DOUAI-RHEIMSEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
And it came to pass after this that David defeated the Philistines, and brought them down, and David took the bridle of tribute out of the hand of the Philistines.1 Después de esto, David derrotó a los filisteos y los sometió, despojándolos de su hegemonía.
And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the earth: and he measured with two lines, one to put to death, and one to save alive: and Moab was made to serve David under tribute.2 También derrotó a los moabitas y, haciéndolos echarse en tierra, los midió con una cuerda: a lo largo de dos cuerdas, los hizo matar; y a lo largo de una cuerda completa, les perdonó la vida. Los moabitas pasaron a ser vasallos de David, sometidos a tributo.
David defeated also Adarezer the son of Rohob king of Soba, when he went to extend his dominion over the river Euphrates.3 David derrotó a Hadadézer, hijo de Rejob, rey de Sobá, cuando este iba a restablecer su dominio sobre el Río.
And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, and houghed all the chariot horses: and only reserved of them for one hundred chariots.4 Capturó mil setecientos soldados de caballería y veinte mil hombres de a pie, y mutiló todos los caballos de los carros de guerra, reservándose sólo cien.
And the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Adarezer the king of Soba: and David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.5 Los arameos de Damasco acudieron en auxilio de Hadadézer, rey de Sobá, pero David derrotó a veintidós mil de esos arameos.
And David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and Syria served David under tribute: and the Lord preserved David in all his enterprises, whithersoever he went.6 Luego puso gobernadores en Aram de Damasco, y los arameos pasaron a ser vasallos de David, sometidos a tributo. El Señor daba la victoria a David en todas sus campañas.
And David took the arms of gold, which the servants of Adarezer wore, and brought them to Jerusalem.7 David se apoderó de los escudos de oro que llevaban los oficiales de Hadadézer, y se los llevó a Jerusalén.
And out of Bete, and out of Beroth, cities of Adarezer, king David took an exceeding great quantity of brass.8 De Tébaj y de Berotai, ciudades de Hadadézer, el rey David se trajo una enorme cantidad de bronce.
And Thou the king of Emath heard that David had defeated all the forces of Adarezer.9 Cuando Tou, rey de Jamat, oyó que David había derrotado a todo el ejército de Hadadézer,
And Thou sent Joram his son to king David, to salute him, and to congratulate with him, and to return him thanks: because he had fought against Adarezer, and had defeated him. For Thou was an enemy to Adarezer, and in his hand were vessels of gold, and vessels of silver, and vessels of brass:10 le envió a su hijo Ioram, para saludarlo y felicitarlo por haber hecho la guerra y derrotado a Hadadézer, ya que este era su rival. Ioram llevó consigo objetos de plata, oro y bronce,
And king David dedicated them to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all the nations, which he had subdued:11 y el rey David consagró también esos objetos, como lo había hecho con la plata y el oro provenientes de todas las naciones que había sometido:
Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalec, and of the spoils of Adarezer the son of Rohob king of Soba.12 de Aram, de Moab, de los amonitas, de los filisteos y de Amalec, como asimismo del botín de Hadadézer, hijo de Rejob, rey de Sobá.
David also made himself a name, when he returned after taking Syria in the valley of the saltpits, killing eighteen thousand:13 David adquirió gran renombre cuando volvió de derrotar a dieciocho mil arameos en el valle de la Sal.
And he put guards in Edom, and placed there a garrison: and all Edom was made to serve David: and the Lord preserved David in all enterprises he went about.14 Además, puso gobernadores en Edom, estableciéndolos por todo el país, y todos los edomitas pasaron a ser vasallos de David. El Señor daba la victoria a David en todas sus campañas.
And David reigned over all Israel: and David did judgment and justice to all his people.15 David reinó sobre todo Israel, y administraba el derecho y la justicia a todo su pueblo.
And Joab the son of Sarvia was over the army: and Josaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:16 Joab, hijo de Seruiá, era el comandante del ejército; Josafat, hijo de Ajilud, el heraldo;
And Sadoc the son of Achitob, and Achimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests: and Saraias was the scribe:17 Sadoc y Abiatar, hijo de Ajimélec, hijo de Ajitub, eran sacerdotes; Seraías, el secretario;
And Banaias the son of Joiada was over the Cerethi and Phelethi: and the sons of David were the princes.18 Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, comandaba a los quereteos y peleteos; y los hijos de David eran sacerdotes.
