1 Miryam et Aaron murmurèrent contre Moïse parce qu’il avait pris une femme Kouchite (il avait en effet épousé une femme du pays de Kouch).	1 Miriam, and Aaron too, criticised Moses over the Cushite woman he had married. He had indeedmarried a Cushite woman.
2 “Est-ce que Yahvé, dirent-ils, ne parlerait que par Moïse? N’a-t-il pas aussi parlé par nous?” Yahvé l’entendit.	2 They said, 'Is Moses the only one through whom Yahweh has spoken? Has he not spoken through ustoo?' Yahweh heard this.
3 Or Moïse était un homme très humble. Il n’y avait pas plus humble que lui sur toute la terre.	3 Now Moses was extremely humble, the humblest man on earth.
4 Soudain Yahvé dit à Moïse, à Aaron et à Miryam: “Sortez du camp tous les trois et allez à la Tente du Rendez-Vous!” Ils sortirent donc tous les trois.	4 Suddenly Yahweh said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, 'Come out, al three of you, to the Tent ofMeeting.' They went, al three of them,
5 Alors Yahvé descendit dans la colonne de nuée et se tint à l’entrée de la Tente. Il appela Aaron et Miryam qui s’avancèrent tous les deux.	5 and Yahweh descended in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tent. He cal ed Aaronand Miriam and they both came forward.
6 Puis Yahvé leur dit: “Écoutez bien mes paroles: S’il y a parmi vous un prophète, je me manifeste à lui à travers des visions, je ne lui parle qu’en songes.	6 Yahweh said: Listen to my words! if there is a prophet among you, I reveal myself to him in a vision, I speak to him in a dream.
7 Il n’en va pas de même pour mon serviteur Moïse; je lui ai confié toute ma Maison	7 Not so with my servant Moses; to him my whole household is entrusted;
8 et je lui parle face à face. C’est la claire vision, non pas des énigmes; lui contemple l’image de Yahvé. “Comment donc n’avez-vous pas craint de parler contre mon serviteur, contre Moïse?”	8 to him I speak face to face, plainly and not in riddles, and he sees Yahweh's form. How, then, couldyou dare to criticise my servant Moses?
9 La colère de Yahvé s’enflamma contre eux et il se retira.	9 Yahweh's anger was aroused by them. He went away,
10 Lorsque la nuée se retira d’au-dessus de la Tente, Miryam avait la lèpre: sa peau était blanche comme la neige. Aaron se tourna vers Miryam, elle était lépreuse!	10 and as soon as the cloud left the Tent, there was Miriam covered with a virulent skin-disease, whiteas snow! Aaron turned to look at her and saw that she had contracted a virulent skin-disease.
11 Alors Aaron dit à Moïse: “Je t’en supplie mon seigneur, ne nous fais pas payer ce péché, cette folie qui nous a pris.	11 Aaron said to Moses: 'Oh, my Lord, please do not punish us for the sin we have been foolishenough to commit.
12 Qu’elle ne soit pas comme l’avorton dont le corps est à moitié ravagé, à peine sorti du sein de sa mère.”	12 Do not let her be like some monster with its flesh half eaten away when it leaves its mother's womb!'
13 Alors Moïse supplia Yahvé: “Je t’en supplie, arrête! Guéris-la!”	13 Moses pleaded with Yahweh. 'O God,' he said, 'I beg you, please heal her!'
14 Mais Yahvé répondit à Moïse: “Si son père lui crachait au visage, elle devrait se cacher de honte durant sept jours. Qu’elle soit donc exclue du camp pour sept jours, après quoi elle reviendra.”	14 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'If her father had done no more than spit in her face, would she not beunclean for seven days? Have her shut out of the camp for seven days, and then have her brought in again.'
15 Miryam fut donc exclue du camp durant sept jours, et le peuple ne partit que lorsque Miryam fut revenue.	15 Miriam was shut out of the camp for seven days. The people did not set out until she returned.
16 Alors le peuple partit de Hasérot et campa dans le désert de Paran.	16 Then the people moved on from Hazeroth and pitched camp in the desert of Paran.
