DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Knowest thou the time when the wild goats bring forth among the rocks, or hast thou observed the hinds when they fawn?	1 Conosci tu il tempo in cui partoriscono le camozze? Hai osservato il parto delle cerve?
2 Hast thou numbered the months of their conceiving, or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?	2 Sai contare i mesi della loro gravidanza e conosci il tempo del loro parto?
3 They bow themselves to bring forth young, and they cast them, and send forth roarings.	3 Si curvano sgravandosi dei loro piccoli, mettendo fine alle loro doglie.
4 Their young are weaned and go to feed : they go forth, and return not to them.	4 I loro piccoli crescono, si sviluppano, corrono all'aperto e non ritornano più.
5 Who hath sent out the wild ass free, and who hath loosed his bonds?	5 Chi lascia libero l'asino selvatico, chi ha sciolto i legami dell'onagro,
6 To whom I have given a house in the wilderness, and his dwellings in the barren land.	6 al quale ho assegnato come dimora la steppa e come abitazione la terra salmastra?
7 He scorneth the multitude of the city, he heareth not the cry of the driver.	7 Egli disprezza il chiasso delle città e non dà ascolto alle grida di chi lo sprona;
8 He looketh round about the mountains of his pasture, and seeketh for every green thing.	8 gira per le montagne, suo pascolo, andando in cerca di qualsiasi verdura.
9 Shall the rhinoceros be willing to serve thee, or will he stay at thy crib?	9 Il bufalo si metterà forse al tuo servizio, e passerà la notte presso la tua greppia?
10 Canst thou bind the rhinoceros with thy thong to plough, or will he break the clods of the valleys after thee?	10 Potrai legarlo con la corda, perché ari, perché erpichi le valli dietro a te?
11 Wilt thou have confidence in his great strength, and leave thy labours to him?	11 Ti fiderai di lui, perché la sua forza è grande, e lascerai a lui le tue fatiche?
12 Wilt thou trust him that he will render thee the seed, and gather it into thy barnfloor?	12 Conterai su di lui che ritorni e che ti ammassi il grano sull'aia?
13 The wing of the ostrich is like the wings of the heron, and of the hawk.	13 L'ala dello struzzo batte festante, come se avesse penne e piume di cicogna,
14 When she leaveth her eggs on the earth, thou perhaps wilt warm them in the dust.	14 quando abbandona al suolo le uova e le lascia riscaldare nella sabbia,
15 She forgetteth that the foot may tread upon them, or that the beasts of the field may break them.	15 dimenticando che un piede le può schiacciare e una bestia selvatica calpestarle.
16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers, she hath laboured in vain, no fear constraining her.	16 Tratta duramente i figli, come se non fossero suoi, e non si preoccupa della sua inutile fatica,
17 For God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he given her understanding.	17 perché Dio gli ha negato la sapienza e non gli ha dato in sorte l'intelligenza.
18 When time shall be, she setteth up her wings on high : she scorneth the horse and his rider.	18 Ma appena si leva in alto, si beffa del cavallo e del suo cavaliere.
19 Wilt thou give strength to the horse, or clothe his neck with neighing?	19 Sei tu che dai al cavallo la bravura e lo rivesti di criniera al collo?
20 Wilt thou lift him up like the locusts? the glory of his nostrils is terror.	20 Lo fai tu saltare come una locusta? Il suo alto nitrito incute spavento.
21 He breaketh up the earth with his hoof, he pranceth boldly, he goeth forward to meet armed men.	21 Scalpita nella valle, giulivo, e con impeto si fa incontro alle armi.
22 He despiseth fear, he turneth not his back to the sword,	22 Se ne ride della paura e non trema; non retrocede davanti alla spada.
23 Above him shall the quiver rattle, the spear and shield shall glitter.	23 Sopra di lui tintinna la faretra, il luccichio della lancia e del dardo.
24 Chasing and raging he swalloweth the ground, neither doth he make account when the noise of the trumpet soundeth.	24 Fremendo d'impazienza divora lo spazio e non si trattiene più al suono del corno.
25 When he heareth the trumpet he saith : Ha, ha : he smelleth the battle afar off, the encouraging of the captains, and the shouting of the army.	25 Al primo squillo di tromba nitrisce: Ahaa! e da lungi fiuta la battaglia, gli urli dei capi, il fragore della mischia.
26 Doth the hawk wax feathered by thy wisdom, spreading her wings to the south?	26 E' forse per la tua intelligenza che vola lo sparviero e spiega le sue ali verso il meridione?
27 Will the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest in high places?	27 E' al tuo comando che l'aquila s'innalza e costruisce il suo nido sulle vette?
28 She abideth among the rocks, and dwelleth among cragged flints, and stony hills, where there is no access.	28 Abita le rocce e vi pernotta su un dente di roccia inespugnabile.
29 From thence she looketh for the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.	29 Da lassù spia la sua preda, i suoi occhi la vedono a distanza.
30 Her young ones shall suck up blood : and wheresoever the carcass shall be, she is immediately there.	30 I suoi piccoli succhiano il sangue; dove sono i cadaveri, là essa si trova".
31 And the Lord went on, and said to Job :
32 Shall he that contendeth with God be so easily silenced? surely he that reproveth God, ought to answer him.
33 Then Job answered the Lord, and said :
34 One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said : and another, to which I will add no more.
