son pays, comme J'ai visité le roi d'Assur;
19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation: and he shall feed on Carmel, and Bason, and his soul shall be satisfied in mount Ephraim, and Galaad.	19 et Je ramènerai Israël dans sa demeure; il paîtra sur le Carmel et dans Basan, et son âme se rassasiera sur la montagne d'Ephraïm et dans Galaad.
20 In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none: and the sin of Juda, and there shall none be found: for I will be merciful to them, whom I shall leave.	20 En ces jours et en ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, on cherchera l'iniquité d'Israël, et elle ne sera plus; le péché de Juda, et on ne le trouvera pas, car Je serai propice à ceux que J'aurai laissés.
21 Go up against the land of the rulers, and punish the inhabitants thereof, waste, and destroy all behind them, saith the Lord: and do according to all that I have commanded thee.	21 Monte contre le pays des dominateurs, et visite ses habitants; disperse et tue ceux qui les suivent, dit le Seigneur, et fais tout ce que Je t'ai ordonné.
22 A noise of war in the land, and a great destruction.	22 Bruit de guerre dans le pays, et grand désastre.
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth broken, and destroyed! how is Babylon turned into a desert among the nations!	23 Comment le marteau de toute la terre a-t-il été brisé et broyé? comment Babylone a-t-elle été changée en désert parmi les nations?
24 I have caused thee to fall into a snare, and thou art taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware of it: thou art found and caught, because thou hast provoked the Lord.	24 Je t'ai tendu un piège, et tu as été prise, Babylone, sans t'en être aperçue; tu as été atteinte et saisie, parce que tu as provoqué le Seigneur.
25 The Lord hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his wrath : for the Lord the God of hosts hath a work to be done in the land of the Chaldeans.	25 Le Seigneur a ouvert Son trésor, et il en a tiré les armes de Sa colère, car le Seigneur, le Dieu des armées, a une oeuvre à accomplir dans le pays des Chaldéens.
26 Come ye against her from the uttermost borders: open that they may go forth that shall tread her down: take the stones out of the way, and make heaps, and destroy her: and let nothing of her be left.	26 Venez contre elle des extrémités du monde, ouvrez pour faire sortir ceux qui la fouleront aux pieds; ôtez les pierres des chemins et faites-en des monceaux; massacrez-la, et qu'il ne reste rien.
27 Destroy all her valiant men, let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them, for their day is come, the time of their visitation.	27 Exterminez tous ses héros, qu'ils descendent pour être égorgés; malheur à eux, car leur jour est venu, le temps où Dieu doit les visiter!
28 The voice of them that flee, and of them that have escaped out of the land of Babylon: to declare in Sion the revenge of the Lord our God, the revenge of his temple.	28 Bruit des fuyards, et de ceux qui se sont échappés du pays de Babylone, pour annoncer dans Sion la vengeance du Seigneur notre Dieu, la vengeance de Son temple.
29 Declare to many against Babylon, to all that bend the bow: stand together against her round about, and let nose escape; pay her according to her work: according to all that she hath done, do ye to her: for she hath lifted up herself against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.	29 Appelez en grand nombre contre Babylone tous ceux qui tendent l'arc; tenez-vous autour d'elle en cercle, et que personne n'échappe; rendez-lui selon ses oeuvres; faites-lui tout ce qu'elle a fait, car elle s'est élevée contre le Seigneur, contre le Saint d'Israël.
30 Therefore shall her young men fall in her streets: and all her men of war shall hold their peace in that day, saith the Lord.	30 C'est pourquoi ses jeunes gens tomberont dans ses places, et tous ses hommes de guerre se tairont en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur.
31 Behold I come against thee, O proud one, saith the Lord the God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time of thy visitation.	31 Voici que Je viens à toi, orgueilleux, dit le Seigneur, le Dieu des armées, car ton jour est venu, le temps où Je dois te visiter.
32 And the proud one shall fall, he shall fall down, and there shall be none to lift him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.	32 Et l'orgueilleux sera renversé, et tombera, et il n'y aura personne pour le relever; et Je mettrai le feu à ses villes, et il dévorera tous ses alentours.
33 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: The children of Israel, and the children of Juda are oppressed together: all that have taken them captives, hold them fast, they will not let them go.	33 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées: Les enfants d'Israël et les enfants de Juda souffrent ensemble la calomnie: tous ceux qui les ont pris les retiennent, et ne veulent point les relâcher.
34 Their redeemer is strong, the Lord of hosts is his name : he will defend their cause in judgment, to terrify the land, and to disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.	34 Leur Rédempteur est fort, Son nom est le Seigneur des armées; Il prendra en justice la défense de leur cause, pour épouvanter la terre, et pour faire trembler les habitants de Babylone.
35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.	35 Le glaive contre les Chaldéens, dit le Seigneur, et contre les habitants de Babylone, et contre ses princes, et contre ses sages.
36 A sword upon her diviners, and they shall be foolish: a sword upon her valiant ones, and they shall be dismayed.	36 Le glaive contre ses devins, qui deviendront insensés; le glaive contre ses héros, qui auront peur.
37 A sword upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the people that are in the midst of her: and they shall become as women: a sword upon her treasures, and they shall be made a spoil.	37 Le glaive contre ses chevaux, et contre ses chars, et contre tout le peuple qui est au milieu d'elle, et ils deviendront comme des femmes; le glaive contre ses trésors, qui seront pillés.
38 A drought upon her waters, and they shall be dried up: because it is a land of idols, and they glory in monstrous things.	38 La sécheresse viendra sur ses eaux, et elles se dessécheront, car c'est un pays d'idoles, et ils se glorifient en des monstres.
39 Therefore shall dragons dwell there with the fig fauns: and ostriches shall dwell therein, and it shall be no more inhabited for ever, neither shall it be built up from generation to generation.	39 C'est pourquoi les dragons y habiteront avec les faunes des figuiers, les autruches y habiteront; elle ne sera plus habitée à jamais, et elle ne sera pas rebâtie dans la suite de tous les siècles.
40 As the Lord overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha, and their neighbour cities, saith the Lord: no man shall dwell there, neither shall the son of man inhabit it.	40 De même que le Seigneur a renversé Sodome et Gomorrhe, et les villes voisines, dit le Seigneur, personne n'y habitera plus, et le fils de l'homme n'y résidera pas.
41 Behold a people cometh from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall rise from the ends of the earth.	41 Voici qu'un peuple vient de l'aquilon; une grande nation et des rois nombreux s'élèveront des extrémités de la terre.
42 They shall take the bow and the shield: they are cruel and unmerciful: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses: like a man prepared for battle against thee, O daughter of Babylon.	42 Ils prendront l'arc et le bouclier; ils sont cruels et impitoyables, leur voix retentira comme la mer; ils monteront sur leurs chevaux, comme un homme prêt à combattre contre toi, fille de Babylone.
43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands are grown feeble: anguish hath taken hold of him, pangs as a, woman in labour.	43 Le roi de Babylone a appris leur renommée, et ses mains sont demeurées sans force; l'angoisse l'a saisi, et la douleur comme une femme en travail.
44 Behold he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan to the strong and beautiful: for I will make him run suddenly upon her: and who shall be the chosen one whom I may appoint over her? for who is like to me? and who shall bear up against me? and who is that shepherd that can withstand my countenance?	44 Voici, comme un lion il montera de l'orgueil du Jourdain contre la puissante beauté, car Je le ferai accourir soudain sur elle. Et quel sera l'élu que Je mettrai à sa tête? Car qui est semblable à Moi? qui subsistera devant Moi? et quel est le pasteur qui pourra soutenir l'éclat de Ma face?
45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, which he hath taken against Babylon: and his thoughts which he hath thought against the land of the Chaldeans: surely the little ones of the flocks shall pull them down, of a truth their habitation shall be destroyed with them.	45 C'est pourquoi écoutez le dessein du Seigneur, qu'Il a formé dans Son esprit contre Babylone, et les pensées qu'Il a conçues contre le pays des Chaldéens: Je jure que les plus petits du troupeau les renverseront, et que leur demeure sera ruinée avec eux.
46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard amongst the nations.	46 Au bruit de la prise de Babylone la terre a été ébranlée, et des cris se sont fait entendre parmi les nations.
