EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 La Ley, en efecto –al no tener más que la sombra de los bienes futuros y no la misma realidad de las cosas– con los sacrificios repetidos año tras año en forma ininterrumpida, es incapaz de perfeccionar a aquellos que se acercan a Dios.	1 For the law contains the shadow of future good things, not the very image of these things. So, by the very same sacrifices which they offer ceaselessly each year, they can never cause these to approach perfection.
2 De lo contrario, no se hubieran ofrecido más esos sacrificios, porque los que participan de ellos, al quedar purificados una vez para siempre, ya no tendrían conciencia de ningún pecado.	2 Otherwise, they would have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, once cleansed, would no longer be conscious of any sin.
3 En cambio, estos sacrificios renuevan cada año el recuerdo del pecado,	3 Instead, in these things, a commemoration of sins is made every year.
4 porque es imposible que la sangre de toros y chivos quite los pecados.	4 For it is impossible for sins to be taken away by the blood of oxen and goats.
5 Por eso, Cristo, al entrar en el mundo, dijo: "Tú no has querido sacrificio ni oblación; en cambio, me has dado un cuerpo.	5 For this reason, as Christ enters into the world, he says: “Sacrifice and oblation, you did not want. But you have fashioned a body for me.
6 No has mirado con agrado los holocaustos ni los sacrificios expiatorios.	6 Holocausts for sin were not pleasing to you.
7 Entonces dije: Aquí estoy, yo vengo –como está escrito de mí en el libro de la Ley– para hacer, Dios, tu voluntad".	7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I draw near.’ At the head of the book, it has been written of me that I should do your will, O God.”
8 El comienza diciendo: "Tú no has querido ni has mirado con agrado los sacrificios, los holocaustos, ni los sacrificios expiatorios", a pesar de que están prescritos por la Ley.	8 In the above, by saying, “Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin, you did not want, nor are those things pleasing to you, which are offered according to the law;
9 Y luego añade: "Aquí estoy, yo vengo para hacer tu voluntad". Así declara abolido el primer régimen para establecer el segundo.	9 then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,’ ” he takes away the first, so that he may establish what follows.
10 Y en virtud de esta voluntad quedamos santificados por la oblación del cuerpo de Jesucristo, hecha de una vez para siempre.	10 For by this will, we have been sanctified, through the one time oblation of the body of Jesus Christ.
11 Cada sacerdote se presenta diariamente para cumplir su ministerio y ofrecer muchas veces los mismos sacrificios, que son totalmente ineficaces para quitar el pecado.	11 And certainly, every priest stands by, ministering daily, and frequently offering the same sacrifices, which are never able to take away sins.
12 Cristo, en cambio, después de haber ofrecido por los pecados un único Sacrificio, se sentó para siempre a la derecha de Dios,	12 But this man, offering one sacrifice for sins, sits at the right hand of God forever,
13 donde espera que sus enemigos sean puestos debajo de sus pies.	13 awaiting that time when his enemies will be made his footstool.
14 Y así, mediante una sola oblación, él ha perfeccionado para siempre a los que santifica.	14 For, by one oblation, he has brought to fulfillment, for all time, those who are sanctified.
15 El Espíritu Santo atestigua todo esto, porque después de haber anunciado:	15 Now the Holy Spirit also testifies for us about this. For afterward, he said:
16 "Esta es la Alianza que haré con ellos después de aquellos días, dice el Señor: Yo pondré mis leyes en su corazón y las grabaré en su conciencia,	16 “And this is the testament which I will commit to them after those days, says the Lord. I will instill my laws in their hearts, and I will inscribe my laws on their minds.
17 y no me acordaré más de sus pecados ni de sus iniquidades".	17 And I will no longer remember their sins and iniquities.”
18 Y si los pecados están perdonados, ya no hay necesidad de ofrecer por ellos ninguna oblación.	18 Now, when there is a remission of these things, there is no longer an oblation for sin.
19 Por lo tanto, hermanos, tenemos plena seguridad de que podemos entrar en el Santuario por la sangre de Jesús,	19 And so, brothers, have faith in the entrance into the Holy of Holies by the blood of Christ,
20 siguiendo el camino nuevo y viviente que él nos abrió a través del velo del Templo, que es su carne.	20 and in the new and living Way, which he has initiated for us by the veil, that is, by his flesh,
21 También tenemos un Sumo Sacerdote insigne al frente de la casa de Dios.	21 and in the Great Priest over the house of God.
22 Acerquémonos, entonces, con un corazón sincero y llenos de fe, purificados interiormente de toda mala conciencia y con el cuerpo lavado por el agua pura.	22 So, let us draw near with a true heart, in the fullness of faith, having hearts cleansed from an evil conscience, and bodies absolved with clean water.
23 Mantengamos firmemente la confesión de nuestra esperanza, porque aquel que ha hecho la promesa es fiel.	23 Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope, without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.
24 Velemos los unos por los otros, para estimularnos en el amor y en las buenas obras.	24 And let us be considerate of one another, so as to prompt ourselves to charity and to good works,
25 No desertemos de nuestras asambleas, como suelen hacerlo algunos; al contrario, animémonos mutuamente, tanto más cuanto que vemos acercarse el día.	25 not deserting our assembly, as some are accustomed to do, but consoling one another, and even more so as you see that the day is approaching.
26 Porque si después de haber recibido el pleno conocimiento de la verdad, pecamos deliberadamente, ya no hay más sacrificio por los pecados.	26 For if we sin willingly, after receiving knowledge of the truth, there is no sacrifice remaining for sins,
27 Sólo resta esperar con terror el juicio y el fuego ardiente que consumirá a los rebeldes.	27 but instead, a certain terrible expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire that shall consume its adversaries.
28 El que viola la Ley de Moisés, es condenado a muerte irremisiblemente por el testimonio de dos o tres testigos.	28 If someone dies for acting against the law of Moses, and is shown no compassion because of two or three witnesses,
29 Piensen, entonces, qué castigo merecerá el que pisoteó al Hijo de Dios, el que profanó la sangre de la Alianza con la cual fue santificado y ultrajó al Espíritu de la gracia.	29 how much more, do you think, someone would deserve worse punishments, if he has tread upon the Son of God, and has treated the blood of the testament, by which he was sanctified, as unclean, and has acted with disgrace toward the Spirit of grace?
30 Porque nosotros conocemos a aquel que ha dicho: La venganza me pertenece y yo daré la retribución. Y además: El Señor juzgará a su pueblo.	30 For we know that he has said: “Vengeance is mine, and I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
31 ¡Verdaderamente es algo terrible caer en las manos del Dios viviente!	31 It is dreadful to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Recuerden los primeros tiempos: apenas habían sido iluminados y ya tuvieron que soportar un rudo y doloroso combate,	32 But call to mind the former days, in which, after being enlightened, you endured a great struggle of afflictions.
33 unas veces expuestos públicamente a injurias y atropellos, y otras, solidarizándose con los que eran tratados de esa manera.	33 And certainly, in one way, by insults and tribulations, you were made a spectacle, but in another way, you became the companions of those who were the object of such behavior.
34 Ustedes compartieron entonces los sufrimientos de los que estaban en la cárcel y aceptaron con alegría que los despojaran de sus bienes, sabiendo que tenían una riqueza mejor y permanente.	34 For you even had compassion on those who were imprisoned, and you accepted with gladness being deprived of your goods, knowing that you have a better and more lasting substance.
35 No pierdan entonces la confianza, a la que está reservada una gran recompensa.	35 And so, do not lose your confidence, which has a great reward.
36 Ustedes necesitan constancia para cumplir la voluntad de Dios y entrar en posesión de la promesa.	36 For it is necessary for you to be patient, so that, by doing the will of God, you may receive the promise.
37 Porque todavía falta un poco, muy poco tiempo, y el que debe venir vendrá sin tardar.	37 “For, in a little while, and somewhat longer, he who is to come will return, and he will not delay.
38 El justo vivirá por la fe, pero si se vuelve atrás, dejaré de amarlo.	38 For my just man lives by faith. But if he were to draw himself back, he would not please my soul.”
39 Nosotros no somos de los que se vuelven atrás para su perdición, sino que vivimos en la fe para preservar nuestra alma.	39 So then, we are not sons who are drawn away to perdition, but we are sons of faith toward the securing of the soul.
