1 Antes de la fiesta de Pascua, sabiendo Jesús que había llegado la hora de pasar de este mundo al Padre, él, que había amado a los suyos que quedaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el fin.	1 Before the feast day of the Passover, Jesus knew that the hour was approaching when he would pass from this world to the Father. And since he had always loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 Durante la Cena, cuando el demonio ya había inspirado a Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, el propósito de entregarlo,	2 And when the meal had taken place, when the devil had now put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him,
3 sabiendo Jesús que el Padre había puesto todo en sus manos y que él había venido de Dios y volvía a Dios,	3 knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he came from God and was going to God,
4 se levantó de la mesa, se sacó el manto y tomando una toalla se la ató a la cintura.	4 he rose up from the meal, and he set aside his vestments, and when he had received a towel, he wrapped it around himself.
5 Luego echó agua en un recipiente y empezó a lavar los pies a los discípulos y a secárselos con la toalla que tenía en la cintura.	5 Next he put water into a shallow bowl, and he began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel with which he was wrapped.
6 Cuando se acercó a Simón Pedro, este le dijo: «¿Tú, Señor, me vas a lavar los pies a mí?».	6 And then he came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to him, “Lord, would you wash my feet?”
7 Jesús le respondió: «No puedes comprender ahora lo que estoy haciendo, pero después lo comprenderás».	7 Jesus responded and said to him: “What I am doing, you do not now understand. But you shall understand it afterward.”
8 «No, le dijo Pedro, ¡tú jamás me lavarás los pies a mí!». Jesús le respondió: «Si yo no te lavo, no podrás compartir mi suerte».	8 Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you will have no place with me.”
9 «Entonces, Señor, le dijo Simón Pedro, ¡no sólo los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza!».	9 Simon Peter said to him, “Then Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”
10 Jesús le dijo: «El que se ha bañado no necesita lavarse más que los pies, porque está completamente limpio. Ustedes también están limpios, aunque no todos».	10 Jesus said to him: “He who is washed need only wash his feet, and then he will be entirely clean. And you are clean, but not all.”
11 El sabía quién lo iba a entregar, y por eso había dicho: «No todos ustedes están limpios».	11 For he knew which one would betray him. For this reason, he said, “You are not all clean.”
12 Después de haberles lavado los pies, se puso el manto, volvió a la mesa y les dijo: «¿comprenden lo que acabo de hacer con ustedes?	12 And so, after he washed their feet and received his vestments, when he had sat down at table again, he said to them: “Do you know what I have done for you?
13 Ustedes me llaman Maestro y Señor, y tienen razón, porque lo soy.	13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you speak well: for so I am.
14 Si yo, que soy el Señor y el Maestro, les he lavado los pies, ustedes también deben lavarse los pies unos a otros.	14 Therefore, if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash the feet of one another.
15 Les he dado el ejemplo, para que hagan lo mismo que yo hice con ustedes.	15 For I have given you an example, so that just as I have done for you, so also should you do.
16 Les aseguro que el servidor no es más grande que su señor, ni el enviado más grande que el que lo envía.	16 Amen, amen, I say to you, the servant is not greater than his Lord, and the apostle is not greater than he who sent him.
17 Ustedes serán felices si, sabiendo estas cosas, las practican.	17 If you understand this, you shall be blessed if you will do it.
18 No lo digo por todos ustedes; yo conozco a los que he elegido. Pero es necesario que se cumpla la Escritura que dice: El que comparte mi pan se volvió contra mí.	18 I am not speaking about all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But this is so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me shall lift up his heel against me.’
19 Les digo esto desde ahora, antes que suceda, para que cuando suceda, crean que Yo Soy.	19 And I tell you this now, before it happens, so that when it has happened, you may believe that I am.
20 Les aseguro que el que reciba al que yo envíe, me recibe a mí, y el que me recibe, recibe al que me envió».	20 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives anyone whom I send, receives me. And whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.”
21 Después de decir esto, Jesús se estremeció y manifestó claramente: «Les aseguro que uno de ustedes me entregará:.	21 When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit. And he bore witness by saying: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that one among you shall betray me.”
22 Los discípulos se miraban unos a otros, no sabiendo a quién se refería.	22 Therefore, the disciples looked around at one another, uncertain about whom he spoke.
23 Uno de ellos –el discípulo al que Jesús amaba– estaba reclinado muy cerca de Jesús.	23 And leaning against the bosom of Jesus was one of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved.
24 Simón Pedro le hizo una seña y le dijo: «Pregúntale a quién se refiere».	24 Therefore, Simon Peter motioned to this one and said to him, “Who is it that he is speaking about?”
25 El se reclinó sobre Jesús y le preguntó: «Señor, ¿quién es?».	25 And so, leaning against the chest of Jesus, he said to him, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesús le respondió: «Es aquel al que daré el bocado que voy a mojar en el plato». Y mojando un bocado, se lo dio a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote.	26 Jesus responded, “It is he to whom I shall extend the dipped bread.” And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.
27 En cuanto recibió el bocado, Satanás entró en él. Jesús le dijo entonces: «Realiza pronto lo que tienes que hacer».	27 And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”
28 Pero ninguno de los comensales comprendió por qué le decía esto.	28 Now none of those sitting at table knew why he had said this to him.
29 Como Judas estaba encargado de la bolsa común, algunos pensaban que Jesús quería decirle: «Compra lo que hace falta para la fiesta», o bien que le mandaba dar algo a los pobres.	29 For some were thinking that, because Judas held the purse, that Jesus had told him, “Buy those things which are needed by us for the feast day,” or that he might give something to the needy.
30 Y en seguida, después de recibir el bocado, Judas salió. Ya era de noche.	30 Therefore, having accepted the morsel, he went out immediately. And it was night.
31 Después que Judas salió, Jesús dijo: «Ahora el Hijo del hombre ha sido glorificado y Dios ha sido glorificado en él.	31 Then, when he had gone out, Jesus said: “Now the Son of man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
32 Si Dios ha sido glorificado en él, también lo glorificará en sí mismo, y lo hará muy pronto.	32 If God has been glorified in him, then God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him without delay.
33 Hijos míos, ya no estaré mucho tiempo con ustedes. Ustedes me buscarán, pero yo les digo ahora lo mismo que dije a los judíos: «A donde yo voy, ustedes no pueden venir».	33 Little sons, for a brief while, I am with you. You shall seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you are not able to go,’ so also I say to you now.
34 Les doy un mandamiento nuevo: ámense los unos a los otros. Así como yo los he amado, ámense también ustedes los unos a los otros.	34 I give you a new commandment: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, so also must you love one another.
35 En esto todos reconocerán que ustedes son mis discípulos: en el amor que se tengan los unos a los otros».	35 By this, all shall recognize that you are my disciples: if you will have love for one another.”
36 Simón Pedro le dijo: «Señor, ¿a dónde vas?». Jesús le respondió: «Adonde yo voy, tú no puedes seguirme ahora, pero más adelante me seguirás».	36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus responded: “Where I am going, you are not able to follow me now. But you shall follow afterward.”
37 Pedro le preguntó: «¿Por qué no puedo seguirte ahora? Yo daré mi vida por ti».	37 Peter said to him: “Why am I unable to follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!”
38 Jesús le respondió: «¿Darás tu vida por mí? Te aseguro que no cantará el gallo antes que me hayas negado tres veces».	38 Jesus answered him: “You will lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the rooster will not crow, until you deny me three times.”
