1 [Alef] ¡Cómo se ha oscurecido el oro, se ha empañado el oro más puro! Las piedras sagradas están tiradas en todas las esquinas.	1 How tarnished is the gold, how changed the noble metal; How the sacred stones lie strewn at every street corner!
2 [Bet] Los hijos de Sión, tan preciados, valuados a precio de oro fino, ¡cómo son tenidos por vasos de arcilla, obra de las manos de un alfarero!	2 Zion's precious sons, fine gold their counterpart, Now worth no more than earthen jars made by the hands of a potter!
3 [Guímel] Hasta los chacales presentan las ubres para amamantar a sus cachorros; pero la hija de mi pueblo se ha vuelto cruel como los avestruces del desierto.	3 Even the jackals bare their breasts and suckle their young; The daughter of my people has become as cruel as the ostrich in the desert.
4 [Dálet] La lengua de las criaturas se pega al paladar a causa de la sed; los niños pequeños piden pan, y nadie se lo reparte.	4 The tongue of the suckling cleaves to the roof of its mouth in thirst; The babes cry for food, but there is no one to give it to them.
5 [He] Los que comían manjares exquisitos desfallecen por las calles; los que se habían criado entre púrpura se abrazan a los residuos.	5 Those accustomed to dainty food perish in the streets; Those brought up in purple now cling to the ash heaps.
6 [Vau] La iniquidad de la hija de mi pueblo ha superado el pecado de Sodoma, que fue destruida en un instante sin que se moviera una mano contra ella.	6 The punishment of the daughter of my people is greater than the penalty of Sodom, Which was overthrown in an instant without the turning of a hand.
7 [Zain] Sus jóvenes eran más puros que la nieve, más blancos que la leche; sus cuerpos, más rojizos que el coral, su figura, un zafiro.	7 Brighter than snow were her princes, whiter than milk, More ruddy than coral, more precious than sapphire.
8 [Jet] Su semblante se ha vuelto más oscuro que el hollín, no se los reconoce por las calles; tienen la piel pegada a los huesos, reseca como madera.	8 Now their appearance is blacker than soot, they are unrecognized on the streets; Their skin shrinks on their bones, as dry as wood.
9 [Tet] Fueron más dichosos los muertos por la espada, que los muertos por el hambre: aquellos se desangraron, traspasados; estos, por falta de frutos en los campos.	9 Better for those who perish by the sword than for those who die of hunger, Who waste away, as though pierced through, lacking the fruits of the field!

11 [Caf] El Señor desahogó su furor, derramó el ardor de su ira; encendió un fuego en Sión que devoró hasta sus cimientos.	11 The LORD has spent his anger, poured out his blazing wrath; He has kindled a fire in Zion that has consumed her foundations.
12 [Lámed] Nunca hubieran creído los reyes de la tierra ni todos los habitantes del mundo, que entrarían el adversario y el enemigo por las puertas de Jerusalén.	12 The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the world's inhabitants, That enemy or foe could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
13 [Mem] Esto sucedió por los pecados de sus profetas, por las iniquidades de sus sacerdotes, que derramaron en medio de ella la sangre de los justos.	13 Because of the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, Who shed in her midst the blood of the just!--
14 [Nun] Vagaban como ciegos por las calles, manchados de sangre, de manera que no se podía tocar sus vestiduras.	14 They staggered blindly in the streets, soiled with blood, So that people could not touch even their garments:

Si huían y vagaban entre las naciones, se decía: «¡No pueden quedarse más aquí!».	15 "Away you unclean!" they cried to them, "Away, away, do not draw near!" If they left and wandered among the nations, nowhere could they remain.
16 [Pe] El rostro del Señor los dispersó, no volverá a mirarlos. Ya no se respeta a los sacerdotes ni se tiene piedad de los ancianos.	16 The LORD himself has dispersed them, he regards them no more; He does not receive the priests with favor, nor show kindness to the elders.
17 [Ain] Aún se consumían nuestros ojos, aguardando en vano una ayuda; en nuestros puestos de guardia, mirábamos hacia una nación que no puede salvar.	17 Our eyes ever wasted away, looking in vain for aid; From our watchtower we watched for a nation that could not save us.
18 [Sade] Se acechaban nuestros pasos, no podíamos andar por las calles. Se acercaba nuestro fin, se habían cumplido nuestros días: ¡sí, había llegado nuestro fin!	18 Men dogged our steps so that we could not walk in our streets; Our end drew near, and came; our time had expired.
19 [Qof] Nuestros perseguidores eran más veloces que las águilas del cielo: nos hostigaban en las montañas, nos tendían emboscadas en el desierto.	19 Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the air, They harassed us on the mountains and waylaid us in the desert.
20 [Res] El Ungido del Señor, nuestro aliento vital, quedó atrapado en sus fosas: aquel de quien decíamos: «¡A su sombra viviremos entre las naciones!».	20 The anointed one of the LORD, our breath of life, was caught in their snares, He in whose shadow we thought we could live on among the nations.
21 [Sin] ¡Regocíjate y alégrate, hija de Edom, tú que habitas en el país de Us! También tú recibirás la copa: te embriagarás y te desnudarás.	21 Though you rejoice and are glad, O daughter Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz, To you also shall the cup be passed; you shall become drunk and naked.
22 [Tau] Tu iniquidad se ha borrado, hija de Sión: ¡él no volverá a desterrarte! El castigará tu culpa, hija de Edom, ¡pondrá al descubierto tus pecados!	22 Your chastisement is completed, O daughter Zion, he will not prolong your exile; But your wickedness, O daughter Edom, he will punish, he will lay bare your sins.
