Proverbios 18

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El que vive aislado sigue sus caprichos y se irrita contra todo sano consejo.	1 Whoever lives alone fol ows private whims, and is angered by advice of any kind.
2 El insensato no desea comprender, sino revelar sus propias opiniones.	2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in airing an opinion.
3 Junto con la maldad, llega la ignominia, y con la pérdida del honor, el desprecio.	3 When wickedness comes, indignity comes too, and, with contempt, dishonour.
4 Aguas profundas son las palabras de un hombre, torrente desbordante es la fuente de la sabiduría.	4 Deep waters, such are human words: a gushing stream, the utterance of wisdom.
5 No está bien rehabilitar al malvado, perjudicando al justo en el juicio.	5 It is not good to show partiality for the wicked and so to deprive the upright when giving judgement.
6 Los labios del insensato promueven litigios y su boca incita a golpear.	6 The lips of a fool go to the law-courts with a mouth that pleads for a beating.
7 La boca del insensato es su ruina y sus labios, una trampa para su vida.	7 The mouth of the fool works its owner's ruin, the lips of a fool are a snare for their owner's life.
8 Las palabras del detractor son como golosinas que bajan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.	8 The words of a slanderer are tasty morsels that go right down into the bel y.
9 El que se deja estar en su trabajo es hermano del que destruye.	9 Whoever is idle at work is blood-brother to the destroyer.
10 El nombre del Señor es una torre fortificada: el justo corre hacia ella y se pone a salvo.	10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the upright runs to it and is secure.
11 La fortuna del rico es su plaza fuerte, se la imagina como un muro inexpugnable.	11 The wealth of the rich forms a stronghold, a high wal , as the rich supposes.
12 Antes de la ruina el hombre se ensoberbece, pero la humildad precede a la gloria.	12 The human heart is haughty until destruction comes, before there can be glory there must be humility.
13 El que responde antes de escuchar muestra su necedad y se atrae el oprobio.	13 To retort without first listening is both foolish and embarrassing.
14 El espíritu de un hombre lo sostiene en su enfermedad, pero ¿quién levantará a un espíritu abatido?	14 Sickness the human spirit can endure, but when the spirit is broken, who can bear this?
15 Un corazón inteligente adquiere conocimiento, y el oído de los sabios busca la ciencia.	15 The heart of the intel igent acquires learning, the ears of the wise search for knowledge.
16 Un reglo abre paso al que lo da y lo introduce en la presencia de los grandes.	16 A present will open al doors and win access to the great.
17 El primero en defender su causa tiene razón, hasta que llega la parte adversa y lo impugna.	17 The first to plead is adjudged to be upright, until the next comes and cross-examines him.
18 Las suertes ponen fin a los litigios y deciden entre los poderosos.	18 The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between men of power.
19 Un hermano ofendido es más irreductible que una plaza fuerte, y los litigios son como cerrojo de ciudadela.	19 A brother offended is worse than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the locks of a keep.
20 El hombre sacia su estómago con el fruto de sus palabras: cada uno se sacia con lo que sale de sus labios.	20 From the fruit of the mouth is a stomach fil ed, it is the yield of the lips that gives contentment.
21 La muerte y la vida dependen de la lengua, y los que son indulgentes con ella comerán de su fruto.	21 Death and life are in the gift of the tongue, those who indulge it must eat the fruit it yields.
22 El que encontró una mujer encontró la felicidad y obtuvo el favor del Señor.	22 He who finds a wife finds happiness, receiving a mark of favour from Yahweh.
23 El pobre habla suplicando, pero el rico responde duramente.	23 The language of the poor is entreaty, the answer of the rich harshness.
24 Hay compañeros que llevan a la ruina y hay amigos más apegados que un hermano.	24 There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother.
