1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	1 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
2 “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and pour in drops toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the soil of Israel.	2 «Figlio dell’uomo, volgi la faccia verso meridione; parla alla regione australe e profetizza contro la selva del paese del sud.
3 And you shall say to the land of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, and I will cast my sword from its sheath, and I will slay the just and the impious among you.	3 Dirai alla selva del sud: “Ascolta la parola di Jahvè; così dice il Signore Jahvè: Sto per accendere in te un fuoco che divorerà ogni albero verde e ogni albero secco. La vampa fiammeggiante non si estinguerà e da sud a nord sarà bruciata ogni cosa.
4 But in as much as I have slain among you the just and the impious, for this reason my sword will go forth from its sheath against all flesh, from the south even to the north.	4 Ogni mortale vedrà che io, Jahvè, l’ho accesa; non si estinguerà”».
5 So may all flesh know that I, the Lord, have led my sword out of its sheath irrevocably.	5 Allora esclamai: «Ah, Signore Jahvè, essi vanno dicendo di me: “Non è altro che un narratore di fiabe!”»,
6 And as for you, son of man, groan in the breaking of your back, and groan in bitterness before them.	6 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
7 And when they will say to you, ‘Why are you groaning?’ you shall say: ‘On behalf of the report, For it is approaching. And every heart will waste away, and every hand will be broken, and every spirit will be weakened, and water will flow across every knee.’ Behold, it is approaching and it will happen, says the Lord God.”	7 «Figlio dell’uomo, volgi la faccia verso Gerusalemme; parla contro i santuari, profetizza contro il paese di Israele.
8 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	8 Riferirai, dunque, al paese di Israele: “Così dice Jahvè: Eccomi contro di te, mentre estraggo dal fodero la mia spada per sterminare, in te, giusti e malvagi.
9 “Son of man, prophesy, and you shall say: Thus says the Lord God: Speak: The sword! The sword has been sharpened and polished!	9 Appunto per far ciò la mia spada uscì dal fodero colpendo ogni mortale, da sud a nord.
10 It has been sharpened, so that it may cut down victims! It has been polished, so that it may shine! You are disturbing the scepter of my son. You have cut down every tree.	10 Tutti sapranno allora che io, Jahvè, ho tratto la mia spada dal fodero: più non vi rientrerà”.
11 And I have sent it to be made smooth, so that it may be handled. This sword has been sharpened, and it has been polished, so that it may be in the hand of the one who kills.	11 E tu, figlio dell’uomo, gemi. Gemi con i lombi spezzati e con amarezza alla loro presenza.
12 Cry out and wail, O son of man! For this has been done among my people, this is among all the leaders of Israel, who have fled. They have been handed over to the sword, with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,	12 Quando ti chiederanno: “Perché gemi?”, risponderai: “Per una notizia al cui giungere verranno meno i cuori, si fiaccheranno le braccia, gli animi si abbatteranno e le ginocchia si scioglieranno in acqua. Ecco, essa giunge; così sarà”» oracolo del Signore Jahvè.
13 for it has been tested. And this one, when he will have overthrown the scepter, will not be, says the Lord God.	13 Mi fu rivolta quindi la parola di Jahvè:
14 You therefore, O son of man, prophesy, and strike hand against hand, and let the sword be doubled, and let the sword of the slain be tripled. This is the sword of the great slaughter, which causes them to be utterly stupefied,	14 «Figlio dell’uomo, profetizza: Così dice il Signore Jahvè, riferisci: “La spada, la spada è aguzza e anche forbita;
15 and to waste away in heart, and which multiplies ruin. At all their gates, I have presented the consternation of the sword, which has been sharpened and polished so as to shine, which has been dressed for the slaughter.	15 resa aguzza per massacrare e forbita perché dia bagliori.
16 Be sharpened! Go to the right or to the left, whichever way is the desire of your face.	16 La si diede a forbire perché si prenda in mano; eccola aguzza, la spada, eccola forbita perché sia messa in mano allo sterminatore.
17 And then I will clap hand against hand, and I will fulfill my indignation. I, the Lord, have spoken.”	17 Grida, lamentati, figlio dell’uomo, perché essa grava sul mio popolo, su tutti i principi di Israele, che sono dati in balia della spada insieme con il mio popolo. Percuotiti, perciò, la coscia;
18 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	18 perché la prova è stata fatta, e sebbene uno scettro rimanga sprezzante come ciò non avverrà? Oracolo del Signore Jahvè.
19 “And as for you, son of man, set for yourself two ways, so that the sword of the king of Babylon may approach. Both shall go forth from one land. And with a hand, he will grasp and cast lots; he will cast at the head of the way of the community.	19 Tu, figlio dell’uomo, profetizza e batti le mani: la spada si raddoppi e si triplichi: è la spada del massacro; la possente spada del massacro che li circonda.
20 You shall appoint a way, so that the sword may approach to Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, or to Judah, into Jerusalem, greatly fortified.	20 Perché i cuori si struggano e si moltiplichino i caduti innanzi a tutte le loro porte, ho dato la spada del massacro. Essa è fatta per dare bagliori, forbita per il massacro.
21 For the king of Babylon stood at the fork, at the head of the two ways, seeking divination, shuffling arrows; he inquired of idols, and he consulted entrails.	21 Sii tagliente a destra e a sinistra, dovunque si rivolga la tua lama.
22 To his right was set the divination over Jerusalem, to place battering rams so as to open a mouth for the slaughter, to lift up the voice of wailing, to place battering rams opposite the gates, to cast up a rampart, to build fortifications.	22 Batterò le mani anchio e sazierò il mio furore. Io, Jahvè, ho parlato”».
23 And he shall be, in their eyes, like someone consulting an oracle in vain, or imitating the leisure of Sabbaths. But he will call to mind iniquities, so that it will be captured.	23 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
24 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Because you have been remembered in your iniquities, and you have revealed your betrayals, and your sins have appeared within all your plans, because, I say, you have been remembered, you will be captured by a hand.	24 «Ora tu, figlio dell’uomo, traccia due vie per il passaggio della spada del re di Babilonia. Proverranno ambedue da uno stesso paese. Incidi poi un segnale, incidilo all’inizio della via che conduce alla città
25 But as for you, O impious leader of Israel, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity:	25 Disegna la via perché la spada giunga a Rabbat dei figli di Ammon e in Giuda, contro Gerusalemme fortificata.
26 Thus says the Lord God: Take away the diadem, remove the crown. Is this not what has exalted the lowly one, and brought low the sublime one?	26 Infatti, il re di Babilonia sta fermo al bivio, dove hanno inizio le due strade, per praticare la divinazione: agita le frecce, interroga i terafim, osserva il fegato.
27 Iniquity, iniquity, iniquity I will make it. And this was not done until the one arrived to whom judgment belongs, and I will hand it over to him.	27 Nella destra sta il responso: Gerusalemme; perché apra la bocca per ordinare il massacro, levi la voce nel tumulto della battaglia, disponga gli arieti contro le porte, elevi terrapieni, costruisca torri mobili.
28 And as for you, son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God to the sons of Ammon, and to their disgrace, and you shall say: O sword, O sword, unsheathe yourself so as to slay; polish yourself so as to kill and to shine,	28 Ai loro occhi, però, questo sarà ritenuto un presagio mendace, perché hanno in loro favore giuramenti solenni! Egli, invece, richiama alla mente la loro iniquità per lasciarli prendere al laccio».
29 while they look upon you in vain, and they divine lies, so that you may be given over to the necks of the wounded impious, whose day has arrived that was predetermined at the time of iniquity.	29 Infatti, così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Poiché avete fatto ricordare la vostra perversità, svelandosi i vostri misfatti e manifestandosi i vostri peccati in tutte le vostre azioni, poiché vi siete fatti ricordare, sarete presi al laccio per i vostri misfatti.
30 Be returned to your sheath! I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your nativity.	30 Quanto a te, disonorato, perverso principe di Israele il cui tramonto è venuto al tempo della colpa finale,
31 And I will pour out upon you my indignation. In the fire of my fury, I will fan you, and I will give you over to the hands of cruel men, who have devised destruction.	31 così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Togli il turbante e leva il diadema. "Tutto cambierà: ciò che è piccolo sarà elevato e ciò che è alto sarà abbassato.
32 You will be food for the fire; your blood will be in the midst of the land; you will be delivered to oblivion. For I, the Lord, have spoken.”	32 Ridurrò il regno nella più disastrosa rovina, anch’esso ormai non è più, finché non venga chi ne ha il diritto e colui al quale lo rimetterò”».
	33 Ora, tu figlio dell’uomo, profetizza: «Così dice il Signore Jahvè contro i figli di Ammon e contro le loro ingiurie. Parla, dunque: “Una spada, una spada è sguainata per il massacro, forbita per la distruzione, perché dia bagliori,
	34 per porla — mentre per te si hanno false visioni, si dànno presagi mendaci — sui colli dei perversi disonorati la cui fine è venuta, al tempo della colpa finale.
	35 Riponi la spada nel fodero. Nello stesso luogo dove sei stata procreata, nel tuo paese d’origine, ti punirò.
	36 Riverserò su di te il mio sdegno, contro di te soffierò nel fuoco del mio furore, ti darò in balia di uomini brutali, artefici di distruzione.
	37 Diverrai preda del fuoco; il tuo sangue sarà sparso per il paese. Nessuno più ti ricorderà, perché io, Jahvè, ho parlato”».
