1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying: We are thy bone, and thy flesh.	1 Tutto Israele si radunò presso Davide a Ebron e gli dissero: "Ecco, noi siamo le tue ossa e la tua carne.
2 Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them.	2 Già nel passato, quando c'era re Saul, tu guidavi Israele nei suoi movimenti. Inoltre il Signore, tuo Dio, ti ha promesso: "Tu pascerai il mio popolo Israele, e sarai principe sul mio popolo Israele".
3 So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.	3 Tutti gli anziani d'Israele si radunarono presso il re a Ebron e Davide concluse con essi un patto in Ebron al cospetto del Signore. Allora unsero Davide come re su Israele, secondo la parola del Signore pronunciata per mezzo di Samuele.
4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land.	4 Davide con tutto Israele marciò contro Gerusalemme, cioè Gebus; ivi risiedevano i Gebusei, abitanti della regione.
5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David.	5 Gli abitanti di Gebus dissero a Davide: "Non entrerai qui". Ma Davide espugnò la fortezza di Sion, che è la Città di Davide.
6 And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.	6 Egli aveva detto: "Chiunque colpirà per primo i Gebusei, diventerà capo e principe". Salì per primo Ioab, figlio di Zeruià, che divenne così capo.
7 And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David.	7 Davide si stabilì nella fortezza, che per questo fu chiamata Città di Davide.
8 And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city.	8 Riedificò poi la città tutt'intorno dal Millo fino alla periferia, mentre Ioab restaurò il resto della città;
9 And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him.	9 Davide diventava sempre più potente e il Signore degli eserciti era con lui.
10 These are the chief of the valiant men of David, who helped him to be made king over all Israel, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke to Israel.	10 Questi sono i capi dei prodi di Davide, che insieme a lui divennero potenti nel suo regno e insieme con tutto Israele lo avevano fatto re secondo la parola di Dio nei riguardi d'Israele.
11 And this is the number of the heroes of David: Jesbaam the son of Hachamoni the chief among the thirty: he lifted up his spear against three hundred wounded by him at one time.	11 Ecco l'elenco dei prodi di Davide: Iasobeam figlio di un cacmonita, capo dei Tre; è colui che brandì la sua lancia contro trecento vittime in una sola volta.
12 And after him was Eleazar his uncle's son the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.	12 Dopo di lui Eleazaro, figlio di Dodo, l'achochita; era uno dei tre prodi.
13 He was with David in Phesdomim, when the Philistines were gathered to that place to battle: and the field of that country was full of barley, and the people fled from before the Philistines.	13 Si trovò insieme a Davide a Pas-Dammim, dove i Filistei si erano radunati per far guerra e dove c'era un appezzamento di terra pieno di orzo. Mentre la truppa fuggiva di fronte ai Filistei,
14 But these men stood in the midst of the field, and defended it: and they slew the Philistines, and the Lord gave a great deliverance to his people.	14 egli si piantò in mezzo a quel tratto di campo e lo difese, colpendo i Filistei. Così il Signore operò una grande vittoria.
15 And three of the thirty captains went down to the rock, wherein David was, to the cave of Odollam, when the Philistines encamped in the valley of Raphaim.	15 Tre dei trenta capi scesero sulla roccia presso Davide, nella grotta di Adullàm, mentre il campo dei Filistei si era stabilito nella valle di Rèfaim.
16 And David was in a hold, and the garrison of the Philistines in Bethlehem.	16 Davide si trovava allora nella fortezza, mentre un presidio dei Filistei si trovava a Betlemme.
17 And David longed, and said: O that some man would give me water of the cistern of Bethlehem, which is in the gate.	17 Davide ebbe un desiderio che formulò così: "Chi mi darà da bere acqua della cisterna di Betlemme, che si trova presso la porta?".
18 And these three broke through the midst of the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem, which was in the gate, and brought it to David to drink: and he would not drink of it, but rather offered it to the Lord,	18 I Tre, allora, fatta irruzione nel campo dei Filistei, attinsero l'acqua dalla cisterna di Betlemme, che si trova presso la porta, la portarono e la presentarono a Davide, che però non volle berla e ne fece una libazione al Signore.
19 Saying: God forbid that I should do this in the sight of my God, and should drink the blood of these men: for with the danger of their lives they have brought me the water. And therefore he would not drink. These things did the three most valiant.	19 Egli disse: "Mi guardi il mio Dio dal fare una cosa simile! Posso forse bere il sangue di quegli uomini insieme col prezzo della loro vita? Difatti l'hanno portata a prezzo della loro vita". Per questo non volle berla. Ecco ciò che compirono i tre prodi.
20 And Abisai the brother of Joab, he was chief of three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred whom he slew, and he was renowned among the three,	20 Abisài, fratello di Ioab, era capo dei Trenta; egli brandì la sua lancia contro trecento vittime facendosi un nome fra i Trenta.
21 And illustrious among the second three, and their captain: but yet he attained not to the first three.	21 Fu doppiamente stimato fra i trenta e fu loro capo, ma non raggiunse i tre eroi.
22 Banaias the son of Joiada, a most valiant man, of Cabseel, who had done many acts: he slew the two ariels of Moab: and he went down, and killed a lion in the midst of a pit in the time of snow.	22 Benaià, da Kazbeèl, figlio di Ioiadà, uomo valoroso, ricco di prodezze, uccise i due figli di Arièl di Moab; inoltre egli in un giorno di neve discese in una cisterna ed ivi abbatté un leone.
23 And he slew an Egyptian, whose stature was of five cubits, and who had a spear like a weaver's beam: and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked away the spear, that he held in his hand, and slew him with his own spear.	23 Fu lui che uccise anche un egiziano dalla statura alta cinque cubiti, che teneva in mano una lancia come un subbio da tessitore; egli scese contro di lui con un bastone, strappò la lancia dalla mano dell'egiziano e lo uccise con quella sua stessa lancia.
24 These things did Banaias the son of Joiada, who was renowned among the three valiant ones,	24 Ecco ciò che compì Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà; egli si fece un nome fra i trenta prodi.
25 And the first among the thirty, but yet to the three he attained not: and David made him of his council.	25 Fu onorato più che i Trenta, ma non raggiunse i tre eroi. Davide lo costituì capo della sua guardia di corpo.
26 Moreover the most valiant men of the army, were Asahel brother of Joab, and Elchanan the son of his uncle of Bethlehem,	26 Ecco i prodi valorosi: Asael fratello di Ioab, Elcanan figlio di Dodo, di Betlemme,
27 Sammoth an Arorite, Helles a Phalonite,	27 Sammot di Charod, Chelez di Pelet,
28 Ira the son of Acces a Thecuite, Abiezer an Anathothite,	28 Ira figlio di Ikkes di Tekoa, Abiezer di Anatòt,
29 Sobbochai a Husathite, Ilai an Ahohite,	29 Sibbekai di Cusa, Ilai di Acoch,
30 Maharai a Netophathite, Heled the son of Baana a Netophathite,	30 Macrai di Netofa, Cheled figlio di Baana, di Netofa,
31 Ethai the son of Ribai of Gabaath of the sons of Benjamin, Banal a Pharathonite,	31 Itai figlio di Ribai, di Gàbaa dei figli di Beniamino, Benaia di Piraton,
32 Hurai of the torrent Gaas, Abiel an Arbathite, Azmoth a Bauramite, Eliaba a Salabonite,	32 Curai di Nacale-Gaas, Abiel di Arbot,
33 The sons of Assem a, Gezonite, Jonathan the son of Sage an Ararite,	33 Azmavet di Bacurim, Eliacba di Saalbon,

43 Hanan the son of Maacha, and Josaphat a Mathanite,	43 Canan, figlio di Maaca, Giosafat di Meten,
44 Ozia an Astarothite, Samma, and Jehiel the sons of Hotham an Arorite,	44 Uzzia di Astarot, Sama e Ieiel, figli di Cotam di Aroer,
45 Jedihel the son of Zamri, and Jobs his brother a Thosaite,	45 Iediael figlio di Simri e Ioca suo fratello, di Tisi,
46 Eliel a Mithumite, and Jeribai, and Josaia the sons of Elnaim, and Jethma a Moabite, Eliel, and Obed, and Jasiel of Masobia.	46 Eliel di Macavim, Ieribai e Osea, figli di Elnaam, Itma il moabita,
