Psalms 73

1 A psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them that are of a right heart!	1 Salmo. De Asaf. En verdad bueno es Dios para Israel, el Señor para los de puro corazón.
2 But my feet were almost moved; my steps had well nigh slipped.	2 Por poco mis pies se me extravían, nada faltó para que mis pasos resbalaran,
3 Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, seeing the prosperity of sinners.	3 celoso como estaba de los arrogantes, al ver la paz de los impíos.
4 For there is no regard to their death, nor is there strength in their stripes.	4 No, no hay congojas para ellos, sano y rollizo está su cuerpo;
5 They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men. B Therefore pride hath held them fast: they are covered with their iniquity and their wickedness.	5 no comparten la pena de los hombres, con los humanos no son atribulados.
6 dummy verses inserted by amos	6 Por eso el orgullo es su collar, la violencia el vestido que los cubre;
7 Their iniquity hath come forth, as it were from fatness: they have passed into the affection of the heart.	7 la malicia les cunde de la grasa, de artimañas su corazón desborda.
8 They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high.	8 Se sonríen, pregonan la maldad, hablan altivamente de violencia;
9 They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth.	9 ponen en el cielo su boca, y su lengua se pasea por la tierra.
10 Therefore will my people return here and full days shall be found in them.	10 Por eso mi pueblo va hacia ellos: aguas de abundancia les llegan.
11 And they said: How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?	11 Dicen: «¿Cómo va a saber Dios? ¿Hay conocimiento en el Altísimo?»
12 Behold these are sinners; and yet abounding in the world they have obtained riches.	12 Miradlos: ésos son los impíos, y, siempre tranquilos, aumentan su riqueza.
13 And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent.	13 ¡Así que en vano guardé el corazón puro, mis manos lavando en la inocencia,
14 And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings.	14 cuando era golpeado todo el día, y cada mañana sufría mi castigo!
15 If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children.	15 Si hubiera dicho: «Voy a hablar como ellos», habría traicionado a la raza de tus hijos;
16 I studied that I might know this thing, it is a labour in my sight:	16 me puse, pues, a pensar para entenderlo, ¡ardua tarea ante mis ojos!
17 Until I go into the sanctuary of God, and understand concerning their last ends.	17 Hasta el día en que entré en los divinos santuarios, donde su destino comprendí:
18 But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: when they were lifted up thou hast cast them down.	18 oh, sí, tú en precipicios los colocas, a la ruina los empujas.
19 How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: they have perished by reason of their iniquity.	19 ¡Ah, qué pronto quedan hechos un horror, cómo desaparecen sumidos en pavores!
20 As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing.	20 Como en un sueño al despertar, Señor, así, cuando te alzas, desprecias tú su imagen.
21 For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed:	21 Sí, cuando mi corazón se exacerbaba, cuando se torturaba mi conciencia,
22 and I am brought to nothing, and I knew not.	22 estúpido de mí, no comprendía, una bestia era ante ti.
23 I am become as a beast before thee: and I am always with thee.	23 Pero a mí, que estoy siempre contigo, de la mano derecha me has tomado;
24 Thou hast held me by my right hand; and by thy will thou hast conducted me, and with thy glory thou hast received me.	24 me guiarás con tu consejo, y tras la gloria me llevarás.
25 For what have I in heaven? and besides thee what do I desire upon earth?	25 ¿Quién hay para mí en el cielo? Estando contigo no hallo gusto ya en la tierra.
26 For thee my flesh and my heart hath fainted away: thou art the God of my heart, and the God that is my portion for ever.	26 Mi carne y mi corazón se consumen: ¡Roca de mi corazón, mi porción, Dios por siempre!
27 For behold they that go far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that are disloyal to thee.	27 Sí, los que se alejan de ti perecerán, tú aniquilas a todos los que te son adúlteros.
28 But it is good for me to adhere to my God, to put my hope in the Lord God: That I may declare all thy praises, in the gates of the daughter of Sion.	28 Mas para mí, mi bien es estar junto a Dios; he puesto mi cobijo en el Señor, a fin de publicar todas tus obras.
