1 “Je suis la vraie vigne et mon Père est le vigneron.	1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
2 Quand une branche, en moi, ne porte pas de fruit, il l’enlève; quand une branche donne du fruit, il la taille et la nettoie pour qu’elle en porte davantage.	2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he will take away. And each one that does bear fruit, he will cleanse, so that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Le message que je vous ai donné vous a déjà purifiés,	3 You are clean now, because of the word that I have spoken to you.
4 mais demeurez en moi, et moi en vous. Le sarment ne pourra pas donner de fruits par lui-même s’il ne reste pas sur la vigne; ce sera pareil pour vous si vous ne restez pas en moi.	4 Abide in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so also are you unable, unless you abide in me.
5 “Je suis la vigne et vous êtes les sarments. Sans moi vous ne pouvez rien faire, mais celui qui demeure en moi et moi en lui, porte beaucoup de fruits.	5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without me, you are able to do nothing.
6 “Si quelqu’un ne demeure pas en moi, il est jeté dehors comme les sarments, et tout se dessèche; on les met en tas, on les jette au feu et ils brûlent.	6 If anyone does not abide in me, he will be cast away, like a branch, and he will wither, and they will gather him and cast him into the fire, and he burns.
7 Mais tant que vous demeurez en moi et que mes paroles demeurent en vous, demandez ce que vous voulez et vous l’obtiendrez.	7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, then you may ask for whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
8 C’est ainsi que mon Père est glorifié, quand vous portez beaucoup de fruits; et alors vous devenez mes disciples.	8 In this, my Father is glorified: that you should bring forth very much fruit and become my disciples.
9 “Comme le Père m’a aimé, moi aussi je vous ai aimés: demeurez en mon amour.	9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Abide in my love.
10 Si vous gardez mes commandements, vous demeurerez en mon amour, tout comme j’ai gardé les commandements de mon Père et je demeure en son amour.	10 If you keep my precepts, you shall abide in my love, just as I also have kept my Father’s precepts and I abide in his love.
11 Je vous dis tout cela pour que ma joie soit en vous, et que votre joie soit entière.	11 These things I have spoken to you, so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be fulfilled.
12 “Voici mon commandement: Aimez-vous les uns les autres comme je vous ai aimés.	12 This is my precept: that you love one another, just as I have loved you.
13 Il ne peut pas y avoir de plus grand amour que de donner sa vie pour ses amis,	13 No one has a greater love than this: that he lay down his life for his friends.
14 et vous, vous êtes mes amis si vous faites ce que je vous commande.	14 You are my friends, if you do what I instruct you.
15 Aussi, je ne vous appelle plus des serviteurs, car le serviteur ne sait pas ce que fait son maître; je vous traite d’amis parce que je vous ai fait connaître tout ce que j’ai appris de mon Père.	15 I will no longer call you servants, for the servant does not know what his Lord is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything whatsoever that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you.
16 “Ce n’est pas vous qui m’avez choisi, mais je vous ai choisis et je vous ai donné mission pour que vous alliez et que vous portiez du fruit, et que ce fruit demeure. C’est ainsi que le Père vous donnera tout ce que vous demanderez en mon nom.	16 You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you. And I have appointed you, so that you may go forth and bear fruit, and so that your fruit may last. Then whatever you have asked of the Father in my name, he shall give to you.
17 Aimez-vous les uns les autres, c’est là mon commandement.”	17 This I command you: that you love one another.
18 “Si le monde vous déteste, pensez qu’il m’a détesté avant vous.	18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before you.
19 Si vous étiez du monde, le monde reconnaîtrait les siens et les aimerait. Mais vous n’êtes pas du monde, et le monde vous déteste parce que je vous en ai tirés.	19 If you had been of the world, the world would love what is its own. Yet truly, you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world; because of this, the world hates you.
20 Rappelez-vous ce que je vous ai dit: le serviteur n’est pas au-dessus de son maître. Si l’on m’a persécuté, on vous persécutera de même. A-t-on accueilli ma parole? Alors, va-t-on accueillir la vôtre?	20 Remember my saying that I told you: The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.
21 “Tout ce qu’ils feront contre vous, ce sera à cause de mon nom, parce qu’ils ne connaissent pas celui qui m’a envoyé.	21 But all these things they will do to you because of my name, for they do not know him who sent me.
22 Si je n’étais pas venu pour leur parler, ils n’auraient pas de péché. Mais maintenant ils n’ont plus d’excuses pour leurs péchés.	22 If I had not come and had not spoken to them, they would not have sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.
23 “Celui qui me déteste, déteste aussi mon Père.	23 Whoever hates me, hates my Father also.
24 Si je n’avais pas fait parmi eux des œuvres que personne d’autre n’a faites, ils n’auraient pas de péché. Mais maintenant ils ont vu, et ils m’ont détesté aussi bien que mon Père.	24 If I had not accomplished among them works that no other person has accomplished, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen me, and they have hated me and my Father.
25 Il fallait que s’accomplisse cette parole qu’on lit dans leur Loi: ils m’ont détesté sans raison.”	25 But this is so that the word may be fulfilled which was written in their law: ‘For they hated me without cause.’
26 “Mais je vais vous envoyer d’auprès du Père le Protecteur, et quand il sera là, l’Esprit de Vérité qui vient du Père, il me rendra témoignage.	26 But when the Advocate has arrived, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will offer testimony about me.
27 Et vous aussi, vous me rendrez témoignage, car vous êtes avec moi depuis le commencement.”	27 And you shall offer testimony, because you are with me from the beginning.”
