DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 But Job answered, and said:	1 Rispose Iob, e disse:
2 O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance.	2 Dio il volesse, che li peccati miei fossero a peso, per li quali io meritai l'ira; e la miseria, ch' io patisco, nella stadera.
3 As the sand of the sea this would appear heavier: therefore my words are full of sorrow :	3 Quasi come l'arena del mare, questa è più grave; donde le parole mie di dolore sono piene.
4 For the arrows of the Lord are in me, the rage whereof drinketh up my spirit, and the terrors of the Lord war against me.	4 Però che le saette del Signore in me sono, le indignazioni delle quali ha bevuto lo spirito mio; e le paure del (nostro) Signore cavalcano contro a me.
5 Will the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or will the ox low when he standeth before a full manger?	5 Or raggirà l'asino, quando avrà l'erba? e muggerà lo bue, quando starà dinanzi alla mangiatoia piena?
6 Or can an unsavoury thing be eaten, that is not seasoned with salt? or can a man taste that which when tasted bringeth death?	6 Ovvero puote alcuno assaggiare quello che non era salato? (senza sale). Ovvero puote alcuno assaggiare quello, lo qual assaggiato dà la morte?
7 The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish are my meats.	7 (All' anima dello affamato ancora quelle cose che sono amare paiono dolci), quelle cose le quali in prima non volea toccare l'anima mia, ora per l'angoscia i cibi miei sono.
8 Who will grant that my request may come: and that God may give me what I look for?	8 Chi mi dà, che venghi a me la petizione mia, e quello ch' io aspetto dia a me Iddio?
9 And that he that hath begun may destroy me, that he may let loose his hand, and cut me off?	9 E colui che cominciò, lui mi fracassi, sciolga la mano sua e uccida me?
10 And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not, nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.	10 E questo sarà a me consolazione, che tormentato me con dolore, non mi perdoni; e non contraddicerò alle parole del Santo.
11 For what is my strength, that I can hold out? or what is my end that I should keep patience?	11 Che è adunque la fortezza mia, acciò ch' io sostenga? O vero quale è lo mio fine, ch' io mi stia pazientemente?
12 My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh of brass.	12 Nè anco la fortezza mia è fortezza di pietre; nè anco la carne mia è di metallo.
13 Behold there is no help for me in myself, and my familiar friends also are departed from me.	13 Ecco, non è a me aiuto in me, e (alle mie cose bisognevoli) li miei amici si partiro da me.
14 He that taketh away mercy from his friend, forsaketh the fear of the Lord.	14 E colui che toglie dall' amico suo la misericordia, la paura del Signore abbandona.
15 My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.	15 Li fratelli miei trapassarono me, sì come il torrente che ratto passa nella valle.
16 They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.	16 Coloro che temono la brinata, cadrà sopra loro la neve.
17 At the time when they shall be scattered they shall perish: and after it groweth hot they shall be melted out of their place.	17 Nel tempo, nel quale saranno dissipati, periranno; e quando si scalderanno, saranno disciolti del suo luogo.
18 The paths of their steps are entangled: they shall walk in vain, and shall perish.	18 Involte sono le vie delli andamenti loro; anderanno in vôto, e periranno.
19 Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.	19 Considerate le vie di Tema, e gli andamenti di Saba; e aspettate uno poco.
20 They are confounded, because I have hoped: they are come also even unto me, and are covered with shame.	20 Confusi sono, perciò ch' io sperai; in verità vennero insino a me, e di vergogna coperti sono.
21 Now you are come: and now seeing my affliction you are afraid.	21 Ora siete venuti; e ora vedete la piaga mia, e temete.
22 Did I say: Bring to me, and give me of your substance?	22 Or non vi dissi: arrecate a me, e della sostanza vostra donate a me.
23 Or deliver me from the hand of the enemy, and rescue me out of the hand of the mighty?	23 O veramente: liberatemi della mano del nimico, e della mano delli robusti scampate me.
24 Teach me, and I will hold my peace: and if I have been ignorant in any thing, instruct me.	24 Ammaestrate me, e io tacerò; e se per avventura alcuna cosa io non ho saputo, ammaestratemi.
25 Why have you detracted the words of truth, whereas there is none of you that can reprove me?	25 Perchè detraeste alle parole della veritade, conciosia cosa che non sia alcuno di voi che mi possa riprendere?
26 You dress up speeches only to rebuke, and you utter words to the wind.	26 Di riprendere solamente lo parlare ragionevole voi fabbricate, e le parole alli venti voi proferite.
27 You rush in upon the fatherless, and you endeavour to overthrow your friend.	27 Sopra lo pupillo rovinate, e di subvertere vi sforzate l'amico vostro.
28 However finish what you have begun, give ear, and see whether I lie.	28 Ma impertanto quello che avete cominciato, compietelo; date le orecchie, e vedete se io mento.
29 Answer, I beseech you, without contention: and speaking that which is just, judge ye.	29 Rispondete, io ve ne prego, senza contenzione; e favellate, e quello ch' è giusto giudicate.
30 And you shall not And iniquity in my tongue, neither shall folly sound in my mouth.	30 E non troverete nella lingua mia iniquitade, nè nelle mascelle mie risuonerà sciocchezza.
