Jeremiah 41

1 And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ismahel the son of Nathanias, the son of Elisama of the royal blood, and the nobles of the king, and ten men with him, came to Godolias the son of Ahicam into Masphath: and they ate bread there together in Masphath.	1 Or, au cours du septième mois, Ismaël fils de Nétanya, fils d’Élichama, qui était de la famille royale, arriva avec dix hommes pour rencontrer Godolias fils d’Ahikam à Mispa. Ils prirent ensemble un repas à Mispa,
2 And Ismahel the son of Nathanias arose, and the ten men that were with him, and they struck Godolias the son of Ahicam, the son of Saphan with the sword, and slew him whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.	2 et c’est alors qu’Ismaël, fils de Nétanya et les dix hommes qui étaient avec lui se levèrent pour frapper de leur épée Godolias fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, que le roi de Babylone avait établi sur le pays.
3 Ismahel slew also all the Jews that were with Godolias in Masphath, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the soldiers.	3 Ismaël frappa aussi tous les Judéens qui étaient avec Godolias à Mispa, ainsi que les Kaldéens qui se trouvaient là, tous hommes de guerre.
4 And on the second day after he had killed Godolias, no man yet knowing it,	4 Deux jours après l’assassinat de Godolias, comme personne ne le savait encore,
5 There came some from Sichem, and from Silo, and from Samaria, fourscore men, with their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and mourning: and they had offerings and incense in their hand, to offer in the house of the Lord.	5 des hommes de Sichem, de Silo et de Samarie, arrivèrent au nombre de 80; ils avaient la barbe rasée, les habits déchirés, le corps couverts d’entailles et ils portaient en mains une offrande et de l’encens pour le Temple de Yahvé.
6 And Ismahel the son of Nathanias went forth from Masphath to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and when he had met them, he said to them: Come to Godolias, the son of Ahicam.	6 Ismaël fils de Nétanya sortit de Mispa à leur rencontre alors qu’ils arrivaient en se lamentant, et il leur dit: “Venez voir Godolias fils d’Ahikam!”
7 And when they were come to the midst of the city, Ismahel the son of Nathanias, slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he and the men that were with him.	7 Mais comme ils arrivaient au milieu de la ville, Ismaël fils de Nétanya, avec la troupe qui l’accompagnait, entreprit d’égorger ces hommes au-dessus de la citerne.
8 But ten men were found among them, that said to Ismahel : Kill us not: for we have stores in the field, of wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey. And he forbore, and slew them not with their brethren.	8 Une dizaine d’entre eux dirent à Ismaël: “Ne nous fais pas mourir! Nous avons des provisions cachées dans la campagne, du blé, de l’orge, de l’huile et du miel.” Alors Ismaël arrêta le massacre et ils ne furent pas mis à mort comme leurs frères.
9 And the pit into which Ismahel cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he slew because of Godolias, is the same that king Asa made, for fear of Baasa the king of Israel: the same did Ismahel the son of Nathanias fill with them that were slain.	9 La citerne où Ismaël jeta les cadavres de ces hommes qu’il avait tués, était la grande citerne que le roi Aza avait fait creuser à cause de Bacha, roi d’Israël. Ismaël fils de Nétanya la remplit de ses victimes.
10 Then Ismahel carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Masphath : the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Masphath: whom Nabuzardan the general of the army had committed to Godolias the son of Ahicam. And Ismahel the son of Nathanias took them, and he departed, to go over to the children of Ammon.	10 Puis Ismaël emmena vers l’exil tout le reste du peuple qui était à Mispa, avec les filles du roi et tous ceux du peuple qui étaient encore à Mispa; tous ceux que Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, avait confiés à Godolias fils d’Ahikam. Ismaël fils de Nétanya les fit lever de bon matin pour se rendre chez les Ammonites.
11 But Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, heard of the evil that Ismahel the son of Nathanias had done.	11 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient avec lui apprirent tout le mal qu’Ismaël fils de Nétanya avait fait.
12 And taking all the men, they went out to fight against Ismahel the son of Nathanias, and they found him by the great waters that are in Gabaon.	12 Ils prirent tous leurs hommes et allèrent attaquer Ismaël fils de Nétanya; ils le rencontrèrent aux Grandes-Eaux de Gabaon.
13 And when all the people that were with Ismahel, had seen Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, they rejoiced.	13 En apercevant Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui l’accompagnaient, ceux qui étaient avec Ismaël furent remplis de joie.
14 And all the people whom Ismahel had taken, went back to Masphath: and they returned and went to Johanan the son of Caree.	14 Tous le peuple qu’Ismaël emmenait de Mispa vers l’exil changea de camp; ils se retournèrent et partirent vers Yohanan fils de Karéa.
15 But Ismahel the son of Nathanias fled with eight men, from the face of Johanan, and went to the children of Ammon.	15 Quant à Ismaël fils de Nétanya, il prit la fuite devant Yohanan et arriva chez les Ammonites avec huit hommes.
16 Then Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the soldiers that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom they had recovered from Ismahel the son of Nathanias, from Masphath, after that he had slain Godolias the son of Ahicam: valiant men for war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gabaon:	16 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient avec lui prirent avec eux le reste du peuple qu’ils avaient repris à Ismaël fils de Nétanya: c’était ceux qu’il avait emmenés de Mispa après avoir tué Godolias fils d’Ahikam; il y avait là des hommes de guerre, des femmes, des petits enfants et des eunuques qu’il avait ramenés de Gabaon.
17 And they departed, and sat as sojourners in Chamaam, which is near Bethlehem: in order to go forward, and enter into Egypt,	17 Ils se mirent en route et s’arrêtèrent au Khan de Kimhan, près de Bethléem; ensuite ils voulurent gagner l’Égypte
18 From the face of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ismahel the son of Nathanias had slain Godolias the son of Ahicam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor in the land of Juda.	18 à cause des Kaldéens. Ils en avaient peur du fait qu’Ismaël fils de Nétanya avait tué Godolias fils d’Ahikam, que le roi de Babylone avait établi sur le pays.
