1 Voici ceux qui rejoignirent David à Siklag, lorsqu’il était loin de Saül, fils de Kich. C’étaient des combattants courageux et dignes de confiance, membres de la tribu de Benjamin, à laquelle appartenait Saül.	1 The following men came to David in Ziklag while he was still under banishment from Saul, son of Kish; they, too, were among the warriors who helped him in his battles.
2 C’étaient des archers capables de lancer des pierres ou de tirer des flèches de la main gauche comme de la main droite. Parmi les gens de Benjamin, frères de Saül,	2 They were archers who could use either the right or the left hand, both in slinging stones and in shooting arrows with the bow. They were some of Saul's kinsmen, from Benjamin.

9 Quelques Gadites désertèrent pour rejoindre les troupes de David quand il était retranché dans le désert. C’étaient de vaillants combattants, habiles à manier le bouclier et la lance. Ils étaient féroces comme des lions et rapides comme des bouquetins.	9 Some of the Gadites also went over to David when he was at the stronghold in the wilderness. They were valiant warriors, experienced soldiers equipped with shield and spear, who bore themselves like lions, and were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains.
10 Ézer était le chef, Obadya le second, Éliab le troisième,	10 Ezer was their chief, Obadiah was second, Eliab third,
11 Machmanna le quatrième, Yirméya le cinquième,	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 Attaï le sixième, Éliel le septième,	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 Yohanan le huitième, Elzabad le neuvième,	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 Yirméya le dixième, Makbannaï le onzième.	14 Jeremiah tenth, and Machbannai eleventh.
15 Ces fils de Gad étaient les têtes de l’armée: le moins expérimenté valait à lui seul cent hommes, le plus expérimenté en valait mille.	15 These Gadites were army commanders, the lesser placed over hundreds and the greater over thousands.
16 Ce sont eux qui traversèrent le Jourdain au premier mois, quand il déborde de ses rives et met en fuite les habitants des vallées de l’est comme de l’ouest.	16 It was they who crossed over the Jordan when it was overflowing both its banks in the first month, and dispersed all who were in the valleys to the east and to the west.
17 Des hommes sortis des tribus de Benjamin et de Juda rejoignirent David dans son refuge.	17 Some Benjaminites and Judahites also came to David at the stronghold.
18 David vint à leur rencontre et leur dit: “Si vous venez à moi en amis, pour me soutenir, je suis prêt à me joindre à vous. Mais si c’est pour me livrer à mes adversaires alors que je n’ai rien fait de mal, que le Dieu de nos pères le voie et vous punisse.”	18 David went out to meet them and addressed them in these words: "If you come peacefully, to help me, I am of a mind to have you join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies though my hands have done no wrong, may the God of our fathers see and punish you."
19 Alors l’esprit de Dieu s’empara d’Amasaï, chef des Trente: “Nous sommes à toi, David! Nous sommes avec toi, fils de Jessé! La paix soit avec toi et avec qui te soutient, Car Dieu est avec toi!” David les accueillit et les fit officiers dans son armée.	19 Then spirit enveloped Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, who spoke: "We are yours, O David, we are with you, O son of Jesse. Peace, peace to you, and peace to him who helps you; your God it is who helps you." So David received them and placed them among the leaders of his troops.
20 Quelques-uns de la tribu de Manassé se rallièrent à David alors qu’il se préparait avec les Philistins à lutter contre Saül. Mais David n’aida pas les Philistins, parce que leurs chefs avaient décidé en conseil de le renvoyer. Ils se disaient: “Il rejoindra son maître Saül au prix de notre vie.”	20 Men from Manasseh also deserted to David when he came with the Philistines to battle against Saul. However, he did not help the Philistines, for their lords took counsel and sent him home, saying, "At the cost of our heads he will desert to his master Saul."
21 Il était sur le chemin de Siklag quand les hommes de Manassé se joignirent à lui: c’étaient Adnah, Yozabad, Yédiaël, Mikaël, Yozabad, Élihou et Silétaï, chefs de milliers en Manassé.	21 As he was returning to Ziklag, therefore, these deserted to him from Manasseh: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands of Manasseh.
22 Ils étaient un bon renfort pour David et ses troupes, car c’étaient tous d’excellents soldats: ils devinrent officiers dans l’armée.	22 They helped David by taking charge of his troops, for they were all warriors and became commanders of his army.
23 En fait, presque tous les jours de nouveaux hommes se joignaient aux forces de David si bien que son camp devint un camp énorme.	23 And from day to day men kept coming to David's help until there was a vast encampment, like an encampment of angels.
24 Voici des chiffres tirés de la liste des braves qui se joignirent à David à Hébron pour lui remettre la royauté de Saül, selon la volonté de Yahvé:	24 This is the muster of the detachments of armed troops that came to David at Hebron to transfer to him Saul's kingdom, as the LORD had ordained.
25 Les fils de Juda portant bouclier et lance: 6 800 hommes équipés pour le combat.	25 Judahites bearing shields and spears: six thousand eight hundred armed troops.
26 Des fils de Siméon: 7 100 hommes parfaitement entraînés.	26 Of the Simeonites, warriors fit for battle: seven thousand one hundred.
27 Des fils de Lévi: 4 600,	27 Of the Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 s’ajoutant à Yoyada, renommé parmi les fils d’Aaron, à la tête de 3 700 hommes,	28 along with Jehoiada, leader of the line of Aaron, with another three thousand seven hundred,
29 et Sadoq, un jeune et habile combattant, 22 chefs de sa famille.	29 and Zadok, a young warrior, with twenty-two princes of his father's house.
30 Des fils de Benjamin: 3 000 parents de Saül, dont la plupart avaient été au service de la maison de Saül.	30 Of the Benjaminites, the brethren of Saul: three thousand--until this time, most of them had held their allegiance to the house of Saul.
31 Des fils d’Éphraïm: 20 800 hommes de renom dans leurs familles.	31 Of the Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred warriors, men renowned in their ancestral houses.
32 De la moitié de la tribu de Manassé: 18 000 hommes qui furent désignés nommément pour aller proclamer David roi.	32 Of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand, designated by name to come and make David king.
33 Des fils d’Issacar, sachant discerner les moments où Israël devait agir et la façon de le faire: 200 chefs avec leurs parents sous leurs ordres.	33 Of the Issacharites, their chiefs who were endowed with an understanding of the times and who knew what Israel had to do: two hundred chiefs, together with all their brethren under their command.
34 De Zabulon: 50 000 hommes entraînés et prêts au combat avec toutes sortes d’armes, des gens qui combattaient résolument.	34 From Zebulun, men fit for military service, set in battle array with every kind of weapon for war: fifty thousand men rallying with a single purpose.
35 De Nephtali: 1 000 commandants, et avec eux 37 000 hommes armés de boucliers et de lances.	35 From Naphtali: one thousand captains, and with them, armed with shield and lance, thirty-seven thousand men.
36 De Dan: 28 600 hommes prêts au combat.	36 Of the Danites, set in battle array: twenty-eight thousand six hundred.
37 D’Asher: 40 000 hommes entraînés au combat.	37 From Asher, fit for military service and set in battle array: forty thousand.
38 Venant de Transjordanie: 120 000 hommes de Ruben, Gad et la moitié de la tribu de Manassé avec toutes sortes d’armes.	38 From the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, men equipped with every kind of weapon of war: one hundred and twenty thousand.
39 Tous ces guerriers prêts au combat, vinrent spontanément pour proclamer David roi sur tout Israël; tout le reste d’Israël d’ailleurs, était d’accord pour proclamer David roi.	39 All these soldiers, drawn up in battle order, came to Hebron with the resolute intention of making David king over all Israel. The rest of Israel was likewise of one mind to make David king.
40 Ils restèrent là pendant trois jours, prenant leurs repas et buvant avec David, car leurs parents leur avaient envoyé des vivres.	40 They remained with David for three days, feasting and drinking, for their brethren had prepared for them.
41 D’ailleurs, du plus loin d’Issacar, de Zabulon ou de Nephtali, on leur apportait des provisions sur des ânes, des chameaux, des mulets et des bœufs: de la farine, des gâteaux de figues, des raisins secs, du vin, de l’huile, des quantités de bœufs et de moutons, car la joie régnait en Israël.	41 Moreover, their neighbors from as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali came bringing food on asses, camels, mules, and oxen--provisions in great quantity of meal, pressed figs, raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep. For there was rejoicing in Israel.
